All these guys sound fantastic, but that bass is SUPERB.
Nigh uncatchable
john bromley. legend.
Og bromley
@Papa Legba his son's voice is even deeper, you can find the Bromley's singing Prickle Holly Bush here on RUclips.
@@GardensAndGamesit really isnt
The bass guy is gonna rupture my organs with that voice
John looking at his gut & laughing during the "fit and lean" line is *chef's kiss*
Hahaha... most awesome.
John... you don't miss a beat.
"John... you don't miss a beat."
BTW...pun fully intended.
For anyone else trying to learn these wonderful lyrics:
I come from the mud and the wind and the wet
From as far to the west as a man can get
And I worked those waters for all my years
And I got my share of triumph and tears
Ah, the ocean’s the source of my hopes and fears
Keep an eye on the jigger pole, hand on the gaff
And a smiley on the line always brought a laugh
She’s the pride of the coast, biggest of the springs
We would carry her home past Edward King
Unloading at the packers’ and the money would ring
I’m Bamfield’s John Vanden
And you might slip and stumble on the rocks at the shore
And exult in the blast of the mighty wake’s roar
But when you stand humbled by the ocean’s door
Then you’ll understand just who I am
Bamfield’s Johnnie Vanden
Fair weather is the mask that the devil dons
A disguise for the tempest that’s coming on
But looking toward the west, I can always tell
By the tint of the sky and the strength of the swell
Who’s winning today-is it heaven or hell?
And when unseen arms threw thundering gales
We risked our souls on that telegraph trail
When the listing wrecks needed us the most
We slipped past death on the graveyard coast
But the ocean remembers, so we never did boast
I’m Bamfield’s John Vanden
And you might slip and stumble on the rocks at the shore
And exult in the blast of the mighty wake’s roar
But when you stand humbled by the ocean’s door
Then you’ll understand just who I am
Bamfield’s Johnnie Vanden
I rolled and trolled and my hands were worn
In God’s vindictive southeast storm
Heard the hull of the ship as it ripped and groaned
But there is one thrill I've never known
'T is, the love of a woman I could call my own
So your questions of romance don’t ask me
I’m the man who wed the Pacific sea
Tempestuous though she may have been
A more faithful two you never seen
She’s kept me wise and fit and lean
I’m Bamfield’s John Vanden
And you might slip and stumble on the rocks at the shore
And exult in the blast of the mighty wake’s roar
But when you stand humbled by the ocean’s door
Then you’ll understand just who I am
Bamfield’s Johnnie Vanden

@@jonw9119 I caught them on facebook. Neil got right back with me.
Stunning lyrics.
Absolutely wonderful!
Criminally under viewed.
Rest in peace Joe Stead
aye.
John's voice is beyond perfect.
This has got to be the 20th time I’ve come back to this video just to listen
Mastery. Beauty. Come to the US Midwest and sing! We’ll host you. Old mining and shipping towns here. More videos, keep going, good men, godspeed!
Saw them live at one of my local pubs yesterday.
It was brilliant singing and drinking with them.
Absolutely love this
Gareth has such a unique voice
The mix of Gareth and Neil is beautiful
John's bass is another level of singing.
Steve's pure tone adds an amazing sound .
Fantastic
Very very good. I listen to this a lot.
I live just south of Bamfield. Hearing this video made my heart soar
I wish more men in my generation shared a love and appreciation for this music, I would greatly love to sing these songs and pass them on myself one day.
I love the sound these guys put together, and while Gareth's high notes really set it off, it'd all be nothing without John "Sorry I woke you, Poseidon" Bromley
The Baritone could break concrete... Fantastic!
Guys...this is beyond great. More please.
I would love to hear what you could do with "Barrett's Privateers" around that table.
BTW... if you do consider Barrett's, here's a good three part.

Thanks.
Love this vocal group, or should I say shantymen, they're as tight as it gets. One would be so lucky to join, or even personally witness a group as clean as this. Well done.
I love this, seen it 100 times, just noticed Morph 0:08.
Love the joy the men get from singing this song. Beautiful voices
It's already been said, but IT'S ALL ABOUT DAT BASS....
This rendition is bloody amazing. Kimbers Men are loud in our home. Respect to John's family and legacy.
Of all the songs I've seen and heard you guys sing, I think that this is maybe the best. A sound and vibe to aspire to. Just brilliant. 👍 😊
Is that a touch of the fifth note that creeps in a few times? Just gorgeous harmonies.
More of this please =)
Gys ihr seid der absolute Hammer LG Frank ein Gesangs Freund aus Norddeutschland
This is sensational 👏 I've been listening to pick out the vocal lines and they swap so well. A real joy.
Beautiful. Love the emotion of the guy in the cap. Amazing harmony. Thank you from a soul in need.
Absolutely magnificent. The blend of the voices is a joy to listen to.
So great. Just so well done.
It's not an Irish song, but today on Saint Patrick's day I am listening to many songs from the Isles (while sitting in the Colonies) and I very much appreciate the art of 'a cappella' singing. I'm not totally sure where the heart of my vocal range is and singing along with you all makes me want to seek out a voice coach and delve further into the art! Sainte and cheers!
I can't get enough of this song in self isolation. Thank You from Germany....
All the very best shanty singers to EVER DO IT
Grew up on the 'Lakes in Michigan, the Port City. This song makes me long for the waves and the shore once again.
This is so, so beautiful...
I keep coming back to this one, but I suppose there are worse things to be addicted to
@@skirmish23 You're not alone mate, this is my go-to and has been for a while now.
@@jackgrieveson225 Can't get enough of it. Also love this one, it's in Catalan, and very beautiful: ruclips.net/video/TY6Py3hJP-0/видео.html

Wonder no more! :-)
Just mighty
Need to get a version of this on Apple Music, gutted it’s not on there
John Bromley do more!!! Please I just learned who you are from a 9 year old video please do more!
I wanna hear that guy in the white longsleeve shirt be the lead in the song "Leave her Johnny"
He does lead 'Leave her Johnny' twelve minutes into this video but, it's not Caraway quality, it was just a video taken by our friend Rob, a former deckhand on the brig, Stavros S Niarcos.

It’s hard to listen to them after hearing how they treated Joe
Sozzer… but you know nowt. You weren’t there.. you’ve only read the untrue and spiteful message on joes pages that he wrote when HE left the band… you have never heard any remaining member of KM say a bad word about Joe ever- not once.
If you’re ever lucky enough to be in the band’s company and share some time with us, you might find the courage to ask what did occur there, but we might take a look at you and think ‘hmmmm, heres someone with a weighted and inflated opinion who knows nowt’ and just say Foxtrot Oscar to yer..
Gaz.
