I will say it's endemic of the financial demographics dictating to engineering how and why they should design things a certain way. The original owner of this vehicle was a very high net individual, so a $10k repair is inconsequential. This is why I run my W212 E350 as a daily instead of the big TT V8 cars. Less power/prestige, but damn has it been reliable and cheap to maintain. MB definitely tiers their Engineering to the demographics of their buyers. A $50k car buyer is different than a $250k car buyer.

Obviously a year late, but I have heard of major repairs like this being hard to check. My cousin had a big repair on his SLS AMG and knew he was planning to sell it, so he had a a small engraved plaque made noting the major repairs and the dates/mileage completed. He then had his mechanic bolt it onto a structural piece under the hood so that it's removable later but is there for the next owner.
When he sold it, he included documentation in the glovebox with links to RUclips videos showing the repair before and after. Helped drive the value up on the SLS and gave the new owner some peace of mind.

Can the next video be the installation of the other head, cam and turbo + putting everything back together and giving us a first start of this mighty engine? I honestly can't wait hearing it cranking over!!!

Nice tip to guide the head straight on the cilinder block, is to cut of the head of two old head bolds and use them as guides.

Great job as usual. Love having my kids help too. Doesn't speed things up, but helps them learn and we bond.

Very clean work. “Triple check everything” I love it that’s what I do on every project I perform.
Always have been that way being an aircraft mechanic. I work on Mercedes for people when I can and own them as well.

Nice job including the kids Alex! I work on my truck with the kids. Yes. It takes longer and you have to bring some extra patience but the kids are better for it.

When I interned at Honda there was a technical suggestion from one of the engineers, I guess part of their process of improvement was to elicit ideas from the team, was to use stretched one time use bolts for their heads. It was not accepted. Though a second suggestion that they quantify and improve the sound of the door closing was.

He’s got some balls to just insert the bolts with the impact gun. Even if they were spotless, I wouldn’t even try an impact gun

I love the cleanliness, accuracy, step-by-step process. Maybe I am OCD. Well done Alex. She's gonna purr, growl, and roar to better than factory specs!!

The toughest part of being a dad is when you have to train your children. It takes 1 hour to do something that would normally take 15 minutes. Thanks for the Manscape hookup.

That’s cool that your son wants to work with you at such a young age. Just imagine how good of a mechanic he will be by the time he’s a teenager if he sticks with it.
