Project Necromancer, name dropped in The Mandalorian, is definitely about resurrecting/cloning Sheeve Palpatine to be the true ruler of the galaxy. They are absolutely bridging the gap between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens with the Favreau and Filoni shows.

Tbh I’d say point 1 is exactly what’s happening rn with Filoni’s stuff at bare minimum. It’s all very obvious what it’s leading to; a canon and very loose adaptation of the Heir to the Empire. Thrawn will escape the galaxy with Peridea, he’ll unite the Imperial Remnants, and it’ll be this big crossover event with all the Mando era characters

I’m almost 50 and when I say or hear STAR WARS I think of Chewbacca, Darth Vader, The Millennium Falcon, Luke, Han, Leia, Jabba the Hutt etc. If Disney does a survey with kids (15 and younger) and ask them “What do you think of when you hear and say STAR WARS?” And their response is Kylo, Rey, Mandalorian, Baby Yoda, Inquisitors, Finn, BB-8, Moff Gideon then Disney is doing exactly what they planned to do. Disney SW is not for the older crowd it’s for the kids. Let them watch and enjoy. Pick what they love about it (maybe young Leia or Reva). We older folks of the OT and PT had our turn and we all just need to “Move along”.

The High Republic is about 300 years before the movies. It’s all completely new characters and not remotely tied into the saga. Some of the books would be awesome movies and this group of authors actually do have a plan. These are all interconnected stories.

@@fateagle4lifeStar Wars has never been a big literary franchise, it’s a movie franchise. Whether they sell or not has no bearing on whether they’d make a good movie. The books could be the greatest Star Wars story ever told and they still wouldn’t sell in huge amounts as Star Wars fans don’t gravitate to the books or the animated shows or the comics, they want movies.
I’m not saying that they should or shouldn’t adapt High Republic stuff but John’s reason for dismissing it was incorrect.

People out here talking about how Star Wars is dead or dying.
Meanwhile, Star Wars is more culturally relevant and is being talked about WAY more than it was during the nearly twenty years between the end of the OT and the introduction of the prequels.
Yes; much of the newest material is kind of trashy, but that doesn’t negate the stuff that came out before. And there’s some good stuff mixed in with the trash.
Back in what some refer to as “The Dark Times,” when Star Wars content consisted primarily of novels and comics (and a couple of made-for-tv Ewok movies thrown in), fans were faced with media of wildly varying quality. And they did what any rational people would do: The celebrated the stuff they liked, and moved past the stuff that they didn’t.
This approach worked back then, and it works now. The only difference is that there’s way more stuff to choose from now than there was then.

  • @hc1883
    @hc1883 Год назад +4

i think the sequel trilogy did a lot of harm to the star wars brand that maybe irreversible to recover from especially with a huge chunk of the fandom who loved or liked the original trilogy and even those who grew up on the prequels
how they treated the character arcs and history of beloved individuals like luke, leia, han, and anakin ... even a certain extent obi wan after his series wasn't received well by most ... that pissed off a lot of fans and probably a good number of them have given up on the stars wars as a whole to be honest
if the sequel trilogy had been successful by having a legit plan and didn't "disrespect" the core characters of this film universe from the first six movies, i think there would be a ton of excitement for non skywalker star wars films in the future ... not sure that's the case now and going forward
i think the skywalkers were star wars for a lot of fans and to see what happened to those characters in the sequels angered so many to the point where i believe many fans who supported star was for 20, 30, or even 40 years have given up on the franchise as they didn't like what happened over the last 5-6 years really ever since after the force awakens and definitely are not thrilled with the way they view how this franchise is being handled and where this universe is heading from a creative standpoint
if disney or kennedy thought they could get by or do without the die hard star wars fans who have been supporting this franchise for decades and they could be replaced by newer and younger fans who liked or grew up on these sequels films ... imo they're in for a rude awakening in the future

I'd like to express my respectful disagreement with your viewpoint on moving away from the Skywalker storyline. The prospect of advancing the storyline by a significant span, whether it be 10, 20, or an ambitious 100 years or more, presents an exciting opportunity. And so moving beyond Luke, yes I can agree. A time leap offers a chance to explore new horizons within the Star Wars universebbeyond the 70s characters.
But, the idea of maintaining a connection to the illustrious Skywalker bloodline adds a layer of complexity and depth to the narrative, reminiscent of the captivating sagas found in Greek mythology or the intricate histories of noble families, with their lineages stretching across countless generations.
By extending the timeline, we open the door to fresh story arcs, character developments, and unforeseen challenges that can breathe new life into the beloved Star Wars galaxy. This evolution allows us to delve into the legacy of the Skywalkers in a way that pays homage to the rich traditions of epic storytelling, while also forging a path into uncharted territories of creativity and imagination.

I partially agree with point 2. A Lando movie could still be great if done right. The Acolyte could be going in a new direction, again if done right. But let’s not forget that going forward currently doesn’t work as well on Star Trek as catering to nostalgia does. Nostalgia also worked extremely well for The Mandalorian, season 1.
I only partially agree with point 3. Rogue One and Andor worked very well without Jedi.
I totally agree with point 4. But isn’t Zack Snyder currently doing that? 😉
I absolutely agree with point 5.

Have a plan? Absolutely! It feels like EVERYTHING wrong with the Sequel Trilogy was down to the complete lack of any sort of coherent overarching plan/storyline. And while we're at it, instead of completely "giving" over these projects to individual writer/directors like Abrams or Johnson or Waititi, who might not cherish specific elements of the Star Wars mythology or care about what's coming next, why not employ a core group of writers to develop the direction of the franchise moving forward and just employ directors-for-hire to film them (like Lucas had for ESB and ROTJ)?

They need to get Sam Witwer and Hayden Christensen together and do the Starkiller storyline. Vader having a secret apprentice is just too entertaining to ignore, and If I’m not mistaken, Starkiller is a major player in the foundation of the Rebel Alliance and thus, a pretty important character in the cannon, and it would be stupid not to tap into something that fans really, really want to see.

    • @TheRealdealdude2

I think they should adapt The Force Unleashed as well, but it probably can’t be canon if they’re gonna tell it exactly how the game was, cause Starkiller really was too powerful. He was whooping Vader ass 😂 If they do make it canon however he would have to be killed off like in the game, and not adapt that second one. Trust me I want that too… but it’s tricky!

They also need proper fight choreographers, action directors and train the actors prior to shooting the film/show like what they did for The Matrix 1-3. Lightsaber fights are one of the main draws of this franchise, but they're still moving like it's the 70s and 80s in the live action content.
Even if the story's bad, you can still scrape by if you have great fight scenes.
People slammed the heck out of the writing in the prequel trilogy, Matrix 2 & 3, John Wick 2-4 etc. but they enjoyed the heck out of the action in the movies. Great action scenes will work wonders.

People always want so much to happen in each episode. What's with the desire for such fast pacing? It is usually a disaster. It's a cardinal rule in writing a narrative: if you know for sure where your story is going, then take your time to get there. Take your reader on a journey. Rushed narratives, especially for television, are usually a disaster. Remember seasons 7 and 8 of GOT? The best series take their time to unfold over seasons, not a season. This was a magical episode and truly felt like Star Wars being reborn with Ahsoka's character development.

They're not great but they're still good. I don't need a lightsaber duel where they're just spinning blades like idiots all day. Makes them not look like warriors but typical nerds who think flashy moves equals a real fight. A real duel is slow, precise and doesn't require gazillion spins. I loved the prequel fights but some of the movements were just soectale and nor substance. This incorporates some flashiness but precise cutting and stabbing movements. This incorporates some flashiness but precise cutting and stabbing movements.
      acescher9011 quote-
@Thiago_Alves_Souza Please look at the Duel of Fates in EP1 or even the final fight between Dooku, Obi-wan, Anakin, and Yoda. The only time you ever really see the crazy twirling and such is the final fight between Obi-wan and Anakin in EP 3 and that is cause they were supposed to be using the same lightsaber form to fight each other. It is also a bit laughable you saying a real duel is slow and precise. It is as if you have never watched fencing or even a kendo match. While there is a precision component they are far from being slow. As I said the choreography for the fights in this episode were done very poorly.
      @Thiago_Alves_Souza quote-
@acescher9011 Kendo is a sport bruh I'm talking real life duels. Read historical manuals about how even European and Asian sword fights took place. Yes I was referring more to episode 3 final fight. I did enjoy Count Dooku a lot because Christopher Lee was a real life fencer and the movements in those are actually comparable to this more than episode 3 Battle of Heroes Watch Episode 1 and 2 duels and watch this one.

    Acolyte (pre Episode 1)
    Obi Wan (post Episode 3)
    Andor(Pre Episode 4)
    Mando(post Episode 6)
    ReyShow(post Episode 9)
I have no idea whe Asoka is set as I thought it spun of Mando which has jedi Luke but I see screenshots of Anakin which would be pre Episode 3, add to this the Rebels back story I have no idea about, I am completely lost.
With the MCU Evey series and movie is a starting point that assumes no prerequisite knowledge, Star Wars need to do this or make recap shows like Game of thrones used to.

Include the Jedi? Yes - but with some caveats; I still think there's plenty of scope for stories that don't include the Jedi - but it's also clear that the Jedi are in many ways, Star Wars' USP and should be a huge part of the direction forward. But I will say this - and people are free to disagree with me on it: the Jedi (as we know them) are kind of boring and could do with freshening-up. The whole concept of them being super-serious, super-thoughtful, CELIBATE warrior-monks doesn't exactly make for endless, fun storytelling opportunities and there's going to come a time when lightsabre duels lose their appeal. If you like your Jedi all serious and orthodox, then there is plenty of scope to make stories about them that are set before the Prequel Trilogy. But if the next movie is about Rey setting up a new Jedi Academy and trying to carry-on the old Jedi ways, then I think it will be a mistake. Why show us what happens to Force-users when they are NOT forced to adhere to the old Jedi dogma - or even maybe change the nature of the Force in some way, so that Jedi have different powers?

We need new stories, romance, small scale events that affects maybe one town, one planet not the entire universe. AND NO MORE bringing people back to life!!! Bringing back Maul was the mistake that brought us zombie Palpatine. I know a lot teens want Ben Solo back, but please Disney DON"T! Let the dead RIP.

Luke is acting like obiwan while palpatine is still acting like himself even though snoke has been running things. The final scene has just rey, luke, and leiah together even though rey wanted to make up with her parents, and luke and leiah wanted to make up with kylo.

one thing that would be much appreciated is if they didn’t set everything in the same time period. It’s either post episode 3 or after return of the jedi. Nothing has been set in the prequel era nor did anyone bother making a show or movie or game closer to the sequel era. If they did that maybe they could actually improve on that time period like how clone wars increased interest in the prequel era. If everything is set in the same time period a lot of content feels quite samey. Also it’s crazy that that many of the new characters are simply not that interesting except for mando and cal kestis. I’d love it if Cal was actually in a show or a movie. I don’t know what they’ll do though for the third game. The obvious choice is to kill off cal but that seems very predictable at this point.

Mainstream audiences have lost interest in the franchise, so you need to cast top tier A-list actors to attract regular people back to it. Maybe casting Denzil Washington as an older Finn, Brad Pitt, Keano Reeves, Matt Damon, Michael B Jordan, Will Smith, Bale or Di Caprio who have all said they are huge Star Wars fans growing up and would love to be in a Star Wars film. A big all star ensemble would create buzz and get interest in this dying franchise.
Real representation not tokenism. Where there are powerful characters of colours who are not just side characters not doing anything cool. Star Wars has very low interest with people of colour in general because it is viewed as white people franchise because it is story based on Asian culture and religion but all the important story characters are white or white passing. It is 2023, you are not going to be a massive hit without people of colour being interested. Let’s have some lead Jedis who aren’t white for once. When Star Wars has massive following among alt right groups because they feel it guarantees white heroes, that tells you something about the lack of real representation in the franchise.
Stop focusing on the nostalgia of the original movies and just let the skywalkers die. That tactic has been overused. Star Wars is meant to be a Galaxy, it feels like a single block with the same characters turning up in every show.
Age up with your audience. There are several generations of adult Star Wars fans who have more mature tastes, make more adult Star Wars content and less kid focused movies. The kids will have the older movies and cartoons to watch, if they want to make money they need to stop adults not caring about Star Wars and make movies and shows aimed at them. I think Andor ruined Mandalorian because once we saw what an grown up Star Wars looked like it was difficult to get back into the kids stuff again.
Plan and write compelling stories and movies. Stop with nostalgia play of the old trilogy or the Filoni universe that regular people have zero interest in. Follow all these steps and Stars will stop being a dead franchise

Unfortunately, the *”suits” start to push for quantity over quality* and things go to shit. With Star Wars they’re going to milk the characters from the original trilogy until it’s a joke.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Star Wars prequel trilogy but George Lucas’ creative vision held those films together. In contrast, with the *recent Star Wars Sequels* we have JJ Abraham for films 1 and 3 and Rian Johnson for film 2 with “suit” Kathleen Kennedy as the consistent presence across all film. That’s the opposite of Warner Brothers who had the foresight to *allow Christopher Nolan to make all three Batman films.*
Netflix Marvel was “water cooler” conversation at work. Everyone in my team signed up to Netflix because Daredevil was so good. **Head of Marvel Television and Writer Jeph Loeb** had the vision to bring "Marvel Street-Level Heroes" to streaming. Unfortunately, Disney Marvel just pump out mediocre superheroes tv shows with the nebulous promise that it’s all related to a future film.
Pixar’s biggest IP, *Toy Story* predates acquisition Disney. Pixar was initially a breath of fresh air in animation with films like Toy Story, Finding Nemo and *Incredibles.* Now Disney are running Toy Story into the ground, and I’m sure there’s a mediocre Incredibles 3 in the pipeline.

    • @vincentd.2284

@@realityshifter3399 That is what Lucas said WAY later, after he had retconned a bunch of stuff to fit with his shitty prequels. But you'll notice that Lucas is highly inconsistent in his comments on the SW lore. Over the years, he kept flipping around and contradicting himself about how many episodes he had planned or wrote, when an idea came up, etc.
The fact is lucasfilm marketed the Thrawn trilogy as canon when it came out. It remained that way until some what was in the EU became inconvenient for Lucas' prequels.
Also, if the standard to determine what is canon is based on Lucas, noneof the Disney movies/shows are canon. So your point is moot.
In any case this is all beside the point.
My point was that for decades the deep lore and history of SW came from the EU. The 'vastness' of the SW universe that Campea was refering to in his vid didn't really come from Lucas all that much (for example, the timeline of the galaxy's history never came from Lucas; he is not a worldbuilderl). Most of the lore got fleshed out in the EU.
So torching the EU like Disney did is quite stupid since all you are doing is cutting yourself from the 'vastness' of the universe and the many story path it holds.
Another example of EU canon that Lucas drew on: Kashyyyk, the planet of the Wookies that we see in the prequels. Yep, it came from the EU...

      @@realityshifter3399 Ignoring the quote again?
Here are a couple of other quotes, for good measure:
"Canon -- confusing sometimes. Basically, everything except those items marked with an "Infinity" logo (i.e. the Star Wars Tales comics) is considered canon. There is a hierarchy -- the movies, novelizations, radio dramas come first. Then everything else. If something in a novelization contradicts the movies, then we defer to the movies. IE, the ROJ novelization says that Obi-Wan and Owen Lars were brothers. This wasn't in the movie, and has since been discounted. Maybe it was a cover they used at one point... who knows." Sue Rostoni, Lucasfilm
"The concept of an Expanded Universe certainly isn't unique to Star Wars. Many popular genre properties, from Star Trek to Alien, release spin-off tales that shed light on events not seen in the "official" narrative. But the Star Wars EU is unique in both in its size and in the care with which its narrative is shepherded and organized. In Star Wars, the Expanded Universe is official, albeit on a slightly lower level - sometimes called C-canon - than the absolute authority of the six Star Wars films." Daniel Wallace, "The Essential Expanded Universe", Star Wars Insider 101, May 6, 2008.
Again, if we apply your standard, nothing is canon except the Lucas' 6 films. And then, you somehow switch standard when Disney comes on board, where suddenly everything becomes canon for you.
Don't you realize that the Disney movie also contradict the Disney books essentially in the same way that the Lucas movies sometime contradicted the EU books. Basically, nothing has changed in terms of canon hierarchy. Disney just decided to scrap the old lore, so they can sell you new books/comics and other contents (that they fully own).
