The best thing about John is his admittance of growing up.. I remember seeing an interview a time where he said he can't write like he's 19 because he isn't 19 anymore... He's grown and makes no apologies for being mature and changing.. The worst thing is seeing a 50 year old singer trying to sing like he's still in his twenties.. The Goo's are not sell outs, they have changed because the have grown and John is amazing as a songwriter and singer...

When you think about it, punk was originally about having no rules, no dress code, etc. But today is proof that 'punk' isn't punk anymore (hasn't been for decades, to be honest) and it's about conformity. walk into a punk bar and it's like a halloween party, everybody in their punk costumes trying to 'outpunk' each other. And yes, there are those in their 50's and 60's still playing their 'punk games'. And then there's Green Day...

I love John and the Goo Goos, but I have to disagree with his comment "Punk Rock is for kids." The Ramones played Punk Rock well into their 40s, Green Day are also in their 40s and still play Punk Rock music and although the guys in U2 are in their 50s, they came from a scene where Punk expolded and seeing bassist Adam Clayton wear a Sex Pistols shirt during their last tour, it looks like Punk Rock music is still a genre much loved by 50 year old men. To be fair, the fact that John and the Goos willingly chose to alter their sound and be unapologetic about it has a lot of respect from me. Still, sorry John, but Punk Rock ISN'T "just for kids".
Green Day were/are the most childish thing that ever happened to punk: they single-handedly ushered in the 'fisher-price punk movement' that brought us Blink 182, Sum 41 and the rest of that nonsense.
