I think it's a stretch to say that it's like someone was boycotting James' progress in the remake, as if he's stuck in a loop... but I ADORE this theory. Kinda fits with the new Bless ending.

I thinks it’s more appropriate to say that James is simply leaving “breadcrumbs” behind so as to take a different approach each time. With each dead body progressing little by little.
