Man, I’d love this unit. I like playing my original GameBoy games in black and white. I do have the Super Game Boy for SNES and the GameBoy Player for the GameCube… but this looks pretty cool to me.
Bought it when released. Hyperkin should have spent more time getting the emulation sorted out before releasing because it was pretty bad and I packed it back up almost immediately. Only took it back out once Hyperkin finally released an update which made it much better. Oh their update process is terrible too.
I wanted to get this when it came out but heard it wasn't good. I did get it later because they said they fixed gba games with a firmware update, but I was so disappointed with it I returned it after 1 day!!

The only major flaw I see are the GBA loading times, but I don't think it's a deal breaker or anything. The thing could definitely be a bit cheaper though considering it's very bare bones.
The loading times are long because it's putting the cartridge on the SD card. Obviously, ripping the cart takes a while, so what you should have tried is loading after it's been ripped. I'll bet it's a lot quicker. Also, it might be worth revisiting because they've updated the firmware, and people have accessed the retroarch running underneath, by plugging in a keyboard and pressing f1. Might be worth a try :)
I got a Megaretron and another Snes/Nes HD console from Hyperkin, the Megaretron died in less than a day, and the other console didn't work with Snes games, I got very disappointed and turned my satisfaction on other clone systems

Hyperkin really had ambitions with that gameboy game player but when it finally came out the console really fell flat on it face anyone that I saw who did a video on that console just hated everything about the system the constant complaint was the loading times and the screen tearing when playing games and also how horrible the picture looked up on the tv most people said they rather use the gameboy player attached to a Game Cube then anything else at that time because most gameboy consolelizers kits hadn't really gotten to the market yet.
Really wished they hadn't gone for the Snes control layout for this one. I know that they'd need to make a new molding and circuit board going for it, but I really wished there was a controller that had the exact number of buttons the gba had.
I have a retron 5 that just didnt work until I installed the firmware update and now its awesome. so maybe try seeing if you have most up to date firmware?

I'm wondering does the controller use the same button mapping as the original SNES controller? I like using an arcade stick for certain games, and I can plug it into a USB adapter. I have the Retrobit Super Retrocade, and I can't use an original SNES controller because the mapping is different.
There are updates you need to download. There is a video from rock solid productions I may be saying that name wrong It's one of the 1st videos you find on RUclips for firmware updates for Hyperkin SQ. Is another customer service team this suck I purchase mind back in March 18 2021 it does not work I tried it get them to fix it they gave me a hard time I do not recommend this Product.
Technically you weren't wrong because it is a package from China. Because let's face it you buy usually any electronics printed on the box made in China or at least PRC for People's Republic of China.
It said you could switch without powering off, you did that. From what i understand these hyperkin games use rom dumps from your cartridge and plays it into a emulator

Is there a Easiest Way to figure out something… I went to use my Usb Stick Drive Flash, Thumb, Pen, and Memory Stick to download the Cheat Device App for the Latest One… and I put it onto my Ps2 without the Emulator with Ulaunchelf… I press circle on the Mc01 or Mc02 and I pressed it… and the Cheat Device App didn’t appear… I just got a bit Complicated I don’t know what to do and it’s not letting me no more I went to Extract, Compress, Move, Copy, Paste, and I putted it on WinRar, Zip File, Tar.Gz and Others and it says root670 I looked at the Files to tap on anything… also the Fat 32 when I download on the Pc to put it on the Usb Stick Drive on the Normal Original Ps2 it didn’t appear and Fmcb Installer mine doesn’t have it on Ulaunchelf and it’s not there on my Free McBoot Version 1.966 of the Memory Card…

Yeah love my retron 5 too, bought chrono trigger and bahamut lagoon in japanese for 10 euro, the translate function is just awesome.

Out of the box this thing is really awful. You can improve things a little with custom firmware but it never reached its true potential.

Glad i own the gameboyplayer,no bullshit loading times and no compatibility issues.
Gameboy Player has major sound issues when playing GBC Cannon Fodder, it didn't like the recorded sample sounds.
The idea was fantastic, still is to be honest. But the execution was subpar.
