In 2017 we should be capable of handling disasters like this. This hurricane made public figures aware well in advance. The city busses should have been used to get people out and shelters should have been set up in various areas, that way everyone can at least stay dry.

God is Good always Why would you be god to direct people to safety and have precautions set Up? Are people god for setting up traffic laws or a school system? No. Order is needed to keep people calm and safe

These areas have been wiped Out before WHY did they rebuild with the same shoddy Construction.

God is Good always Of course, but for people to wake to feet of water could have been prevented had the right measures been taken.

God is Good always I'm not saying hold back the storm, I'm saying getting people safe before it's too late

God is Good always Nah, only you can save your own soul, if souls are a thing. Jesus has nothing to with it. He may give you a path in which leads to your soul being good, but you must live in a way in which makes your soul good. i.e only allowing love, empathy, and good in your life. And only putting those things out into the world. That, my friend, is when you've truly been "saved" from evil.

So Harvey did landfall in Rockport the evening of the 25th. Had 36 hours approximately to evacuate. Not ideal due to transportation issues evacuating Houston in that time but why not try?

bmw2552 My friend is Baytown is getting hit Wednesday after it comes back from the gulf. They were told it was going to get as bad in Houston and to just stay put but now they can't leave. They have voluntary evacuations but all the roadways are flooded. They risk getting stuck in their cars if they leave now so they're going to ride it out in their homes and hope for the best.

@Amalgamaite In fact the short range models were showing these extreme 50+ inch totals days in advance but they weren't believed.

In 2005 Houston attempted to evacuate the city due to hurricane rita. Many lives were lost in traffic, sitting in hours and hours of traffic. No food, no gas, in the Texas heat. A trip to Austin that's only supposed till be a 2.5 hrs trip turned into a 36 hr. drive. The city is too populated. I believe the mayor tried to avoid round 2 of this chaos.

The people who could've evacuated but didn't...I don't know. They should be charged. Especially if they have children. I'm aware some people were just not able to evacuate. So don't comment saying "some people truly didn't have a choice!". I realize this. I'm not talking about them. But there's always those idiots who actively decide not to go because they don't want people looting and stealing their stuff, or they wanna keep an eye on their property and house and think they'll somehow be able to prevent damage or flooding, or they just don't believe it'll be that bad or otherwise think they'll be safe where they are. Yeah. Then people have to come in and rescue them. Putting those rescuers lives in danger, and the lives of those people who truly were unable to evacuate for legitimate reasons. I know we'd never be able to truly tell who those people are. But, fuck, it pisses me off. We see it here in Florida all the time. People on the news like "We thought we could ride it out, but then it just got really bad!". Or "I just wanted to be here and keep an eye on things!" . And to those people, I still fucking hope they make it out alright. I hope everyone in Texas can find safety and soon begin rebuilding. And the resilience is already showing.
