Bill is so humble! He won’t admit it but I will- That is the greatest score in motion picture history. Imagine living life without ever hearing that theme??
Between the movie itself and the soundtrack, it got me through a terrible time. I'd had a spinal fusion from an accident at work, and that put an end to me playing hockey, which was a big part of my life then. This soundtrack got me through 2 years of physical therapy and helped give me enough will power, that I made it back on to the ice for two more years. My favorite track is The final Bell.
Just love Bill Conti. One of the most celebrated composers in cinema history. For 1976's Rocky, the film's theme song "Gonna Fly Now" was nominated for an Academy Award for best original song in 1977. This is the first of many for Bill Conti. Seven years later, he won an Original Score Oscar for The Right Stuff in 1984. Plus, he won numerous Emmy Awards too. Thank you, Bill Conti, you're simply the best !
A magical soundtrack for a magical movie. I think the enduring fascination with “Rocky” is it connects with the audience on a gut level, with primal human emotions. I believe Stallone said in an interview that “Rocky” is not a “boxing movie”, it’s a love story that just happens to be about boxing. As to Bill Conti’s score, it is IMHO the most “essential” in the history of movie making. Absent his brilliant work, “Rocky” would never have achieved the level of success it did. I have this fantasy where Avildsen, Stallone et al hear Conti’s score for the first time, and look at each other with giant shit-eating grins on their faces as they realize “Rocky” is gonna be a huge hit.
I don‘t know if Bill Conti knows what powerful music he created.. „Going to fly now“ and „going the distance“ still gets me going everytime I listen to them!
The second part of Going... is a shameful plagiarism of an italian song of 1973 called "E cosi per non morire" sang by Ornella Vanoni.Conti was the arranger of the song and he used that part in Rocky.Listen up.I discovered that yesterday watching an italian tv series on Netflix.I loved Bill Conti ma now my love is over.!!!
What struck me after listening to it over and over several times, the Rocky main theme, is that it is actually a disco styled song. I had never noticed that back in the day. Clearly when you listen to the cymbals that the drummer is playing, it's disco. Not surprising as it is the first of two blockbuster movies that the sound track was what really pushed the success of the movie. The second being Saturday Night Fever which came out the very next year after Rocky.
There's a disco version of this theme, just type in 'Rocky Theme Disco Version'; there are 2 such videos, with slight differences. Listen also to the 'Bill Conti-Overture' video (8:38 min) for a disco dance segment within this extended piece.
Yeah, I guess so....but those disco versions are sooo cool. I love that sound; my favorite 70s tv theme is the funky, disco-flavored 'Baretta' theme with Sammy Davis Jr on vocals. Also check out 'Going the Distance--Orchestral Version'. Bill Conti truly is a freaking genius. Sly was blessed to find him & smart to hire him back in the day.
That was the music style of the time the very first hit remake of Gonna Fly now it's from Trumpeter and jazz musician the late Maynard Ferguson which is really good and it's very heavy disco just to tell you.
The irony of Barbra Streisand complimenting Mr. Conti is that at the 1977 Oscars her theme song from 'Star is Born' beat out "Gonna Fly Now" for the Oscar for best theme song. Go figure.
Bill is so humble! He won’t admit it but I will- That is the greatest score in motion picture history. Imagine living life without ever hearing that theme??
I disagree. There are a ton of great scores. Terminator, Matrix, the thing, holloween, I can keep going.
No.
THANK YOU A MILLION FOR THAT SOUNDTRACK MAESTRO BILL CONTI!

This is so badass
wooww never noticed the backward shot !
This is what I like about ART. Don't bring a scientific formula in it. Just let it be, let it do its magic, let it emerge from the unexpected.🥰

writerforlifeify Interesting. Yet even the original version is disco.

well without you mr Bill Rocky wouldn't be Rocky

G.O.A.T.
Bill Conti starts playing the theme on the piano and the editors decide that's the time to play the record instead. ;-/
I agree with you Rafael.
what music bill got inspired to write rockys reward?
mandou bem
composer was underpaid and for an was worked for an hour.
the Movie is garbage without the music
The sign of a genius, someone who makes something brilliant that in one minute is created out of nothing, seemingly effortlessly.
