This whole process is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve paid into social security / FICA for 26 years and that should count for something.
I was laid off in 2015 and have spent the time since then as a stay home dad. I had no intention of trying to file for SSDI until I got Covid this past January. As a result, I appear to have developed a pretty serious heart problem from it, as well as developing depression as a result of the fact that I can no longer effectively perform my duties around the house, or anything else that requires any kind of effort. There is absolutely no way that I would be able to work a job of any kind at this point. Hell, I have to sit down and take a break just walking down my driveway to take the trash to the curb, or the five steps going upstairs to use the restroom.
I’m just wondering if attempting to go through this whole process is even worth the effort. Maybe I should start a company building crappy electric cars, or maybe some rockets. The government doesn’t seem to have a problem doling our tax payer dollars for that kind of stuff.

We are sorry to hear about what your mother is going through. Without knowing her situation we cannot give advice on what you should do. There may be other programs she could be eligible for. You could start by speaking to the caseworker. They may have more information.
