  • On a tram ride through Zurich, Paavo Järvi and the British pianist, organist and conductor Wayne Marshall talk about George Gershwin and the cultural consequences of Brexit, about English cuisine and English titles. And then there's this question: why are the customs authorities looking for explosives in our music director's luggage?

What a treat to see Wayne Marshall on your tram ride this time! And yes, 4 yrs to the day since Brexit things are not getting any better, sadly 😢 Thank you for making me smile though 😊

When I lived in San Francisco, I went to a performance by Wayne at the SF Davies Symphony Hall. A very memorable evening! And Paavo is great, this is such a cool series (met him yesterday at the "Saisongespräch" at the Tonhalle), can't wait for the continuation of his Mahler and Bruckner cycles.

    Paavo, you blow me away!
At your age and all you have achieved, you still have a wonderful childlike enthusiasm for everything musical.
We are lucky to have you...Thanks 👍

Thank you Paavo for another absolutely brilliant video! I am English, and I have to say that I agree with what was said regarding Brexit.
I am not surprised that Wayne at the end said,' This is the first time I have been interviewed on a tram'. That is probably true of all your guests in this series. But in Switzerland everybody using public transport is part of the cultural identity of the country.

Paavo Järvi... we DO have the Royal Albert Hall in London which has a world class organ! Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Royal Festival Hall... we are not exactly bereft - plus we have Royal Opera House...
