Western Wanderer Route 13: The Hoover Dam & Highway 93 (Nevada to Kirkland Junction, Arizona)

- After finding out that dogs aren't allowed on the Hoover Dam and walking over the memorial viewing bridge instead (we had permission) we got onto US Highway 93. Commence the long, busy road walk! This stretch was surprisingly beautiful and relaxing, having a large shoulder and the capacity to carry lots of water made a big difference. I enjoyed stopping at almost every gas station between the state line and the State Highway 97 turn off along with binge-listening to podcasts about Princess Diana and the OJ Simpson Trial.
A big thank you to the members of the Arizona Highway Patrol for checking on us and being so friendly as well as the folks that left some apples on the road.
Also note: Prima and Skittles are wise to many of my techniques at this point. If they lag behind in shots it’s likely because they know I’m filming then and think it’s dumb. Sometimes Prima does get sore feet, and we then take time off, but usually it’s just them being too smart.

Many times I've driven between Phoenix and Hwy 96/93 to Las Vegas but I have not explored the off roads (my favorite adventures now that I can no longer do difficult hikes). So happy to see you posting videos again!
Seems like a really tough stretch. Think I would have sat down and cried when the wheel went bad. Hope the next stretch is better. Beautiful music choices for this video!
I actually enjoyed it overall, the only part that made me cry was when the shoulder disappeared on highway 93. Fortunately I realized that it only disappeared on the Northbound side. Still not sure why that was.
The good news is I was planning to send the cart home at Kirkland Junction anyways and that last stretch would not have been conducive to the cart since there wasn't a shoulder to drive it on.
@@TheMostImportantStep Oh good, I'm glad it wasn't too bad overall
You are very brave walking through such a dry desolate place. Personally I enjoy my forests, trees and streams or rivers. I think I would go nuts in a desert place. I really admire you and your dogs. Well done. What happened to the stroller? was the wheel that bust not reparable with maybe duct take or similar? Just curious.🥰
Why thank you! I really enjoy desert hiking as it is very beautiful, rewarding, and has such a rugged feel. That said, there are certainly challenges.
I was actually planning to send the stroller home at Kirkland, so decided to just cache it and walk that last 50 or so miles without it. Really it worked out because there wasn't a shoulder along state highway 97 & 96 so it was easier to walk without it. The good news is that I signed up for the warranty, so sent it home and will be getting replacement tires.
Praying mantis are so big in Arizona that they tore the legs of hikers :). Seems you got some sunburns on the nose and hears
Too bad for the stroller wheel but you push it to the limit not covered by the guarantee. Did you ditch it?
Thanks, for those really nice shots as always.
I was planning to send it home at Kirkland anyways, so I ended up caching it about 50 miles early then picked it up later.
The good news is the wheels are easy to remove and are covered by the warranty. Just need to pay shipping for the new ones.
@@TheMostImportantStep Good news.
Don't show the video to the company, they will argue it's for toddlers and not for dogs and void the warranty 🤫. I think you got a new one since October.
@@qanniqtuqit’s actually a dog specific stroller!
@@TheMostImportantStep Okayyyy. Well they need to improve it 😁
How did you get rabies?
I accidently used a bat as a pillow for a good chunk of one night.
Wow! That must have been scary! On a side note, how could I donate to your next adventure?
Mostly it was just annoying because it kept squeaking next to my head. I like critters so thought the bat was pretty adorable when I found it. The anxiety didn’t start until after I let it go and realized the ramifications!
Oh gosh! I’m not sure to be honest. I guess I’m always looking for freelance writing projects if you know of anything?
I don't know what to say bcuz I do strongly dislike
AZ !!!!. It has a few things like all states do.... It's just so much more to dislike 😢.
But I comment any way to support the channel with a thumbs up 👍🏼😎
From a geographic standpoint it really is an incredibly scenic state. I was fortunate to have family there and also encountered lots of nice strangers along the way.
