The White Sox starting pitchers threw four complete games in the LCS round. That’s the only time this has happened in a round before the World Series, and I don’t think we’ll ever see it happen again. They had a really good World Series run.
Game 4 was the same October 15 day as that famous college football Saturday with all those wild finishes (USC/Notre Dame, Penn State/Michigan, Louisville/West Virginia, Wisconsin/Minnesota, Michigan State/Ohio State)
Game 5 on Sunday didn’t have major H2H football competition (Seattle ran for over 300 yards against the winless Texans on ESPN) so a lot of eyeballs were on FOX
Vladimir Guerrero in these 5 games against the WSOX = 1-for-20, 1 RBI, batting average of .050, and an OBP of .050 Vladdy overall in this postseason had no home runs, and only 1 RBI But he did hit well against the Yankees despite having no RBI
AJ Pierz sure had a memorable ALCS: - In game 2, there was the home-plate-umpire strike-3 caught-or-not situation. - In game 4, he was involved in a controversial play when his catching glove interfered with the Angels hitters bat (Steve Finley), which turned into a doubleplay and ruined the Angels rally. - In game 5, he was involved in a controversial play when he was tagged by the pitchers glove, but the glove didn’t have the baseball since it was on the pitchers barehand, and then the out-call on AJ was reversed to safe.
When the White Sox last made the playoffs in 2000, they were heavily reliant on their offense (with all due respect to All Star James Baldwin) and we saw what happened when the big bats went AWOL vs Seattle This time, they had a complete pitching staff and still hit plenty of HR’s but now had speed where they could manufacture runs without four baggers In short they are now a complete team
For both game 5 of the ALCS and game 6 of the NLCS. This will be both the last time we would see the black ticker for Fox until that Saturday night when Fox debuted a new ticker. In a white background. Better graphics and such. Plus the debut of Fox Trax
Games 1-5: Joe Buck, Tim McCarver, Lou Piniella and Chris Myers. This series marks the debut of Lou Piniella on FOX’s Baseball Coverage. Next season Lou will make his debut in the booth in the regular season for FOX in the May 27th game when the Mets take on the Marlins: Kenny Albert will be his partner for that game.
He was very clutch for the WSOX in September and now October UNreal to think he was the WSOX number 9 hitter during the season, despite playing third base.
For the first time since 1959, the state of Illinois will host World Series games. WSOX lost the 1959 World Series to the LA Dodgers, which was the Dodgers first WS since moving to California.
@@chrisuncleahmad666 And the Milwaukee Brewers had been in the WS in 1957 and 1958, twice against the Yankees, both splitting the WS and both ending in 7 games This would have been the greatest era in Braves history, had it not been for the 1991-2005 Braves They lost a best 2-of-3 to the Dodgers in the NL Pennant series tiebreaker, and both losses were one-run-losses, and that second loss was a brutal loss.
All I know is that the home-plate-umpire made the out-fist-signal in game 2 on AJ Pierz, and that alone ends the batter without needing to tag the batter or throwing it to first base.
The “other team” of Chicago vs the “other team” of Los Angeles. And unreal that the WSOX and Angels are considered the “other team” of Chicago and Los Angeles, when the WSOX have been in Illinois just as long as the Cubs, and the Angels have been in South California just as long as the Dodgers.
Whats forgotten about this ALCS game-1 and game-2: 1- Jose Contreras almost pitched a complete-game in game 1. It would have been a complete-game-loss. He only had 102 pitches and was two outs away from pitching 9 innings. 2- Mark Buerhle was going to pitch the 10th inning in game 2. He came out of the dugout to start the 10th inning before the Pierzienskie fiasco.
Four complete games in an LCS by one team, and the the only time its happened in a playoff round that wasn’t the World Series. I doubt we’ll ever see that again with the way starting pitchers are used.
Not mentioned, this was the week that the Bears turned their season around with a 28-3 victory over Minnesota. The Bears would begin to have major success for the rest of '05 and it carried to '06.
Angels offseason moves: - Paul Byrd is now a free agent and he will sign with the Indians in the offseason. - Jarrod Washburn is now a free agent and he will sign with the Mariners in the offseason - Angels will trade Steve Finley to the Giants for Edgardo Alfonzo. - Angels will sign Jeff Weaver in the offseason, where he will eventually join and be teammates with his brother (Jered Weaver). Jeff Weaver will later be traded to the Cardinals during the 2006 season. - Bengie Molina (starting catcher) is now a free agent and he will sign with Toronto in the offseason. Angels will bring up their top catcher prospect to be the everyday catcher starting in the 2006 season, Mike Napoli.
They gave the ALCS MVP to Paul Konerko; if you were gonna give it to an everyday player instead of the four starting pitchers, then Joe Crede should have won the ALCS MVP. Though the Angels and their fans had an issue with the umpires after game 2, it was evident that the Angels' bats had shut off and the White Sox were the better team.
Even with the Pierzynski brouhaha, the Angels still could have prevented the Ozuna stolen base. Heck they had an 0-2 count on Crede Or….. maybe just tag AJ They could have made the whole thing moot.
There was no need to tag AJ cause Paul caught the ball. That being said games 3-5 Angels had no chance with the way the White Sox starters were pitching.

Im still bitter that ND lost that game to USC
Game 5 on Sunday didn’t have major H2H football competition (Seattle ran for over 300 yards against the winless Texans on ESPN) so a lot of eyeballs were on FOX
That’s right, back when Sunday Night Football was on ESPN, and Monday Night on ABC

AJ knows DRAMA
The White Sox finally won an ALCS home game and what a way to do it
I think thats their only ALCS homegame win as of the end of the 2023 season
When the White Sox last made the playoffs in 2000, they were heavily reliant on their offense (with all due respect to All Star James Baldwin) and we saw what happened when the big bats went AWOL vs Seattle
This time, they had a complete pitching staff and still hit plenty of HR’s but now had speed where they could manufacture runs without four baggers
In short they are now a complete team
And also, the Mariners in 2000 played the WSOX very very well during the regular season
Chicago’s pitchers certainly pitched in this series
4 complete games!

Crede comes up clutch just like that must win game vs Cleveland

1959 was almost an all Midwest WS as LA had to fend off Milwaukee for the NL pennant

Exactly it’s still annoying that some Angels fans to this day blame Paul for that. He had no doubt that he caught the ball.

Question: If the Angels win here, do you think they would have beaten Houston? (who got swept in the World Series)
@@fortynights1513 Absolutely the Astros would have had a chance. The Astros even played the WSOX tough in all 4 games, despite the loss
@@hmhm856I didn’t mean to imply the Astros necessarily wouldn’t have had a chance.
But they did get swept.
2:05 Jose Contreras amazing forkball (or splitter maybe)
Dustin Hermanson, Bobby Jenks, and that bullpen will certainly be well rested for the WS
Well, Hermanson has been on the DL since like the final weekend of the regular season
3 games in 3 cities!
Angels got Boned. WOW could of been a different WS.
4 Complete Games by 1 Team in a Playoff Series in 2005. Bullpen Usage was becoming more important in this time period.
Angels fans will never get over the AJ dropped third strike.
But unfortunately for them, Chicago's starting pitching WIPED OUT that whole lineup.
Neal Cotts, the only non starter for CHW to throw a pitch in this series
“Name that Molina”

Royals legend Paul Byrd
In 2002, the Angels lost ALCS Game 1 and won the next 4
Here? Complete role reversal
They gave the ALCS MVP to Paul Konerko; if you were gonna give it to an everyday player instead of the four starting pitchers, then Joe Crede should have won the ALCS MVP.
Crede’s numbers were way better than Konerko, and Crede had the walk off hit in game 2, and two clutch hits in game 5.
I guess they gave it to Konerko because of the two first innings home runs in game 3 and game 4 to give the WSOX the lead early in the game.
Heck the White Sox were trailing in game 5 before Crede went deep
The White Sox' first AL pennant since 1959.
Though the Angels and their fans had an issue with the umpires after game 2, it was evident that the Angels' bats had shut off and the White Sox were the better team.
12:12 Erstad making the third out of the inning at third base; thats a baseball no-no
Bruh
Even with the Pierzynski brouhaha, the Angels still could have prevented the Ozuna stolen base.
Heck they had an 0-2 count on Crede
Or….. maybe just tag AJ
They could have made the whole thing moot.
There was no need to tag AJ cause Paul caught the ball. That being said games 3-5 Angels had no chance with the way the White Sox starters were pitching.
I wonder if the Sox would've dominated the 3 games in Anaheim like they did if the controversial finish in game 2 hadn't gone their way.
Many bad umpire calls against both the Cardinals and Angels in each LCS
Vlad the Great was not so great in this series.
