I just tried it. It sounds really good. I’ve spent hours tweaking it and I couldn’t get it right so your video was so helpful.
Also, is the difference in soundstage between the two headphones after using your suggested EQ very noticeable?

Why didn’t you post the frequency response charts before/after? You only showed us the before, I would’ve liked to see how close it matched up when retested

Hi Aaron! Greetings from The Philippines. Bought this headphones few days ago after I watched your review. All of the observation you have for this headphones is on point.
By the way, I already tried your settings and yes it is really sounded like XM4! I just pushed the bass to ULT 1 to give it some kick and it’s heaven. 😌

A high-end set of cans that requires an app to work should have nothing less than a 10 band EQ - Sony are being so cheap with their app support it's an embarrassment to the audiophiles out there who appreciate good sound.
I own a pair of the original Sony MDR-XB700 extra bass cans. Listening to them is like having 12 inch woofers strapped to your head - that's how damn good a proper 50mm driver is, not 40mm and not 30mm. It's a crying shame the folks at Sony have gone down the road where taking away features and support ruins the listening experience.
My downside with the XB700 is that it ain't portable being large and doesn't fold. But they are great for home use. I will be shopping some Audio Technica WP900 cans for on-the-go use and maybe add a headphone DAC since these do the 4.4mm jack for better sound. You should review these cans if you get the chance 👍👍

I don't get it ... aren't 40khz imperceptible for the human hearing, i thought we could only hear max of 20khz.
Or is it just sony's marketing?

    • @aaronloudnwireless
      @aaronloudnwireless  14 часов назад

Almost imperceptible. More in the realm of 'feeling' the sound instead of hearing

I finally got around to trying all in sequence in a store. I even tried playing a bit with the equalizers.
I'm essentially looking to replace a broken pair of M3s, and I'm a bit sad to have reached the conclusion that the XM4 is still the best overall NC headphones from Sony. But it's really not an easy choice, as the tradeoffs are many.
The M5s have superior NC. On release, the adaptive NC seemed unreliable and annoying, but it seems to me that this issue has now been fixed? However, they are too large (for my head, at least) on the smallest setting, and just slide off way too easily. They are by far the most comfortable to wear. Soft cushioning and don't put any pressure on my ears. But the sound... Is just a lot better on the M4, to my ears. The carrying case is huge.
The M4s just hands down have the best sound, in my opinion, and this is after playing around with the equalizer a lot on each of the three devices. The clamping force is okay for me, but can still slide off if I lie down while wearing them. As mentioned, the Noise-cancellation is not as great as the M5s, so that's a huge minus. They sadly touch my ears ever so slightly, which becomes irritating over time.
The Ult Wears seem and feel much cheaper than the M4s at close to a similar price-point. I really didn't like the sound, even after my best efforts fixing it with the equalizer. The sound is just too muddy. The earcups are nice and spacious, and I think the clamping force is probably okay, but the much worse cushioning material annoys me a bit. The noise cancelling is pretty good. Not too different from the M4s, in my opinion. Perhaps slightly better?
So the M5s are way more expensive, have a much larger carrying case, slide off my head, and have a worse sound profile than the M4s.
The M4s have subpar noise-cancelling ability, and the earcups put pressure on my ears.
The ULT Wears have a much worse sound than the other two to me.
All of this is to say, I desperately need Sony to get on with it and release the M6, which I hope will adopt the design and sound profile of the M4s, with better NC and and slightly roomier earcups. It really isn't much that Sony would have to change to satisfy my needs.
    Anyone else feel the same?
