I definitely love Disney's recent (small) shift toward other kinds of love than romantic. Like the love between friends and family. This mother/daughter relationship is probably my favorite of all the new Disney films.
I love love love that they went with family love instead over that "we met once, I was asleep yet we still fell madly in love and he is one and only true love for me" from the original - I love that it's Maleficent that breaks the curse and that Phillip feels bad for kissing her when she is asleep and that they end up building their relationship over time instead of them being madly in love in 5 minutes and being married the next day.
The biggest reason I love Maleficent is because it doesn't automatically turn towards the generic prince and princess story. It focuses on family love instead. It's beautiful and refreshing
Wrong, the original focused on family love, because the young man and the young woman find true love and get married and have children. Malificent in the original story is the bitter forever-alone man-hating feminist that hates the loving family and out of bitter envy curses them. Instead they turn the evil one into the hero, and make out all males to be infected with "toxic masculinity". Maleficent isn't her mother, and her true family are shown to not be loving here. This is again more Disney propaganda putting down the nuclear family unit and replacing it with man-hating feminist ideology but dressed up so beautifully that people don't realize how bad the message is.

The other two are painted in a positive light and one of them serves as the conscious of the female lead. Of the six women in this movie, half of them are painted as incompetent morons, one does something evil and the then the last one never involves herself in the story. Only one of the female characters is fully innocent. So to call this movie feminist propaganda is to ignore half of the characters. The story is more about innocent bystanders becoming victims in the cycle of violence, evil doers becoming the victims of their own sins, the need for forgiveness and redemption.

I hate live remakes of animated classics, I hate traditional stories turned upside down like the "misunderstood" villain trope etc, that said this is a masterpiece of storytelling, a true work of art, just absolutely beautiful. One of those increasingly rare works of art that truly touches your heart.
Maleficant and its sequel are my favourite Disney movies now because instead of the CLICHE of True Love HAS to be between a girl and her future husband via love at first sight? It's a Truer kind of love, that between a Mother and her Daughter. NO LOVE is more true than that, and videos like this highlight that bond between them.

I love both Maleficent movies! Maleficent is my favorite character in the whole Disney franchise and I love the sequel too. It shows how far Maleficent's character transformation has come between being evil and having her heart broken💔 by a friend that she trusted to finding love in the middle of her pain.
