I really liked your interpretation of what reggae is. I, as a musician, was expecting to hear about the technicalities and learn about the rhythms/sounds etc… I’m glad I heard this video first. You just taught me it is important to learn not only the notes, but the stories behind them too. 🩷 Much love
Lol I love how he left out the fact that ska was created from Rhythm and blues music of the African American community. How they took our vinyls and tried to recreate the dance scene in America in Jamaica and later made ska from it.
He actually did mention that reggae came from Ska and Black American Music. He just didn't frame the origin steps properly. .i.e that Reggae comes from Ska which comes from Black American music.
Yes reggae music has its roots in poor east and west Kingston boys and 5 old white nuns From Alpha Boys School and Cathedral Choir School 8 emerald Road.

The Jamaican music was influenced by the African people that came to Jamaica and the enslavers. They brought their music to Jamaica and every other country that Africans were taken to.
Late Fifties- Mento,Calypso,Jazz, Bluebeat,New orleans Second Line and mild invention of Dj ing with Count Mackuki. Next Independence and need for a strictly Jamaican music, thus the invention of SKA(a quick faster beat than Bluebeat pushed by the horns.(see early Skatalittes) Dishonesty and higher prices with local musicians not being paid led to a slow disappearance of the horn players and a slower more fundamental rhythm with the bass/bass guitar taking the beat.(seeAlton Ellis- Coxsone early sixties recordings) Also an emergence of the early sixties phenom Prince Buster and the Count's Prodigy King Stitt taking DJing to a new level with the rhythm sections. Next the emergence of Lee Perry, The Chins, Kongs, among others and the beat becoming more or less defined as done in the Do The REGGAY by Toots and The Maytals. Further emergence of Count Ossie(Follk Bros) and his Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, and almost all local musicians becoming or wanting to take up Rastafarism. See Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, THe Upsetters, Revolutioners, and others. The history given above was at best a C and far too brief, with too many important points missing. Thanks for your good attempt as it still gives information to the unschooled. P.S. I personally knew a lot of the musicians involved.
Thanks for watching

Can you do an origin of Jamaican dub?
