The Normans in S. Italy led by the de Hauteville brothers is one of my favorite periods in history. It's amazing how these Few Norman knights dominated the battlefields of S. Italy and Sicily with their disciplined and ferocious cavalry charges. It's told that after the Battle of Civitate the victorious Normans, much to the shock and bewilderment of Pope Leo and his Bishops, knelt before the pontiff begging Gods forgiveness. Though I wouldnt be surprised, in the least, to learn that that wasn't the History YOU were taught in school. Perhaps God favored them over Mohamed's followers after all, eh?
Unfortunately, many comments absurdly exaggerate the importance of the Normans. The Normans actually achieved nothing. They hung around in Italy for 200 years and ultimately didn't achieve anything. Further the administration things by William Longsword helped make Normandy into a well governed unit
Content like you that make me enjoy history more 😁👍🏾
Best production and editing yet, sorry for my ignorance is this voiced by human? The voice is very atmospheric.
Thank you sir. Yes, the voice is a human lol. It's David McCallion
Another beautiful video, thanks for another history lesson sir!
Great video: why don't make a video about Dyrrachium (1088), the Hastings' (hoped) revenge?
Excellent! Most Excellent!
Part two please 🙏?
This is great to listen to. These leaders and their fighters were brave souls.
the Normans of the "Altavilla" branch were the progenitors of the kingdom of the 2 Sicilies. many people in southern Italy have Norman blood.
Another awesome video as always! I wonder if you guys have any plans or would like to do some stuff about struggle between various islamic powers. One period I'd personally like to see you guys cover is the Anarchy in Samara. I think you'd agree it's a very interesting, yet not so well known, period with many many great stories from the Tulunid rise in Egypt, to the various dynasties of Khorasan and Central Asia, to the regency of the big man, Al-Muwaffaq, himself and his efforts to keep the empire together.
Didn't the Turkish leaders kill each other? This is the curse of the Abbasid caliphate. They won
THIS CHANNEL IS AMAZING, I THINK YOU SHOULD START ADDING SOME BATTLE CLIPS.
How about an episode about the Battle of the Milvian Bridge. This battle is one the most importants in human history.
yeah the most important battle, even more then Hastings(1066), Las Navas de Tolosa (1212), Lepanto (1571), The battle of Nation (1813) and more.
@@Alonkis251 I've never heard of the battle of nations. Does it have a different name? And who were the belligerents?
@@Imperator-vo4to battle of leipzig
Napoleon vs coalition
@@Imperator-vo4to the battle known as Battle of Leipzig (of the Napoleonic wars). The name "Battle of Nation" was coined by the German National movement: The battle where all who have German Spirit united against the France Oppressor, Napoleon. Well something like that.
Honestly battle of las navas and lepanto are not even such important like people like think
What a great story. I have to admit I was pulling for the Normans. Nothing like taking a Pope prisoner in Italy to really send a message to your enemies.
Later Guiscard became the Gonfaloniere/Banner/Servant-Protector of the pope though
Always a pleasure to met this beautiful work of dedication. Congratulations.
Awesome thanks 👍
Hands down best youtube channel
The art is TOP NOTCH.
Here because I'm loving playing Bannerlord lately! Thank you for a GREAT video!
This is a great example of Quality over Quantity also the battle of Dunbar is a great example. But you can never say “Quality is better than Quantity” or the other way around, cause it depends on the Situation (Not counting many other factors like terrain, weather, morale etc)
If you count the horses as combatants the numbers are not so different
@@Harrier_DuBois That isn't always the factor you think it is, see Battle of Golden Spurs or Crecy.
@@tedhodge4830 yeah the battle of Golden Spurs is a great example. This battle was seen as a manifestation of the so called “Infantry revolution” in medieval warfare during 14th century
@@chungus1219 No, they were defeated after this battle by the Roman infantry and the Turks
@@عليياسر-ذ5ب what (We are not talking about Alexios and the crusades)
I find your documentary video highly interesting, i think i got addicted to this type of content and i just started watching your channel a week ago
This was á great vídeó the Normans are very influental
Fantastic video, the amount of effort and detail is palpable, subscribed and will be watching more
This is my sacrifice to the algorithm
The way that Leo looked into the camera scared the shit out of me
9:45
I love how the greeks after seeing the normans success were like “oh hell nah” and literally disbanded an entire army
VERY quickly becoming one of my favorite, if not my favorite, channel on RUclips.
Hey can you also animate few Indian battles as well? It would be really cool. For eg:- Battle of Haldighati, Battle of Hydapses(jhelum), Battle of Saraghani etc.
Wow that was incredible! I kind of want to see what happens next with the story if the Norman's!
