That's amazing, 20 is still a high capacity for a pistol today! Of course it's hard to find something that makes you look at an M712 (or other high-capacity Mauser) and say "It's much more easily handled!" because this gun is clunky as anything. That said, it's beautiful, it looks like the Dwarves from Skyrim/The Elder Scrolls made it.

there are very fine pores visible on the grip scales, so those and all the black stuff on the accessories are in fact carved very high quality ebony, not molded hard rubber/ebonite or plastic. you can mostly see the pores as longitudinal shiny streaks on the smooth rim of the grip scales, and a little as dimples on the endgrain at the grip's butt end. it's typical for very high quality ebony to have the pores in its heartwood fully filled in with a hard black resin that is visible as shinier than the wood if the wood is finely sanded or lightly worn.

Not only is it an example of an engineering feat, but it's also a work of art. I could never fire that gun, it's just too damn pretty. That's a display piece if I ever saw one. I love it.

When I saw the 2 barrels and the 2 parts on the hammer I thought gun would fire both barrels at the same time. However what it actually does is cycle between top and bottom barrels each time the hammer gets pulled back which I think is really cool. Kudos to the original gunsmith for that mechanical design choice it totally subverted my expectations in a good way.
