I promise you this movie had more attention and was loved by everyone at the time of its release and when it played on HBO in the states. Back then, everyone watched it multiple times...more quotes than many movies I ever saw.
Apparently there was a lull in initial popularity but I can attest that once it hit cable, every kid I knew was quoting it for years afterwards. Doing Carl impressions was a very regular occurrence .
"That kangaroo just stole my ball!" Dangerfield really stole the show for me. He has so many hilarious lines, it's hard to count them all. As for the plot of the movie, it's kind of there, but definitely loses focus of it, but you're laughing so hard, you don't really notice nor care. It's definitely one of the funniest movies of all time, right up there with Airplane! and Blazing Saddles.
CaddyShack is one of those movies that when/if I stumble across it, the remote gets put down. In the late 90's, I swear that Comedy Central aired it at least once a week. I vividly remember watching it at half a dozen times during summer break. No complaints
Unfortunately I could never find one. Anytime I went to buy one somewhere that store was always constantly selling out of them. That's how popular the movie was 20 years ago at least.
Pink Floyd woulda been weird. It might have even destroyed the movie. Good thing. And yes,I love Pink Floyd. Just wouldn't have been right for this movie.
I remember the first network broadcast of Caddyshack years ago, and they dubbed that famous last line of the movie by Al Czervic (Dangerfield) by making him say "Hey everybody, let's all take a shower."
"So, i say, Hey Lama!!!, how about something for the effort, ya know, and he says to me: On your deathbed you will receive total consciousness... So, i got that going for me...."
There is a documentary about the making of this film. The reasons critics found it fragmented is because it was. The movie was originally going to focus on the caddies, with much less involvement from Chase, Murray and Dangerfield. They struck so much comedy gold while filming that they edited down the caddy plot line to include more comedic bits from the heavy hitters. This also explains why they added the gopher puppet. They figured it was a good way to string scenes together. With out the gopher, the movie would have played like a variety show.
Caddy shack is the most brilliant comedy movie made on a golf course. Bill Murray is completely hilarious as Grounskeeper Carl Spackler. This is one of the rare movies to star Bill Murray and his older brother Brian Doyle Murray, though they don't share screen time.A brilliant directorial debut for Harold Ramis. The movie is now 40 years old this year.

talk about times changing, my older brother actually watched caddyshack in late grade school or early middle school. could you imagine a school showing a movie with nudity now. lol
My father let me and my sisters watch this when we were WAY too young (around 12 years old) thinking it would go over our heads (some of it did), and forgetting what was in it (nudity). My mom walked in during one of those scenes and was like "What are you watching?!" We told her Dad let us watch it, next thing we know my dad came in the den saying "uh, maybe you shouldn't be watching that." Hehehe!

Good work Minty. I was lucky enough, (@12yrs)old to see this glorious movie and Airplane in a sit down double feature in 1980 with my 18 year old brother. I felt like I had done 10,000 sit-ups when I left the theater. I hurt for days. The glorious 80's.
Almost perfect video. Just one little point, since I was living in Florida in 1979, Hurricane David was a horrific storm, but really for the island of Hispaniola where Haiti and the Dominican Republic are. David his that island as a category 5, where the loss of life was incredible. By the time David made landfall Labor Day weekend, it was a very annoying and slightly destructive hurricane, and would have disrupted production of Caddyshack, but nowhere like you implied in the video. Otherwise, you did a wonderful job, man. Your take on this stuff is why I watch your channel.

@drew pedersen Rabbits are hard for cats to get. We lived next to a large field with bunnies hares and gophers. ONE cat got a bunny once. The hares, BOOM they are GONE towards the horizon. Fast. Only a fast dog would be able to run of those down. So if your cat got a rabbit it was doing well. Hares are faster than British rabbits. The gophers, the cats killed them but never ate them. So we had to clean up the corpses. And when the field was worked on in one of many attempts to make fit to build homes on the cats could catch a lot per day. half a dozen or more. My mother had three cats that hunted. No you don't want that. Only the gophers wanted it less than us.
