We forgot to mention, iPad models with magnets (Air/Pro) attach to the top of the Keyboard, which is how we have the iPad "stuck" to the SL88 in this video.

This is what I need from a review! Touched on so many super helpful things! Big thanks!
The Arturia KeyLab 88 has the same keybed as the SL88 by studiologic, iirc.
I have the 73 key version. How often does anyone use the bottom 8 and top 7 keys anyway?
I personally love the joysticks - the fact that there are 3 of them and not all are sprung to return to zero is much more useful than 2 wheels.
Is the SL 73 the same with just a fewer keys? I haven’t got enough room in my keyboard drawer, but I‘d prefer 73 keys to 61 keys. Another option for me would the Nektar Impact GPX 61 … May I ask for a short answer, please!
Would love to see a review and/or comparison of the SL88 Grand.
I love the board. 2 years with it, and it's been stellar.
I bought one of these for my musical theatre gigs. I have no faults for it at all - it's a great keyboard
I realize this is a year old video, but can anyone tell me the difference between the SL88 and the SL88L? and which is better
The yamaha p125 (88 keys) and p121 (76 keys) is also a great option, as it has an internal audio interface, just connect the ipad to the usb port and that's it, no need to connect to an external interface.
Will this keyboard allow the sounds from Sunday keys to output from the keyboards 1/4 inch jacks. Or do you still have to come out of the app for sound?
@@NathanLaValley
yes, the sound returns to the keyboard coming out of the speaker itself, or you can send it to the soundboard through the keyboard audio output
Sì ma mancano pitchbend e modulation wheel
Crappy action, very heavy
I love the sl88 in combination with the nanocontrol and sunday keys. Huge thanks on your team❤️
It's almost like this the SL88 and NanoKontrol2 were made for each other! Thanks for your support Richard!
I’m about to buy the sl88 to use with Sunday Sounds. How was it connecting the two? The setup video for Sunday sounds goes through the setup (usb hub, lots of cable, audio interface, etc). I had a hard time getting it to working with my Roland Juno DS. I’m hoping it’ll be more simple with the SL 88. TIA for any personal insight :)
Wow! This fits my budget, I'm getting it😆
Parabéns pelo excelente vídeo - Studiologic Brasil
Very nice review!
thanks!
I just picked one up as an open box for about $400. Next I’ll get the Arturia 61 with the pro bundle for about $450. Basically getting the quality keybed and a second controller with all the drum pads and physical controls (if needed for triggering tracks and lighting cues), but also getting some great software and samples/patches (6k!). In total, I’m in for $100 less than an M88 MkII with all the same hardware capabilities, quality, and software, plus and extra 61-key keyboard. 🤓💰😎
And, of course, Sunday Keys!!!
I have been thinking of doing exactly the same as you. Do the sl 88 and the arturia 61 work well together ? I will be using keyscape for the piano on my apple mac laptop.😅
When I had these thoughts which MIDI keyboard to choose, I read a lot of reviews complaining about the reliability of StudioLogic, that's why I've ended up buying the Roland A88Mk2. Yes, it is way more expensive, but it comes from a well known brand, that has the expertese of manufacturing keybeds. I'm very satisfied. I use it with MainStage and Keyscape. Thanks for the video.
Having previously owned that particular controller which is great as well. Studiologic has a parallel controller which is the SL88 Grand. It comes down as a preference yet the KeyBed on the Grand is a premium. Cost wise, the studio is hands down winner. IMO
How is the Roland A88 MK2 how is the ivory keybed? Is it challenging? I can't decide between the Roland A88 MK2 or the Studiologic SL88 Grand
@@tuneunleashed. The Roland action feels to me comfortable, but it is heavy. So even though it is a triple sensor keybed, it is very difficult to play fast trills because the heaviness.
@@meaviadyeah…I tried the RD88 and which has the same PH4 action…its heavy and freaking slow…I wish Roland used a better action on the Roland A88 MK2. It’s close to perfect though.
@@tuneunleashed if you want a GOOD keybed, it is only the Kawai VPC1, or the Kawai MP11. (or a grand piano :) )
Learning a lot, thanks!
looks fab! love that it has loads of input ports at the back! does it work with patch change pedals? or just sustain and expression?
I like that you can extend the SL series keyboards with the SL Mixface to control the zones and external Midi gear.
Sl88 studio has the same keybed and Keylab 88 amd NI S88 for half the price if all you care about it keybed.
I'd love to see a shootout between some popular semi-weighted brands. I tend to favor that action due to the amount of smears and glissandos for playing organ parts.
Also, what is the name of the layered patch at the 8:30 mark? Is there a Mainstage equivalent?
Ok - I did it. After buying an Arturia 61 MK2 and just having mixed feelings, after this video I purchased an SL88 Studio for my wife. It will be here Friday. I am so excited. We will have two keybiards although, I have a fee8 I will sell my Arturia and order a second SL88 Studio for myself ..so we will see....I BLAME YOU!! 😅😅😅
so ? how does it compares
@@jordan84504 Waaaaaaaay better. The Arturia is CLUNKY at best. Tons of buttons and whistles but be prepared to spend a year figuring it all out. Then comes the KEYS - ughh horrible. Feels like a toy. After playing a weighted keys keyboard, the Arturia is nothing more than an inflated 49.99 toy. I wanted to like it, but customer support was even worse. In a different country and when you send an email, they basically answer with the most retarded answers. They might as well have told me "did I turn the power button on". Anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinion - and this one is mine..
Make a video reviewing keyboards with inbuilt souds but under 500 dollars, and how can we make use of software the make atleast the soud better
You can’t lol. I’m not trying to be funny when I say this as I’m budget friendly but the reality is quality sounds starts around $1000-$1300. The quality of the samples your board uses or the modeling technology depends on this. Start with good sounds and a board that has an audio interface built into it so that you have the option to use software like Sunday Keys is the way you want to go. Stage pianos have come a long way. I’d look in that direction versus a full keyboard workstation to keep costs down for you
Thanks, nice and positive review!
Can the SL88 be used as a USB to MIDI interface with a computer? So, if I send MIDI from my laptop to the SL88, will MIDI go out through the MIDI out ports?
I've used a SL-990XP for years. Great feel. Only sustain and expression though, and only old school midi connections.
Thanks for the video. Looking to buy another keyboard for composing with sample libraries . I use Logic. Was thinking of the Native Kontakt SL88 and because I play piano (and can’t afford a grand piano) would the action on this keyboard be great for practicing like on a grand piano or would it make any difference with the Native Kontakt SL88?
Excellent controller. I, myself recommend it as well. 🔥🔥👍🏽
Hi.
Thanks for all your great videos
Is this compatible and easy to set up with MainStage 3?
I can't seem to find any videos that confirm this..
Thanks 🙏
I wonder why hardly anyone mentions the Roland FP10 or Yamaha P125? Maybe because they have internal sounds, but that doesn't mean they can't be used as midi controllers. They have fully weighted keys (even graded from heavy to light), are just as small and just as light as this one. Roland has way better hammer action than Studiologic, I would think.
nice the app sounds great guys, good job
Great review. Please...can you advise how do I connect this controller to my modx8? Tks
What a bummer we can't find this controller in Brazil, for some strange reason.
Bummer! Wonder if the M-Audio Hammer 88 is available there, that is a great alternative for the same price.
Shame we don't have this in the Philippines. Personally , would you still prefer that over Arturia Keylab MK2 88 when it comes to keybed quality and weight?
You can’t find a keyboard as good/versatile and budget friendly as the SL73. I use it to travel internationally and it has been through hell and that thing is built like a tank. I’ve took my Nord stage 3 on several trips as well, and the SL73 is more reliable by a mile.
So in the SL88, if you are using the Sunday Sounds app on am IPad, is there a need for any of the onboard settings? In other words, you just leave it on the first option and not worry about any of the onbOrd sound options correct?
Are there any specific settings on the SL88 that should be set?
Finally, if you are using SS app on ipad, is there a need to have the nanocontrol 2 ?
Are you using an audio interface or going straight through the SL88?
Great App! I've bought the Grandeur Sound from Native. Can I import this Plugin into the Sunday Keys App?
Hi, currently the App doesn't support 3rd party sounds, we do plan to add Support for AUv3 at a future date.
El mejor controlador ❤
If I connect the keyboard to the iPad, how am I going to connect headphones without having a latency?
Could I use this board with an akai mpc one?
I've had this keyboard for about a year. Overall, I'm pretty fond of it. The keys feel great and it's build like a tank. But I have to agree that the joysticks aren't perfect. They're pretty small, making it hard to get fine control. They also have a noticeable deadzone, which doesn't help either. Don't get me wrong-- it's a good keyboard. I just really wish it had the same wheels as the Hammer 88 (I've used M-Audio's wheels before and really like them).
Is this ipad only or can you use android tablet?
How do you mounted the iPad to the Keyboard at 5:06?
Since the top of the controller is metal and the iPad has a magnet embedded in the back, it's able to just lock into place!
SL88 is awesome but I do have a little issue with not having the wheel. Love the clean design tho.
I prefer the Arturia KeyLab 88 MkII, it allows me to have the MainStage SK programmed to all those knobs and sliders AND when I use the iPad app, I have a scene setup for the iPad too in midi to match. This allows me both options and I find the Nano controller redundant in most cases. Plus free software for additional use and it’s White 😊 (seen too many reds on stage). Yes it’s extra $. That’s why I got it out of pocket.
The M-Audio 88 with extra sliders does peak my interest for volunteers.
I don't understand what a keyboard review has do do with worship/church.
As a part of my churchs’ worship team, I’m happy to see a video like this. I trust Sunday Sounds and it’s great to see what they use and prefer so that when it’s time for me to upgrade I know it’ll work well in a church setting (versus like a traveling gig setup or something). Just my thoughts on it 😊
Is MIDI synths and iPads only a church thing? Seriously, it’s all I see. I’m a little reluctant to use the pair for preforming.
Are all of the keys weighted the same or are the high notes lighter and the low notes heavier? I’m using a Casio CDP-100 as a controller and it is far from ideal. Thanks!
The Studios are not graded. All keys have same weight. I believe the Grand is graded
Anyone that can explain if there is a difference in using ac adapter or just usb?
Are the keys on this keyboard graded too?
Also which one do you think has the best keys this or the Roland FP-10?
Not graded on the Studio models but I think the Grand model is graded
How does the keybed feel?
Good to know that God approves this keyboard 😄✌
this keyboard is filled with the holy spirit
Bro where is pitch bend and modulation wheel ?
It has 3 programmable joysticks. 1st joystick: auto-centering on both X/Y axes. 2rd joystick: auto-centering on X axis. 3rd joystick: free (not autocentering).
What lapell mic are you using?
Deity V.Lav, seems to have been discontinued though.
What about Novation Launchkey 88 MK3 88-key Keyboard Controller @$399
We do have a Launchkey 61 that we occasionally use and bring to conferences. Both are Semi-Weighted Action though compared to the hammer action you will find in the SL88 Studio and Hammer 88. The Launchkey 61 is super thin, lightweight and does look very clean.
@@SundaySounds I love my Launchkey 88. It's keybed is a vast improvement compared to the Launchkey 61!
Not hammer action but helps for playing synth parts. Would be cool to see your thoughts on it.
Is it just me or does this guy look a lot like the baritone singer from Pentatonix?
that's not for my church.. but good review
Can the SL88 and the SL73 be connected directly to speakers? Without using a PC?
No because this is only a Midi keyboard and not a synthesizer nor a digital piano
@@ElectronicBozo Are you sure about this?
@@jfanywhere He’s correct. This is what’s called a MIDI controller. It purpose is to send signals to a computer or hardware synthesizer, and the computer or synthesizer produces the audio signal.
No drum pads
Nice review. Also, god is an idea invented by humans. I'm glad musicians are taking advantage of this idea to make a living.
The review was brought down many pegs with all of the cult references to "worship" and such. Can't we just stick to music instead of constant references to the religion with the highest number of child sex abuse cases worldwide? Religion is like animal porn, it's obviously not for everybody, and it certainly shouldn't be brought up around children. Disappointing lack of ethics.
Seriously, can’t seem to find any videos or discussions with iPad as an audio interface for live preforming except for “worship rigging”. Definitely pushes me away from the idea
@@liouxliouxisgod be careful with that stuff, who knows what kind of demonic entity you might summon if you get the rigging wrong 🫣
Considering this channel is named Sunday Sounds and it’s up front about discussing all gear for churches, perhaps take the review for what it is.
In general iPads are not considered pro so most professionals use laptops, sound modules and internal sounds. So that’s why many professionals don’t review this workflow. But for many churches run on limited budgets (majority of churches are not mega ultra wealthy but rather less than 200 people associating for their beliefs) so having a setup for under a 1,000 that does everything they want is a big win.
Best of luck on your research.
If you want a non religious use case, I know Switchfoot tours with the SL73 so it is used by a professional touring band. Also B&H photo video or Sweetwater have excellent customer service and can answer a lot of questions.
Lol, I don't know why so many people hate God when he speaks of how wrong it is to lust and do evil to others. There are weird people in churches but I can guarantee that there's more weirdos outside of church. Prisons are full of people who do wrong but go ahead and hate Christians and God.
