Awesome video man , I own almost all the dragon ball games including Japanese exclusives so I really agree with your vids here . I do want to add one small part . In a very rare occurrence , preorders of extreme butoden received a digital version of super butoden 2 with also an altered ost because of the Yamamoto scandal .
Thanks for tuning in! Really appreciate the support, now if only Bandai Namco would see it the same way lol. That's wild that they changed the OST! I get the reason, but it feels like overkill to retroactively change the soundtrack of a SNES port to 3DS but only on certain preorders.
Surprisingly great video from such a small and budding channel! I probably fit best into the first group of older fans but being from Canada our dragon ball viewing experience wasa bit trying. the channel we watched it on (YTV) was terrible at buying new episodes, so they would get to a certain episode and then just start over. I dont know how many times we got to the start of the cell games and a few episodes before gohan went ss2, blam, right back to radditz. I was almost finished highschool before i finally watched it all 😅. As for the games, in the early 2000s because of dragon ball, i got very into emulation so i could play the dragon ball fighting games from the super famicom, and i learned a lot about computers and emulation getting them to run, and installing crude english patches on games like legend of the super saiyan. Anyways great video! It was fun hearing someone's life experience with dragon ball from the beginning and even sharing some similar experiences, as i played all of the budokai games but completely passed over the tenkaichi games until muuuuch later. Also fusions is awesome! Im so glad i bought it early 😅. Keep up the great work and i hope your channel grows into something special!
Thanks for watching and the kind words, very proud of this one. Honestly, we were kind of in the same boat to a lesser degree when watching here in the US, with us having part of one dub then starting a new one, then it would reset to the beginning of Namek or sometimes the Saiyan saga. It definitely took a while for us to even get to Cell. Kudos on getting into the emulation game early on. I wasn't great with computers then so it would have been over my head on trying to figure it out. Agreed, it's nice to find that common ground and I've really enjoyed seeing other people share their experiences here in the comments, I've definitely learned some new things. Again, thank you for the encouragement and I'll do my best to keep at it, be sure to subscribe for the next one. p.s. Hold on to that copy of Fusions!
Agreed, it's a very solid JRPG, which may be the reason why it didn't get one. Turn-based JRPGs have always been a hard sell to some people, and I think especially to DB fans who prefer to experience the franchise via fighting games.
I’m so glad that I never sold any of my PS2 DBZ Gamez to GameStop like I did other games, especially Tenkaichi 3, the fact it goes for damn near $200 on eBay is crazy. If it wasn’t for the game still holding up, I’d definitely tried to sell mine on EBay considering I still have the Box and instruction manual. SN: Tenkaichi 2 to me is better than 3. Yeah 3 had the larger roster, faster gameplay and added the Blast combos (the best edition imo) but besides that was kinda a step back with the story mode (although I did like the dialogue during the battles), and the OST wasn’t as great as BT2. I do hope Sparking Zero takes the story mode and OST from 2 and the combos, in game dialogue from BT3
Kudos to keeping your copy of Tenkaichi 3! I'm definitely in the same boat, happy to have my collection in one piece. I'm really sentimental when it comes to stuff like that and never felt the need to sell it just because I was "done with it". My dad's a big nerd/collector too and so growing up he always encouraged me to keep my stuff pristine. Luckily, I've never been in a position where I've needed to sell any of it for survival though. I would definitely suggest picking up a copy of DB Fusions, if you don't have it already, because it's definitely one of those underrated gems that I can see once it gets traction will skyrocket in price (especially with the e-shop closed and a sequel nowhere in site). As for the Tenkaichi games, from what I've heard that's the general consensus re:2 having the better gameplay while 3 is the bigger game. I only have 1 & 2, since I didn't have them originally and they're the ones that I was willing to spend money on to give the series a second chance. Wish I could try BT3 just for comparison, but knowing the consensus helped me settle for just getting BT2. Really hoping Sparking Zero doubles down on the "What if?" stuff because that to me has always been the most engaging aspect of the story parts in the games.
@@arcadealacarte yeah me and my brother used to sell games we were done with to GameStop, we once sold them like 10+games and only got $10 back 😂 but we never gave any of our DB games and yeah I’ve heard Fusions is a good game but haven’t had the chance to play it, funny enough, Ultimate Tenkaichi made me take a break from DB game up until the lockdown because of how disappointing it was so I missed out on the in between games up til Kakarot released. Now I collect anything Dragon Ball from the games, mangas, statues, the old Super Battle Collection Figures, and the SH Figuarts line which is probably the most expensive to collect out of all the others 😂
@@lucidmind9676 I don't blame you for taking a break after Ultimate Tenkaichi, played it only a handful of times with no desire to return. Glad you're back to collecting! Xenoverse 1&2, while not perfect, are definitely worth checking out too. Obviously same goes for FighterZ. I try to stay away from collecting figures/statues because it's a slippery slope and I won't get much use out of them. However, I am a sucker for getting my hands on cards from the Score DBZ TCG from back in the day. Thanks for checking out the video! Hope you subscribe and tune in for this month's video.
@@arcadealacarte Just subscribed 😌 I lied, Ultimate Tenkaichi is the only DBZ game I sold… nvm I actually just gave it away to a classmate for free 😂 and yeah I started playing Xenoverse 2 during the lockdown because of it being on sale during that time and while I do like it, the only thing that disappointed me which is a nitpick is not being able to transform into the Super forms like SSG and SSB but thankfully Sparking Zero is finally gonna have that feature. Yeah collecting figures is definitely a slippery slope, I took a break from them once I realized Tamashi was rereleasing figures years later after people already spent $100+ with scalper price. My most expensive, the original SSG Goku figure, literally after i bought it off Mercari, later that night is when they revealed the 2021 Event Exclusive version and i was pissed 😂 so I definitely recommend to stay away from figure collecting at least when it comes to the Figuarts line but the Banpresto statues are nice and a mostly cheap price.
Thanks for subscribing! Ya know what, if Ultimate Tenkaichi is the ONE you sold/gave away. I think that's perfectly acceptable lol. Actually, you can transform into SSG and SSB, they take some work to get to and possibly maybe DLC exclusive (don't quote me on that). That said, there are plenty of guides to show how to attain these forms. Of course, this is only for the CAC, if we're talking about the actual DB characters then you may be correct. That figure debacle sounds like it was an expensive lesson to learn. I'll take your warning to heart haha.
Fusions 2 is the dream! It's very replayable, but I wish it would allow for multiple save files so you don't have to erase all of your previous hard work. Hope your brother enjoys it too!
@@arcadealacarte I might start praying just to get a Fusions 2 😂 but yeah i get around that save file crap now with checkpoint on my hacked 3ds. Here's to hoping, if they do bring it back, that they keep the chibi styling
@@SeodoroI'll join you in that prayer lol. I'm too scared to mess with my 3DS but that's awesome that you have work around. I hope they keep the chibi art style too, but would be ok with it changing. While I think it really works for the game, because of it's more light hearted tone, I do think it turned off a lot of people from even trying it (lame I know). So if they changed it an attempt to boost sales I'm not opposed, though I don't think they should have to in the first place.
I started watching DBZ the year Toonami was re-airing the show uncut. I'm having trouble figuring out what year that was, but I'm guessing it was around 2005. I played the games before I ever got to watch the anime.
Hey you're definitely not alone, I know a few people in that boat. Especially in regard to the first Budokai game. What was your first DB game? Also, you mentioned watching it uncut, do you recall if you were watching it on Midnight Run or not? I don't recall them airing the episodes uncut during the day, at least not initially because of standards and practices, but maybe that changed by 2005.
@@arcadealacarte The uncut version aired during the evening. Not late night, but more like 7-8 pm when Toonami moved to Saturday nights. I found one of the DVDs based on this uncut re-airing and is listed as a 2005 release. The DVD refers to it as The Ultimate Uncut Edition. You can see what I'm talking about by searching this. Plus, the DVD title I found is Into The Wild. I mentioned this uncut re-airing because it fits into a time or generation not mentioned in the video. I knew of DBZ as a little kid but didn't consume the show until I was nearly a teen. Technically the first DB games I played were Taiketsu and one of the Legacy of Gokus for the GBA. Or was it the first Budokai? I can't be too sure. Either way, these three were my first DBZ games.
Ah I see, that's definitely after the time I had stopped watching (before rewatching with Kai), thanks for informing me. I'd consider this small subset probably fits into the tail end of the second generation or as like an addition. Either way it's interesting to find out about. Also, 2/3 of those are really good, especially for first DB games. Taiketsu is a bit of an outlier, but if you enjoyed your time with it that's all that matters. Thanks for watching!
@@arcadealacarte I was just a kid when I would play Taiketsu and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Who knows what I'd think of it now. I wouldn't care to play most games without another human anyway. But yeah, I don't know how many people first watched DBZ by way of the uncut re-airing in 2005 but hey, I did. Just wanted to put it out there and remind the world of this period. Or perhaps to let them know it existed.
Agreed, although I'm not really an MMO person, its world and mechanics sound so interesting that I'd love to give it a try. At this rate though a sequel series seems unlikely, considering Xenoverse 2's level of support and XV3 nowhere in sight. For the time being it's the flagship for that "universe", not to mention parts of XV2 function somewhat similarly to an MMO (i.e. raids and quests). Fingers crossed though.
The new tracks have their own charm but it's definitely one of those "when you've heard it one way it's hard to hear it another way" situations. Similar to when the Scrubs soundtrack got replaced when it got put on streaming services.
This new wave of game preservation bullshit is nonsense. People have been working on emulation for decades and almost any game you can think of is available in rom form online. What people are really begging for is another chance to consume again on another format that will probably be obselete in the future yet again. People HAVE preserved these games. Dont act like that isnt true just cause you wanna be charged money for them
I have to respectfully disagree. First, not everyone has access to emulation, whether it be tech savvy or resources (i.e. not having a PC to run an emulator). I myself have issues with PS2 emulation. This aside, it's about official support from the publisher, not the fact the games have never been preserved. I hear what you're saying about an inevitable obsoletion, but the point is, just like movies, music, books, these games should be easily accessible to everyone, and not require consumers to have to find workarounds. Thank you for checking out the video, even if you don't agree with the message, I'm sorry we just don't see eye to eye on this.
Nice work but really, can you US fans stop being so American-centric ? So annoying. I mean, Dragon Ball had a entire life before it aired in the US in the 2000s. Games like Super Butoden series on Super Famicom/SNES, Buyuu Retsuden on Sega Genesis, or even the OG Dragon Ball game on NES (and i don't talk about the numerous RPG entries or the first CD based DBZ Game on PC Engine that came only in Japan). I know these games weren't released in the US, but they EXIST. They're accessible via emulation and they're involved in this video game preservation problem.
I hear you but it's because I didn't grow up with the games you mentioned being readily available, that's why they're not mentioned. I made it a point in the video (6:57-7:50) that I can only go off what I know and didn't want to speak for other cultures. Dragon Ball fandom isn't a monolith, and I think people from those areas should share their experiences themselves not have an American say it for them. I wouldn't feel comfortable explaining what games were important to the Japanese or European fans because I honestly don't know and it's not my place. Additionally, if I tried to include every region this video it either would have never gotten done or been like 10 hours long. I appreciate you watching though.
