It's been mild over the last couple of winter's, gives you a false seens of security. In fairness we were due a nasty one. I do have plenty of back plants for any that don't make it.👍
Sorry to see all this damage. I can only recommend you to protect your palms properly. There are premium palm protection systems that would have prevented all of this damage. I'm in Bavaria and even though this is a mild winter I usually start protecting my palms at the end of december. It might not be necesarry but better safe than sorry. Temperatures dropped to -15 Celsius for 5 days in a row or something and my palms didn't take any damage at all. I don't know whether palm protection systems are sold in the UK but they are sold in Germany and they never disappoint. Combined with some heating cable or fan heaters even the most exotic palms won't take damage.
@@jimspalmsuk5098 I know, the maritime climate indeed helps. I'll try to post a link to one of those systems. I'm not sure if youtube allows posting links.
i feel your pain...my washingtonias have suffered big time and im hoping they recover....but were now in yet another bad frost so im thinking this will finish them...hopefully not...my fault for not protecting them, ive got 46 new palm seeds on the go and if all goes well i wont make the same mistake again..good luck
@@jimspalmsuk5098 I bloomin hope so lol...my remaining palms don't look great (brown dead leaves just like yours) but I'm not worried about them...the remaining leaves are solid and won't pull out and still look green at the base...I'm more disappointed about the Washingtonia's that I grew from seed...they were around a year old and a foot high but got frost damage...the spears pulled on all of them😢...I've treated them with nitrogen peroxide and put them under shelter so I'm hoping they'll come back...if not lesson learnt...roll on summer 😊
Unfortunately my 6ft potted phoenix canarias is toast 😕 😫 took -9 a couple of days during the freeze on West Coast of Scotland. Hopefully the Washies will pull through, got them in cages packed with straw & a waterproof cover over the top still got green at base of the spears so fingers crossed 🤞
Great video. Love your large canary date palm. I hope everything pulls through
Me to 👍
Yeah you guys have had a tough go this winter and all in all doesn't look too bad.

I haven't seen or heard of palm protection systems, might look in to that. But in general we don't get that cold where I am 👍

Washingtonia always take damage but seem to pull through. It's been a tough winter so far, let's hope for an early string. 🤞

@@billybodgit6281 we have to try, it's a learning curve for all of us .
My washingtonias have suffered a bad hit, only my trachycarpus's have come through unscathed
@@slimytoad1447 same...I'm hoping my washy,s will come back 🙏
Sometimes we just have to many to protect. I'm in the same boat,An then when it's so cold nothing helps
Similar experience with my butia odoratas, damage free unprotected. Even the 5 year old seedling is unburnt outside next to the house
Yes they seem pretty tough, more than people give them credit. Very good looking palms, one of my favourites 👍

Keep me updated on the washingtonia, be interesting to see how they do. Sorry to hear about the cidp.😔
@@jimspalmsuk5098 cheers mate will do 👍
My butia eriospatha and odorata both spear, pulled
My 2 canariensis, one big one small both spear-pulled,dead i presume
Not necessarily, my big cidp spear pulled in 2018 and then doubled in size the summer after 🤞
@@jimspalmsuk5098 many thanks Jim for giving me hope
