Rest in peace Rocco he was the tightest.bass player who layed down.a solid funky soulfull groove. Rocco's bass playing.lives on it's like driving a classic car just unforgettable man.
i follow the band since the beginning, it inspired me to pick up the alto sax at 4th grade. jr high and high school i play the Baritone sax. Rocco you will be dearly missed. my deepest condolence to the family and the band. RIP
Man I'm crushed. i learned bass listening and copying rocco when i first heard t.o.p back in jr high .what a unique player. theres is NO bass player like him.NONE! funkiest bass player on the PLANET.
Had the great pleasure of meeting Francis Rocco Prestia when he and TOP vocalist Eddie Magee hosted jam sessions at a bay area club in the eighties. He had a fender p bass without volume or tone controls on it and as I was holding it , I realized this just may be a bass that many TOP hits were recorded on . Thanks so much for this interview with truly one of the most influential favorites .
First saw TOP in 1970. A teenager sneaking into clubs. It is amazing what lot of make up, mini skirts and heels will do. I saw them many, many times. It wasn't until I was older did I realize how amazing Rocco was.
Interesting interview. Rocco is one of a kind... He's right, the best music came from 67 - 72 ;-) Would like to know how his ghosting technique works and how he came upon it. Certainly hope his health holds out.
According to Rocco, it came from the ghost notes that David Garibaldi was playing, it was just his way of adapting in order to sync with the drum groove.
RIP great master

He was wild in his younger days but how could you not like this guy? Pretty dam humble and straightforward for a legend!
