Karate is largely ceremonial these days. That being said, any martial skill ( Notice I did not use the word "art") that involves actually hitting and kicking people and getting hit and kicked can be good training for "real" combat. They don't train for war lol. They condition and basically break their bodies to withstand punishment and fatigue. Based on what I've heard, they only have a few classes dedicated to adapting to combat.
