There is a sense of strategy to it. You know it's going to be harder and you dont want to waste time. On the short lived US version: the very first episode the contestant didnt even go to M, she ended up making a vertical line and won a trip. Had she tried to make a line through the M she could have won a speedboat (as I recall) but she said after her strategy was simply she was more interested in the trip. But given the much bigger difference here in that you need the M square, you should at least try it. Heidi I think panicked, once she got M, the next move should have been to go to K, L, N or O I think. She wasnt going to get C or H so the vertical line through the center was essentially "blocked". Either that or go for a diagonal.
Look at Roy Walker dance to that music, What a guy!
