Nicely done, Ian. I have this lens and it's surprisingly "arty" and versatile. The 6.3 aperture is somewhat problematic for iso levels but it's really handy for still life and general shooting, not just sporting use.

Love the lens. Wonderful information. A lot of folks want to debate camera gear. I like what you said. If you don't like Olympus.....don't buy it! Well said. All the best.

1st video (your moon shot) I've seen with this lens. I wonder what an object would look like zoomed in from 600 feet away.

Hi Ian just come across this as I've just bought one and agree it’s a superb lens and great review by the way. However, I do have a little rotational play in the lens mount. Does yours suffer from this? Both on my EMII and OM-1

Thank you. My 300mm f4 was stolen about a year ago. Waiting to replace it with either this lens or perhaps the coming equivalent Pro.

That sucks! The pro lens will be a brilliant lens I am sure but I image the price will be "brilliantly" high as well lol.

@@ianhrp I think around $4m. Others have speculated $6 to $7m. Regardless, pricey would be an understatement!

The 75-300mm has not let me down but I agree is not excellent, it does require edits and etc... is the quality much better on this one? I am not sure if it might be better to just buy a used 300mm F4.

I just fitted the dress ring from my 300mm f4 pro (when not using tripod ring) onto my 100-400 Olympus lens. Nice! I was trying to find the dress ring for the 100-400, but it does not exist.

Use focus peaking on the moon.

I'm not going to carry a tripod
Ill pass and keep my g9 100-400mm which has sinc IS

JIP isn’t buying Olympus Imaging. Olympus is paying JIP to take the losses and salvage what is possible from a market shrunk 90%.

Sorry, but the leading pictures were very soft and not useable.
