- More than 20 years since the premiere of “The Crocodile Hunter” on Animal Planet, his family is honoring the late Steve Irwin in a new series. His wife Terri and children Bindi and Robert join TODAY to talk about it: “I hope he’d be proud,” Terri Irwin says. And they’ve brought along some animal friends: a sloth, an alligator and a prehensile-tailed porcupine.

Yep, it was pretty stupid as well as completely ignorant of Steve to harass a sting ray by grabbing it from behind forcing it to defend itself with its stinger and killing him, leaving his children fatherless to go through life without him. Not quite the "animal expert" he made his millions faking he was, huh?

I loved Steve and can't believe it's been a decade since his death.
His kids are amazing and he'd undoubtedly be proud them. A huge credit for that goes to Terry; she has been a single mother for most of their lives and did a great job raising them. They - Terry, Bindi and Robert (and even the boyfriend Chandler) - all seem like genuinely nice people.

Everybody loved Steve Irwin, he was the best. Seemed like the nicest guy ever too as well. Broke my heart and im sure lots and lots of hearts when steve died. I remember it was the last day of summer vacation, labor day weeekend and the news came on that evening saying Steve passed away. Very, very sad. We all miss steve so much still, glad his family is doing well.

I’ve been watching them since maybe close to the beginning where she Bindy was born. They showed the birth.
Did you see when Robert was born and Bindi, while holding him said, "I think by the way he is, I'll call him Brian." Steve says "His name's Robert." Bindi: "But I'll call him Brian for short." Steve with zero hesitation, "Okay."
That was my favorite moment on Croc Hunter. He's so right; what's the big deal? Steve was a wise father.

I remember that show. Terry said how it was typical Steve to show up at the hospital with a camera crew to film the big event. He was a proud papa.
Oh god, I remember Terri's slight sense of exasperation, cause it's true- the crew was there for both births, like right after when she was probably still groggy. But he always had the best intentions, and he loved her so fiercely. So how could she ever be mad at him? I remember when he'd call her 'The most goooorgeous shiela in the world!" He's right; she's a beautiful, special woman for a beautiful, special man.

Brenda Salmon me too. That was a terrible night when I heard the news. My son came in my room and said " Mom... I hate to tell you this but people on Xbox live are saying Steve Irwin died today." I said " No way!" So I turned on the news really quick and right away I saw a picture of Steve on the TV and I knew it was true! I cried for days. I still tear up when I see the Irwins. His passion for animals was incredible. The world isn't the same without Steve Irwin in it. Love from Texas.
