In Gallo-Roman religion, Epona was a protector of horses, donkeys, and mules. She was particularly a goddess of fertility, as shown by her attributes of a patera, cornucopia, ears of grain and the presence of foals in some sculptures. She and her horses might also have been leaders of the soul in the after-life ride, this is also where Link's horses name is derived from.
I sang this song to my goddaughter to put her to sleep. Instead of her falling asleep she just looked at me and grinned all big with the cutest baby smile i've ever seen :D (btw, she's only 5 months old)
i love everything about this band. All are amazing musicians and anna nd chirgel are my favourite metal singers. Also the fact that not only do they sing about the ancient europeans but the fact they have a solid knowledge of it. Also the fact that they focus on more than the vikings is really refreshing
My partner recommended this to me and after listening to some of your songs and reading the stories behind them, its easy to say you guys are one of my favourites. As if it isn't metal enough to add strings and all, well, you sing in an old, barely-known language. So cool! As a fellow musician I can appreciate the work that goes into writing music, and being able to give it that something special is awesome. I'd love to do a vocal cover of A Rose for Epona for my music diploma (with full credit to you guys of course). I know its a big ask, but there wouldn't happen to be an instrumental version of the song somewhere? (or perhaps a fan might be able to recommend). The guitar is do-able for me but then we'd miss all the goodness of the other instrumentation, which is the last thing I want to do! Eluveitie you guys rock!
yes Link's horse's name is Epona. but in this song Epona is a Helveitian Goddess who watched over the men and the Calvary. during this time in the album Helveitos, the Helveitians have been fighting the roman empire and have now left their homes to settle east, the trek was horrendous. seeing that their was no hope, this Helveitian woman turns to her Goddess Epona, and accusses her for forsaking her and her people. Its quite emotional when you understand it.

Epona was the gaulish goddess of horses, she was a very popular diety and one of the few ones that gained worship from the roman conquerors (specially by the cavalry and horse breeders), she even had an oficial worship day at Rome (18 of december)
the camera shots on this are absolutely beautiful. innovative, from a cinematographers point of view. loved that there was alot of shots of sime and ivo. they are basically never included in the videos, so that was cool. also, there was a big focus on pade for once, considering he bascially carries the best parts of the songs alot of the time, im surprised it doesnt happen more often
