The boom is much underrated. The professional converters alone blow audient, f.... etc out of the water. It is cheap even, 180 euros.
I enjoyed the clarity of your walkthrough, as well as the enthusiasm for it.
Very helpful! Thank you. As a voice actor I was very happy to see what you created with your bass, knowing I can do similar with my voice if I want to!
Super overview! 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
Great overview - just the facts, man...!
thx, just what I needed ;)
i have always bought apogee interfaces...i love...are awesome ❤
0:01 Chris…I’m lovin’ the ‘Stash brother 🥃
it really needs the headphone output on the front. It's so awkward to have it on the back when using it both portably or in the studio. BTW I'm still running my Apogee Duet FireWire (from 2007 I think) on Mac OS Monterey. The old as hell drivers still work even though it's unsupported :D I loooooove the sound of my Duet. It looks like this BOOM is going to be on my Xmas list to finally give the Duet the retirement it so well deserves
Just about to pick one of these up, they're going for £129 in the UK, $163 USD equivalent ❤
Apogee sound is truly great quality. Unfortunately, my Apogee One was such a piece of shit, that just fell apart, I didn't even consider Apogee after that and went with Focusrite. The Boom does look like it's well constructed though! Thanks for the review.
Hopefully they will update the firmware to enable using the headphones output simultaneously.
I just got the unit great sound for an awesome price the only quirk of the unit is that you always need to unplug the headphones to use the monitors out which is a bit weird because the apogee software gives you the control for both volumes. Wouldn't be simple to have at least a switch in the software? I don't get this ;(
Nice moustache dude :)
Thoughts on using it as a hybrid mastering stereo interface. For example, I do all of my hybrid mixing via RME hardware and a console back into the RME for the mixbus. What’s your opinion of the Apogee converters versus RME? Was just thinking about using it solely as a high sample rate Analog to digital converter for mastering.
RME is The Greatest Of All Audio interfaces

Great review.
How does it compare to the Element 24?
That's what I'd like to know. I love my Element, but it eats up my one and only Thunderbolt port that I used to use for my external display.
Element series was little higher than Duet and BOOM mostly replaces Apogee One in their line.
Input 2 is intrument only, also no direct monitoring from within logic ‘direct path” , $300 is not cheap, you can get more from the Ua Volt .
Hi Chris. Thanks for all the helpful videos. You had mentioned that you preferred this over the Focusrite Scarlett. Was there a reason for this? I have a Focusrite Scarlett. The USB port on mine failed after about a year. This was concerning, but I will say their customer service was fantastic and they have a 3 year warranty, which is much better than the norm.
Anyways, I'm already on my second Scarlett so I am a little concerned, just wanted to know what you liked better about this unit. Thanks!
Bummer that you can't use headphones and speakers at the same time.
I’d like to think that this could be manually overridden
This is really annoying. I hate it😞
I noticed the 2 inputs are different. Is it possible to connect a stereo keyboard to it?
Both preamps support instrument level signal. You just need to configure the preamp though on the app that came with it.
Want discuss about the noise of this "fantastic preamp" that is 4 times what you can find on half priced interface? good luck with Dynamic mics.
Or about the comfort idea of to put on the back the headphones output, with a system that require you to unplug for to listen your monitor,
than go to the rear and plug again, go to the rear unplug, ...?
I cant register apogee acount and download driver can help me bô driver pls
Based on the review and measurements done by Julian Krause, you don’t really seem to get ”Apogee quality”. Probably worth checking his review out before buying…
There was some firmware updates since and they somehow lowered noise floor on the front end.
Apogee is notorious for the bad pops and clicks and crackles in their lower priced systems… How does the BOOM compared to all of those?
Checked out Boom and Duet 3 recently and they didn't have any behavior like that. Stable and very sweet sounding.
This costs half what a Duet costs so now let's see what Apogee does with pricing for the Symphony range.
Apogee Boom or Focusrite? 🤔
🤟🙏🏻
I'm sure it's good but it sort of looks like an early 2000s interface!
The first Mac with USB 3 came out in 2012, the first mac with thunderbolt 3 came out in 2015. Until this year Apogee was all thunderbolt 2 and its flagship Symphony IO is still Thunderbolt 2, this is 7 year old technology. This is why UA is eating their lunch, not because they have better conversion or mic pres because their hardware is up-to-date. You can't wait 10 YEARS TO UPGRADE YOUR HARDWARE TO STANDARD!!!!
What’s it matter? USB has plenty of bandwidth to support audio. Heck RME does the same and is excellent.
When you replace hardware it becomes a huge problem. You experience signal drop and loss when gender bending firewire 2 to firewire 3. There's a whole world wide web of people out there having the same problem. FWIW RME converters use USB 2 not Firewire. Comparing the two are like comparing a Bentley to a Cadillac
