I feel guilty catching up on my Tapatya videos on 10 December 2022, three months late, but thank you for the mention, Tony, and I'm glad you liked the book. More importantly, I'm so glad that you recorded that laugh at 13:37. I'm sure there were many others. All my best to you and your family.
Tony Tapatya is quickly getting to the stage of feeling the ocean beneath her planks and wow what a fantastic feeling of achievement that will be for YOU. As for when you talked about her going to the boatyard and how odd it will seem when looking out of your window and she's not there, just try to remember the first time you look out of your window early in the morning when you are partly awake and asleep at that moment try remember she's not been stolen but she's just in the boatyard 😂😖😉. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
Watch out for the old "Plum Overload" or maybe the "Plum Crazy" for Plum Jammies...ok that was sissy, but that's me, plum crazy minus the plums. Mast is making itself a clear winner over steel, no welding needed and the sanding fix has a place in the final picture, fantastic. Keep shining what needs shining!!!
hello Tony, this is my first time posting a comment, although I've been a subscriber from the very beginning! Congratulations on the progress so far. I like your music, the type of video design and also the tooltips. A little bit last for my taste too. Nevertheless, I feel super informed and entertained. Unfortunately I can't support your project financially, but every episode gets a thumbs up...! I'm looking forward to the first water test and keep my fingers crossed...
Motley collection of chisels! Best way for most things. Aye some things you buy a good all round set because the price is so good and you 'know' they'll get alot of use. However no one can afford to buy all the tools they'll ever need on day 1. Hell I couldn't forsee the names of most tools or what they even do, never mind knowing I'll need them so many years down the road. To echo other comments, it will be an end of an era when this build completes.
Wow Tony you must be very proud of that. I've followed this build from the lofting and thought how good can this be made from ply. This a quality boat on every level, the finish is superb and she looks so strong. Can't wait to see her in the water.
It looked like there was enough shavings and sawdust to make another mast or at least a large flagstaff. The main mast looks very good Tony. Getting very close to launch. I'm sure you will have a little bit of separation anxiety when Tapatya moves to the boatyard. Will feel like having your youngest finally leave the nest. Take care, stay well and have a good weekend ahead.
I thought maybe you had forgotten something until you mentioned that you were going to do a wire run for your Mast steps. However it does raise a question in that how are you going to deal with trapped water? Certainly you could seal it but there is a lot of motion and forces at the base and a seal may not last unless maybe a gasket?
There shouldn’t be any trapped water, Glenn. The mast steps have drain holes, the masts will stand on coins, as is traditional, any water should drain into the, admittedly shallow, bilge. I shall try my best to keep the bilges dry 👍
Fantastic job, as always, Tony! Watching how carefully you were checking the dimensions of the mast foot made me curious.. how snug of a fit are they going to be, in the mast-step sockets?
Thanks Garryck. Well, good question. They want to be tight enough to not move, but loose enough to come out freely when needed. We’ll see how that works out! 🤔👍
Thanks Willum. I’ve done a whole list of hands-on jobs, from auto tech, yacht fleet maintenance to property maintenance. I’ve taught design and tech, and various engineering-related stuff
Thank you for sharing. Your videos are always so instructive and something new learned. I am always so curious about overlapping fibreglass layers and how much overlap we should apply and how to deal with the resulting edge of the fabric on the surface on the mast. Why do you add fillers to the overlapping joint as you have mentioned at the beginning of the video? Is it to smooth out those raised edges after sanding?

Thanks Chris. You have nothing to feel guilty for 👍

Thanks Simon 👍😃
I will bet Shop Class is a lot like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, another great book.
There are parallels, Andrew 👍
Nike to see Karin back in the picture.
Hope her health is on the mend.
Thanks Jim !
As usual, exquisite craftsmanship. And your shop is always so neat and so clean.
Thanks Bob. Well…. 🤔
Absolutely awe inspiring! As I near retirement, I can see a much smaller boat project in my future.
I thoroughly recommend it, Gary 👍😃
very satisfying as always Tony , always makes a great break from the world , I almost hope she's never finished ..
Thank you David 😂👍
Fantastic job on that mast Tony, it’s hard to believe you made that, it is so long, beefy and straight!
Thanks Nena 😃😃

😂 Thanks Barton.
Yes, wood masts are also much lighter than steel would have been 👍😃

Yes indeed! 😃👍
From South Africa. You are doing a good job. Keep it up.
Thanks Mellie 👍😃
Can't wait to see the boat in the water UK
Thanks Wayne. Me neither 👍😃
Glad to have a break from the news today.
You do such a marvelous job. Prayers as always. 🙏❤️🇺🇸⛵️🇬🇧 for today.
Thanks Melinda.
Great job again 👍⛵️
Thanks Macgregor 😃
Going very well Tony, I think you are a Japanese saw convert - they are great for fine work.😀👍⛵️
Yes. I still think the handle could be redesigned, but the blade is excellent 👍.
As always, Tony, great workmanship! The main mast is coming out really beautiful. I liked the short minute with your lovely wife. Great video!
Thanks Dan 😃

Thanks JayElle. Appreciated 👍😃
I read that book and enjoyed it immensely having spent my life in design and construction.
👍
Getting there..."langsam aber mit gefühl"
Indeed!
I'm impressed by how well the masts have come out, the main mast looks huge!
Thanks Billy 😃

Speaking of never finished… when are you starting the dinghy? That should take another two years. Great work Tony!
Think I might buy an inflatable, Pat! 😃

Hi Tony
Great job on the masts I'm very interested in what your day job career has been ?
If you don't mind me asking
Cheers Willum
Yes, I'm curious as well, there must be some building influence in there somewhere.
Thanks Willum. I’ve done a whole list of hands-on jobs, from auto tech, yacht fleet maintenance to property maintenance. I’ve taught design and tech, and various engineering-related stuff

Thanks Joseph. Yes, exactly, it’s to fair the finished surface 👍
@@SVTapatya Thank you.
Does tapatya mean anything
Not to me, Rabs. I was looking for something that was unique and stumbled upon Tapatya 🤔👍
