LORE - Silent Hill Lore in a Minute!
Silent Hill, a quaint little town in Maine, New England, was a scenic resort area until people started disappearing or dying in the lake nearby. Then the people responsible for promoting the town as a family-friendly tourist destination turned up dead. The townsfolk believed that these deaths were tied to a doomsday cult known as The Order, who believed bringing about the apocalypse was their ticket to Paradise and a more profitable tourism department.
The priestess of The Order, Dahlia Gillespie, birthed a daughter with paranormal powers. Believing her daugther, Alessa, to be linked to The Order's god, she decided the best way to bring her god to Silent Hill was to impregnate her 7-year old by ritual of fire. Dahlia set fire to their home with Alessa trapped inside. Alessa survived but the seed had been planted - Dahlia would soon be a grandmother.
The Order nursed her wounds but Alessa refused to deliver their god. Using her paranormal powers, she split her soul in two, one half remaining with her body and the other inexplicably appearing in the form of a precious newborn. Found and adopted by Harry Mason and his wife, they named her Cheryl. Harry and Cheryl eventually return to Silent Hill, and upon their arrival, Cheryl triggers Alessa's reality-bending powers, shrouding Silent Hill in a mysterious fog. After swerving to avoid a young girl in the road, Harry crashes his car and is knocked unconscious. Harry wakes up to find Cheryl missing and is forced to venture into Silent Hill to search for his daughter.
Have fun!

Hey guys, I'm the artist for Lore. In response to comments about the fire: The summoning ritual Dahlia was attempting to perform involved fire, which got out of control and burned the house and Alessa. (That comes from a SH book Konami published in 1999--look up "Silent Hill Koshiki Guidebook" for more.) The exploding boiler story is simply a cover-up, probably given to the authorities by Dahlia or another member of the Order. How the flamethrower was involved is for you to decide.
Have fun!
I loved it good job
I loved it good job
i know that Silent Hill Mythology is "murky" to say the least but Alyssa's house burning down was likely the result of a boiler-exploding from Alyssa's psychic powers lashing out when she panicked during the impregnation ritual. When it is claimed in later games that Dahlia offered up her daughter as a sacrifice, it is likely that that is a sacrifice of her spirit and not of her body. Clearly they tried to keep her alive after being burned nearly to death; as such, it stands to reason they did not want her dead and it seems odd that to that end, they would burn her so.
Also Silent Hill is build on Indian Burial grounds if I recall. This introduces the supernatural spiritual attributes of Silent Hill. Alyssa is psychic and amplifies the "spiritual power" that exists in Silent Hill thus projecting the "Other World" unto the town as she is being tormented by that same spiritual presence. I don't think the fog has anything to do with Alyssa or her other half, Cheryl. Alyssa simply is a tormented soul who is unwittingly projecting her nightmare unto the town. This creates the realm known as the "Other World".
James Sutherland is also a tormented soul in his own rite. His nightmare was a bit more personal as it manifests in the shape of pyramid head and being forced to watch Maria get killed repeated as a form of self-torment. It's logical to conclude that all the monsters he encountered are also manifestations of his and the other characters' -that he was with at the time- minds; thus demonstrating that Alyssa is not the only one who can project a demonic reality into the world with this "spiritual power".
Considering the disturbing and violent nature of the manifestations and the reincarnates of the cult's "god" that are produced (Baphomet in the first game and some twisted image of Alyssa in the third), one would conclude that the spiritual power and presence in Silent Hill are demonic. This is also demonstrated in Silent Hill 2 by the little girl- whose name I can not remember- who is likely representative of an pure soul-unfettered by guilt and torment - never actually encounters or is targeted by any monsters on her own.
The only other thing I would mention is that in Silent Hill 3 when "the cult" was given the name The Order, it is likely that was a liberty taken in translation that was latter ret-conned into the series by other developers long after Team Silent had disbanded. It's not a bad name though.
Conclusion: Alyssa was not burned on purpose and those people in the cult are crazy to want to worship a demon they call "god".
You must have watched TRSHE.
***** Just because they're dicks doesn't invalidate their evidence.
***** Never called them dicks or invalidated their evidence. This was probably one of the longer posts about SH's story. It's like he listened to all of TP's videos on SH1 and copied what they said in his own words.
*****
Oh, I only said that because people usually just brush off anything from TP because of their attitude. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
***** I thought I made it seem like I was calling them dicks is all. I don't think of them as dicks, I think of them as condescending. So really I misunderstood you.
Am I only one that noticed that those two persons at 0:15 are Alexander and Daniel from Amnesia The Dark Descent?
LOL Now that you mention it
NOPE. And I was about to say the same thing :D
HollowedHero yeah
I literally just died because I recognised them immediately, I had JUST watched the Amnesia lore video lmao!
No, I was the only one who noticed that
The fire in the Gillespie house wasn't on purpose, it was Alessa's heightened stress level from a separate ritual taking place. Her powers mixed with her heightened stress and caused the boiler to explode by accident. There's an article in the clipped newspaper in the first game that proves this, but it's only found in the European and Japanese versions of the game. The EU and JA versions were made after the US version, so either they didn't have to time to originally include it, or they forgot and added it in afterwards. If you only have the US version (as I do), there's no way to know unless you find the info about the other versions. For over 10 years I wondered what it was until a few years ago when I found it.
Edit: The Koshiki guidebook was made by Konami themselves but did not involve the original writers of the story of Silent Hill and should not be taken as lore explanation. Some of the original writers of Silent Hill were even asked what the original intent was, either boiler explosion or ritual, and they simply respond “boiler explosion” so the idea that the boiler explosion was a coverup simply isn’t true. If Konami disagrees with the original writers, it means Konami is wrong.
This also worries me about the Silent Hill media being released now in 2023-2024, but I still stand by this comment I made 9 years ago. Without Hiroyuki Owaku and Keiichiro Toyama, Konami can not be trusted to understand Silent Hill and all of their SH media that has been released since after SH4 can only really be taken as fan fiction, which includes the movies, comics, every game starting with Origins and afterwards, and these new games being made now.
I know a lot of people rare going to ignore me on this and argue against it, but I would just say that they are in denial and don’t want to let go of Silent Hill, which I didn’t want to either, but I only consider SH 1-4 to be the only real SH media, and everything else is interesting at most (I genuinely enjoy Origins but it’s not a real SH game), and simply trash at worst (Book of Memories never should have existed).
I always figured they made it look accidental to get away with crippling Alessa, ensuring she couldn't escape. After all they had constantly abused her before, which one of her teachers noticed and had considered coming forward to the authorities with.
That’s actually just a theory and the only thing that supports it is that the fire might have happened in the basement which led the fire department to believe it was the boiler, when in actuality, Dahlia performed the ritual on Alessa in the basement (rather than in the second floor like Origins portrayed it)
Wait a minute!!!!!!!!!!! Maine? This takes place in Maine? Have none of the characters seen a Stephen King miniseries, all bad shit happens in Maine, avoid it with extreme prejudice.
[THEY FLOAT]
And just to be safe, stay away from America full stop.
It's funny because you can find Stephen King posters in the game
So uh, Russia or America?
I can assure you this state is not a dangerous one.
@@rouletteroller says you, maybe you're a member of your town's demob worshipping cult, and you're tryng to get tourists to sacrifice to some demon!
i love when he says 'HAVE FUN!' xD
I think we all do.
Shmixil Lixil
pretty much
God he explained the lore of that game in 1 minute better than i can in half an hour.
I like how the tourist promoters happened to be Daniel & Alexander
0:14 Daniel and Alexander I almost died hahaha
Dahlia didn't set the house on fire. It was a boiler explosion that happened that time... This LORE episode follows the lore of Silent Hill Origins, not the original Silent Hill by Team Silent.
Origins ruined the lore big-time, homecoming and the 2 movie made it worse
@@brimstonesulfur5013 Yup. And now Silent Hill as a series is in a unique position of being praised by people who misunderstand its lore due to the license having been through hands of people (developers and moviemakers) who didn’t bother to actually research the story of it.
It is literally absolutely disgusting.
Oh my god, Daniel and Alexander xD
Recognised them immediately
LeadPencil-223 , ,,,!mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Same XD
Thanks a lot! For an upcoming video on game studies and horror, this plot summary is very helpful 😊
THANK YOU! I was so mad when they had Pyramid head in the newer games. Good to see I'm not alone in this.
0:15 Lol Alexander and Daniel!!
GREAT GALORE MORE LORE!
NEXT LORE: LORE- Lore Lore in a Minute!
0:14 Alexander and Daniel :D
Wait, in Silent Hill: Origins... The burning house where you're saving the girl at the beggining of the game, is the house at 0:36 ? I'm not really known with the series...
0:14 Alexander of brennenburg (from amnesia) haha!
One year worth of weekly lore, congratulations!
Great video mate, keep up the good work.
it wouldve been great if zero punctuation voiced this one. he mentions silent hill 2 a fuckton
His NAME is Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw.
Corbin West why are you EMPHASIZING random WORDS
Learn Quick Otherwise it would have been a case of "I think Halo is a pretty cool guy."
'Sides, if I wanted to talk funny, I'D TypE LikE MY TrollsonA.
0:15 Is the man on the left Alexander of Brennenburg from Amnesia: The Dark Descent?
Bastion Lore.
I never really understood what the 'calamity' was all about, plus its an awesome game.
Love how Alexander and Daniel are those promoting the town as a "family friendly" (murderly) tourist destination.
0:15 Alexander and Daniel from Amnesia! XD
0:15 Alexander and Danel
I was waiting for this one.
so on point, love it
Except that every single story has a meaning. A meaning that the writers meant it to have. And The Real Silent Hill Experience has done a magnificent job of showing just that exact story.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the fire that maimed Alessa an accident and not intended by the cult? I remember hearing something about how there was a script error in the American release of the first Silent Hill game that resulted in an in-game news article detailing that the fire was shown to have been due to the boiler of her house exploding being omitted.
What I heard is that during the ritual to impregnate Alessa with their god, the cult had scared her enough that her psychic powers caused the boiler to explode, resulting in the events of the game.
You are correct, the script error was there, plus the silent hill origin game helped to greaten that error
45678ret Alright then, good to get confirmation. Thanks.
+Jewbear1884 Wrong, it was heavily implied throughout the first and third games that fire was a part of the Order's ritual. FOR GOD SAKE, PLAY THE GAMES BY YOURSELF.
*****
Silent Hill is shit though. The movies are better.
however you prefer
PH is an apparition created by the town. It's a dark reflection of the mind he is hunting, much like everything else encountered in Silent Hill.
slender builds up suspense when you hear the rumbling in the backround! and they build suspense with the constant threat of you seeing him and dying when your trying to find the pages!
Hold up there's a mistake here. Dahlia did not burn the house down with Alessa in it. During the ritual to impregnated her, Alessa's heighten stress levels caused a boiler explosion that burned the house down. There's a memo that does not appear in the North American or Japanese version of the game because of a faulty piece of code but it does in the European release of the game after it was patched. Also this coincides with the manifestation of delusions article. If you wish to understand it better check out Twin Perfect's The Real Silent Hill Experience P4 for more info.
Funny how it's a JAPANESE game then, if the Japan release of the game isn't correct.... That seems a bit sus to me.
I thought they made it look accidental to get away with crippling Alessa, ensuring she couldn't escape. After all they had constantly abused her before, which one of her teachers noticed and had considered coming forward to the authorities with.
Well, in the Japanese version You can read that article too.
#LORE doesnt go into depths to give us the actual story alessa wasnt set on fire on purpose watch twin-perfect if you want the actual story
YAY! finally! :D
thanks guys I love you!
You're in a forest finding pages for no apparent reason. Meanwhile a tall chap in a suit chases after you. There, done.
0:35 Actually Allessa's (Is that right?) heightened stress caused the fire.
Yea, you're right. Alessa's heightened stress levels caused her to accidentally make the boiler room explode causing the fire.
+Shancheze Johnson TwinPerfect ey? :)
+GuyOnAChair Yes, I watched the entire Twinperfect silent hill experience series. I am definitely a silent hill fanboy. Lol
Did you see that happy happyist at 0:23?
+Frelling Dren Twin Perfect mate.
wait, MAINE??? ZOMG MAH STATE IS IN A VIDEO GAME!
Also countless Stephen King books. I mean really what is about that state that attracts supernatural forces.
Sam Hulme
mabie the forts?
I think it was Texas in the game. My state :D
*****
ether way it takes place in america
It's probably the lobsters and the woopie pies.m
@lore OH THANK YOU! I didn't think you guys would do this, but man you sure surprised me!
welcome back to youtube
Just watch "The Real Silent Hill Experience".
Does it really matter if Dahlia burned Alessa or if an accident burned her first? Either way, Alessa was going to be immolated as part of the ritual. That's it.
Depends on if you want to be correct or not.
MOST.AWESOME.CAR.CRASH.EVER.
of all time.
Wow the soundtrack to this video was amazing! You should start linking to the songs you use in these videos!
.....
What
no, the fire was an accident
I always thought they made it look accidental to get away with crippling Alessa, ensuring she couldn't escape. After all they had constantly abused her before, which one of her teachers noticed and had considered coming forward to the authorities with.
Legacy of Kain Lore in a Minute would be fun.
Daniel and Alexander promoted the town :D ... it all makes sence now :O
dahlia never set fire to the house, it was a boiler explosion due to Alessa's stress caused by all the things she was going through with the order.
I always believed they made it look accidental to get away with crippling Alessa, ensuring she couldn't escape. After all they had constantly abused her before, which one of her teachers noticed and had considered coming forward to the authorities with.
....... you only did silent hill origin..... this was.... False advertising...
Roman Wolf The way you spell origin should qualify you for false advertising.
Lmfao
Love his, "Have Fun!" Cheerful little good luck even though you know its a nightmare!!
I subscribed!!!
That would be awesome!
wow, chill man, damn
I totally agree! There was an Ingame Message about an old Boiler and about stress-related symptoms, that can cause old Boilers to explode. One of the Developers confirmed that Alessas Stress caused the Boiler to explode and set the fire.
Check "The real silent hill experience", its all in there.
Wow, need to wach this again...
That's the best answer I've received to that question. Thanks.
please do pokemon/dragonball/yugioh lore in a minute
What do we learn? Never ever pick up road babies, those babies will hijack more than your ride.
Essentially, Alessa created a world made out of her personal mindscape in the first game. Afterwards this sort of stuck around and responds to other people's minds.
That's why we need a Silent hill 2 lore
nintendude8VG is right, the legend of Slendermen has been around since the early 1500's. It basicly states that Slenderman or der Grobmann (the tall man) was a fairy that lived in the Black Forest. He would chase bad kids who wandered into the forest at night until he either caught them or they told their parents that they were bad. The charactistic suit was added when he was recently revived as an urban legend.
this makes more sense than the movie!!
the other half of alessa didn't just show up on the side of the road by magic powers. Nurse lisa took the baby in fear that the order would use that baby as another sacrifice
I feel proud knowing silent hill takes place in my home state
So I'm not huge into horror games, but after hearing this I'm interested.
the mother didn't burn the house down, the child had psychic powers, and because the ritual was so intense, the girl accidentaly blew up something
0:15 ok I love this bit bc I headcanon that Amnesia and SH are in the same universe
no, i am not kidding. there is an actual drawing from the 1500s of what looks like a tall skeleton like knight with extra limbs.
You found him!! There wasn't supposed to be that much fog originally.
I was referring to the article when it comes to the houses. I didn't know being mistaken instantly make you a liar, he wasn't there. Yes, there's a lot of fire but quoting you "Fire may not have been necessary" you're proving my point that the ritual didn't involve actually burning the one that will birth the god.
if anyone else remembers early Charter "On Demand" services, you might remember something Starz ran; "Bunnies" a series of 1 to 5 minute summaries of films like Lore. I miss those.
I LOVED THOSE THINGS!
This video game psychologically profiles you as you play.
It gets to know who you really are then uses this information to change itself. It uses its knowledge against you, creating your own personal nightmare.
This game plays you as much as you play it.
welcome to youtube
The fire was an accident caused by Alessa's stress when they were doing the ritual.
The meaning of lore from audioenglish: 1. knowledge gained through tradition or anecdote. Lore is just facts about the thing.
have fun in Silent Hill yeaahh
Two sticks hit a ball until either one of the players "Rage Quit"... HAVE FUN!
Best story ever! Love SH
After seeing Schroeder wearing that Iron Helm allows me to give a high-five, but.... he's not in my presence....
the main connection i made when i first heard about it was that it was a mix of 2 monsters from doctor who , the silence (the blank face and suit) and the weeping angles (his powers)
The only thing I remember from that game is "Huh? Radio...? Whats going on with that radio?"
why do we always have fun
Thanks!
Hes also known as: Red Pyramid Thing, Red Pyramid, or Bogeyman. In Japanese: 三角頭 (Sankaku Atama) Pyramid Head represents James' wish to be punished for Mary's death. Known for his large triangular head, Pyramid Head lacks a voice, and his appearance stems from the "distorted memory of the executioners" and the town's past as a place of execution. So yeah, I hope this helps ;o;
Close, but a few significant mistakes, freaknr1 explains them in his post. Alecia's original body remained alive because the demon refused to let it die, because it needed it as a vessel.
0:09 to 1:09 is one minute.
GENIUS
THANK YOU SO MUCH for not mentioning Origins.
That was my favorite tv show ever! I think some people just say its stupid because that's what everyone says because they can't understand it.
If I remember right, Alessa was actively tortured by her mother without pause for all or nearly all of her life. I think a nurse said her wounds were 'so horrible' and that they 'just never healed'. I'm pretty sure the torture was mystically created.
Shit that was fast! I thought he would include the rest of the games. But I’m grateful for what I got so I’m not gonna complain ☺️
Indeed, exploding due to Alessa's stress. She is psychic after all!
Dahlia didn't set fire to the house. Alessa psychic power caused a furnace to explode because of the stress of the ritual.
I think that they might be saving that for the 100th episode.
I want to see a video explanation for ALL the silent hill games done this way :3
you're a pirate reptile, so I'm pretty sure there's no way for them to refuse.
Heh, dear Mr. Sunderland.
That guy would deserve his own lore minute. In fact, most of the Silent Hill games warrant their own episode, but especially 1, 2, and 3. They were the best
The ritual didn't actually involve fire, the fire was accidently started by Alessa when the stress from the ritual caused her powers to go off and blow up the boiler in their house.
Crap... I cant stop watching these!!!
omg it makes sense now
