I tend to focus on form when tired on a run. Breathing, arm swing, and Strides.

Forward lean and head up , fix your gaze on the horizon and swing your elbows back with relaxed shoulders, but forward lean from the ankles is key . Thanks coach great video and great training plans 👍🏼

Ben I just love your positive approach to your videos. Always a smile. Every run I am always focusing on form. I do a form check: head, shoulders, arm swing, hips, stride, cadence, foot landing, toe off, ankles and so on, repeat. Keeping good form doesn't come naturally for me but I am getting more consistent. Sometimes my head is in circles but in all of that I just look around and enjoy the run.
Thanks for the forward lean exercise. Finally a simple exercise to try to make this happen. I can't run or even walk barefoot due to a big toe fusion but I will try out doing some strides. Again very practical advise from you about how to make these happen. Thanks Ben and good luck with London. 👍

I find doing negative split runs - even on easy runs - will train yourself to maintain stronger form as each miles ticks by.

I’ve been running for 10yrs now and completed the Centurion 100 SDW this June. Wanted to get back to road running as had a marathon in September so my form was still up on the trails. Found the tip on Cadence using the metronome on the Fenix6 has massively helped my mid foot strike. I learnt the rhythm and counted 1 to 6 repeatedly for the duration of the marathon and got a PB out of it. Still a way to go before I hit the magic 180 as currently at 170 but will get there.
    Great vids Ben !

Bare foot running helped me correct my landing and increase cadance. Doing it on grass is one way, but what I did was use a treadmill during the winter months to do hundreds of miles barefoot (actually with old pairs of socks). Like Ben said, start gradually as the muscles invovleved need to get stronger first.

Great tips - barefoot running in particular… when I started doing it three years ago I was very sceptical but it has really helped. Gone from about ten reps of 20” walking and 2’ walking to the inverse now, once a week - you need to build it up very slowly to protect the calves 😉
And a shout out for Skinners socks - excellent for ‘barefoot’ running now it’s getting colder!

This week’s videos are tailored to me. I ran a marathon last Sunday, so I’m in recovery mode now. I have seen some footage of me on the marathon and my form looked very bad, like I was shot in both legs. I decided to work on my form, this video was very helpful. I think lot of us would ask for an extended version!

Great tips! At the start of the pandemic I took a deep dive into RUclips, and changed from a heel striking over strider to a forefoot runner. Unfortunate my pace is much slower and I have calf and Achilles tightness, but my knees feel much better.

I read Chi Running and The Lost Art of Running and learn loads. From Chi Running I've added some loosening up drills into my warm-up which I do directly after the Ben Parke's follow along warm up. They help loosen the joints a bit although I'm not sure what impact they've had. From Lost Art of Running I learnt about centre line, tripod and the fascia/elastic system. I've found it hard to implement but definitely over the last year I feel my technique has improved. I used to struggle with cadence as well but now run steady at 170 ish with a shorter stride length. In short, two very good books!

I use my easy runs to work on form such as picking up my heels nearer to my bottom and using my arms straight rather than letting them cross and I always run pretty much at 180 steps per min except for fast intervals.

Hi Ben, well I've finally caught up. I started watching your youtube videos about 6 months ago. After watching the first (NDW100) I decided to start at the beginning and watch them all in order. Wow, what a few years you've had. I've loved them all, especially the trail ultra ones. I always like Sarah's random cameo's, especially when you can tell she's totally not bothered. It's quite pertinent that strides came up in this one. How could I not know the benefits of strides after how many times you mention it. Huge qudos for your honest output on mental health. I'm recoving from catching covid, even though I've been double jabbed, but can't wait to get back out there and carry on doing the sessions. Wishing you the very best for London Ben and really excited to now follow along in real time. Thanks again for all the great content and looking forward to see where you're running takes you next. Give KiKi a cuddle from me. Sam

A great place for barefoot running is the infield of a running track, which for me is the artificial turf of an (American) football field. It's about 5 rectangular laps to a mile, and I never have to worry about anything hurting my feet.

Heel striking isn't a problem and how we strike the ground is down to each individual biomechanics. Some of the best runners in the world heel strike ( Brigid Kosgei ). What's important is where the foot lands ( right underneath one's hips ) and not what part of the foot hits the ground first. Landing forefoot first way too far up front isn't good for example.......

When I was in primary school (1959), by the Thames in Battersea, we were warned about the dreadful infections you could get from the foreshore at low tide, and the amount of hidden sharp objects in the sand. Nevertheless we kids always ignored that, but I remember someone cut up their foot quite badly running down there. Gave me quite a shock to see you running on ‘the beach’. Perhaps it has been cleaned up meanwhile.

    @Ben Parkes:
You leaned from the ankles and the immediately bent at the hip in your first step. I don't think forward leaning is a good advise. It is more about keep your pelvis neutral so you distribute the weight and run tall. Everything else will adjust to your specific and individual biomechanics.

I should avoid the forward lean scared gravity will pull my fart ass to much and i will reach light speed (alright I'll try it)
    2. 🐻 Foot running , seems dangerous... (Here's a tip stop using shoes in your homes) (not using shoes for years still heel striker)
    3. Ever been running on the road and a truck 🚛 passed you? The backlash wind 🌬️ you get? That's what happens when this fat bastard (me) strides past you!!! (I love strides!! So does my loaner dog !! Awesome vid Ben hope you enjoyed my comment!!
