I detasseled corn back in high school in summer of 1981 ...it was rough the leaves would cut your legs and arms if you didn’t wear the right clothes. I did it in Indiana and it was the summer before I graduate in 1982 the first day I got a bad sunburn, but I put lot of lotion and SUNBLOCK on and went back the next day with long pants and long sleeve shirt and I managed to make it through the whole summer. Meet a lot of great people and made extra money for school...
I detasseled in the 90s for a bit, it sucked but everyone here did at one point or another. I actually got left behind once :D This was before cellphones and I was just standing on the side of the road like "Now what?" Luckily they realized and came back for me pretty quickly.
Nice job on the video. Our friend grew up detasseling (just 3 summers) and we NYers had no idea what she's talking about...and no kidding, she has that same shirt!
I am in Southeast Texas growing sweet corn for the first time. I have 4 out of 5 rows growing. Still in the small stage. Will like to know better how to tell the difference between Male and Female so when the time comes to detasseling.
Like the video today was my first day
