Just watched the entirety of this dance and the judges feedback. I’m not a strictly fan, but to see these two guys dance was so affirming, uplifting and powerful that it brought me to tears. If the 13 year old me had seen this in the 1980s I would have not felt so isolated and alone in the world. Here’s hoping that there are people out there who never have to feel that way that I, and so many others, did. xx

I love Johannes he is a beautiful dancer. I have a son who is so much like him it makes me smile. So sorry you had to feel so alone. To many people pass judgement on others lives, I tell my son, they only judge yours, because there to scared to judge there own lives, and judge themselves.

My son 13, recently came out to me and his sister and I am so overjoyed- however it scares me. In our family he is loved and nothing changes. However outside my four walls I can’t always protect him.
This SCD partnership is one of the moments I thank God for.
As we see more loving, accepting, NORMALIZATION of same sex couples in mainstream media…. It will seem less and less “different, taboo, or morally wrong”.
Thank you Johannes for helping this proud momma expand her four walls of protection.
Bless you. I guess it is easier now than ever to be gay, but that doesn't mean it is easy. Good luck, but I guess the worry will be ongoing, but with kids it always is.

Yes, the Italian version feels dumb too. It's like the baking show, something about British TV make those shows better. Maybe it's the lack of manufactured drama 💙
I'm brazilian and watch both dwts us and scd since like 2007. Dwts used to be better but since like 4 years ago, scd is winning by miles in entertainment and better dances. The scd pro dances are fantastic, couple dances are longer than dwts us, and even the production factor - that used to be the highlight in us - is more interesting on scd nowadays.

The BBC should stop all this political correctness nonsense. The majority of viewers do not like it and viewing figures back it up.
They should of danced with a female ice skater then they would not of had a hard time. The public do not like all this political correctness pushed on us. The gay minority have to learn the majority do not like it.
Everything here was on point. The power of Johannes and John. The amazing sampling of the Blue Monday synths with the track played perfectly by the band. The drama of the lighting. This has to be one of the strongest week 1 dances ever. It feels like we are watching more than just a 'celeb trying to dance', it's genuinely moving.
The whole production of this from the choreography, to the costumes, to the lightning... Everything was spot on. Fantastic dance!
Wow! I know this partnership is garnering attention as a same-sex couple in the context of breaking down barriers and prejudice against LGBTQ+ people but I really hope that this breaks down barriers regarding what a dance partnership 'should' be as well. This added a whole new dynamic to the tango and I loved every minute.

I was watching this with my 80+ Nan, who was not thrilled about this pairing at first but let me tell you we both absolutely loved this!
It was powerful, inspiring and sexy. By far my favorite of the evening Can’t wait to see their next dances!
This has to be one of my favourite pieces of music for a tango.

@@daisybuttercup6801 John 'Whaite'. The Tango has been around for 140 years, and it originally started as a dance for 2 men, so it's actually more authentic than a male/female couple. It's a shame that 140 years later, people still have your mentality about 2 men dancing.

Literally, this and a few other dances this week made me feel like I blacked out and woke up in a much later week. They're that good.
I thought John was a little bit behind at times, but it was still very good. Solid 7.
You obviously no nothing about dancing there where at least two dances that where far above the others and the same sex dance was not one of them.

For me, best dance of the night! The attitude was definitely there! The traveling and the technique and be in-synch with the music was impeccable. I loved it soo much. Definitely gonna be Johannes breakout year!

The whole dance was captivating, but the bit at the end where they did the quick steps in sync with the music is just brilliant.
This Tango is powerful and had the attack. Such a clever routine too with switching leads! I cannot wait for them to do Paso Doble cos I can just see the same quality! excited for their other dances too!! Well done boys!

I come from a family of dancers actually and know what I am talking about. I spoke with several friends that are dancers and the all said the same thing the dance was average. The judges are reluctant to speak the truth for fear of a backlash from the loony left.

I had to watch this with my 81 year old Mother who was huffing and puffing about 'two men dancing together: Isn't it awful?!' Growing up in the post WWII years, I asked her if two WOMEN didn't dance together at tea dances and who she thought men danced with, on Active Service in the Armed Forces. She saw my point.....Thanks for the upload 👍👍👍
You want to tell her that without men dancing together, you wouldn't even have the tango. At the time the dance was created, Argentina had a population that was more stacked to men. Bc there were not that many women to dance with, the only way men could learn was by doing it with other men. Fathers taught sons and so on. Its literally a male/male originated dance

Things were different for that generation so I hope people won't be thinking badly of her. My mum is about the same age. They didn't talk about sex, periods or anything else even remotely touching on the subject. Certain cancer's weren't referred to. Everything was taboo. My mum was a married woman and when she had her first child, she was marched off to the church to ask forgiveness for her 'sin' of carnal knowledge! It's interesting that my father didn't have to ask forgiveness... Anyone who makes flippant comments should try to imagine what it's like for a young girl starting her period to be bustled off as if it were a dirty secret. Or not to even know where babies come from. This elderly lady isn't trying to be offensive and in actual fact to have reached her age and still be able to change the way she thinks is an achievement in itself
I don't watch strictly but my 84 year old Nan does. She sent me here to watch them because she loves them and votes for them every week. She even said if they are voted off early she's not watching anymore 😂

It was so refreshing for John to say it's all about the dancing and not make a big deal about it being a same sex couple. He backed that up with this performance and Johannes created a very strong routine. I thought it was fantastic.
Partnership, is shouldn’t, it really has not to be the male and female stereotype that the world has and continues to follow.

I think this is where dancing on ice went wrong with their same sex partnership. They made it too much about the fact it was two men together rather than the actual skills and performances

And this is why johannas is my favorite pro dancer hes such a wonderful teacher and new he'd be able to turn john into an amazing dancer this was my favorite performance of the night and I can't wait to see what they do next

In Germany's version of strictly (Let's dance, where Motsi is a judge for years) we had a male/male couple last season which was an amazing pairing and made it 3rd place.
A few seasons back we had a female duo on the show, also a deaf contestant who did really well with his pro partner! 🧡 🧡
Ya, same here in Ireland about 2 years ago (2 ladies)now because of covid it was postponed.
I watched them on the show’s website, Nicolas and Vadim, they were incredible and one of my favorite couples on any country’s version!

@@ifeelpretty5790 I love the pro dancer Vadim since he first joined the show in Germany (he's Austrian and as far as I know he's on Strictly Austria too). He's such an amazing dancer, great personality also. And Nicolas, he's the sweetest guy - and turned out to be a super dancer!

That was spellbinding. Only watch on youtube so don't know who they are, so it was tricky to work out which one was the professional dancer. I had to look it up! Deserve to be top of the leaderboard with that performance. I've watched them all and that was the best dance of the night for sure.

When I was growing up, the only out gay couple on mainstream TV was Christopher Biggins and his husband, bumbling their way through a novelty episode of Mr & Mrs, a show that, at its core, was for “normal” straight couples.
No wonder I didn’t come out until I was 18, and still feel a bit abnormal in society to this day.
It is so important, not to just have visibility in the media, but RELATABLE visibility in the media. John and Johannes are such bastions of creativity and inclusivity, and if they’d been on Strictly, the biggest show on British TV, when I was 10, life would have been so much easier.
Gay kids these days have genuinely fantastic role models in those two to remind them that it’s definitely okay to be different.
Also, this routine was badass in every wonderful way possible. Dressed like bouncers, dancing to trance which the orchestra pulled off beyond excellently (much better than that godawful Shake It Off rendition 😂), serving passionate, raw, sour realness that was well worth those 7s and 8s.

I think the rendition of Shake it off may have deliberately been done like that to help Rose as she is deaf (the crowd was silent during it too, again to help Rose, which would've made it sound different to the others for us)

You're so right, Joe! I totally get where you're coming from. For someone in their early 50s, with only Larry Grayson (you might have to look him up 😁) as a relatable person, my view of people like myself was very skewed. John and Johannes wanted this to be about the dancing, which it is, but it also has a knock-on effect as far as being another positive role model for people to relate to, and it breaks down barriers. I'm so glad that they're getting the (mostly) positive praise that they deserve ❤️

Breathtakingly dynamic, visually stunning, wow what an opening routine! Judges what are you missing, this was by far the best dance of the evening. Don't forget it's much harder for a male to lead or at least some of the time in this routine!
