Hey man, don’t talk yourself down, stick at it! You’ll be surprised at how you’ll progress, just stick with it man! Skating is what you make it! All the best brother! Keep at it!👍🏼😎
Awesome dude! Great to see someone taking up skating in their 30's! I'm 47 and skated most of my young life between 10 and 18... and have just bought an Andersen deck with the intent to get back into it. Thiking I'll defo need some wrist guards! :D
Yes man def pad up. If only for a while before you get back into the groove of things tho I always wear a helmet and usually wrist pads and knee pads to boot. The anderson deck is a great choice to get your sea legs back nice and wide with a fun shape. Glad to have ya back man enjoy skating is soo much fun!!!
Yo I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only old fart gettin back out there! 44 here and just about all saved up to put a new board together and get some proper pads. Definitely pad up my dude...remember we get up slower now and heal even slower 🤭😄
Haha, I'm 44, similar story. skated in my youth religiously. got older and life took over. bought an eskate longboard last year and enjoying the heck out of it, so this year I am buying one of these boards!! cant wait to shred again - with pads of course 🤣
Thanks for the review. I personally love this board. I'm on my fifth one in about three and a half years. One thing I think you may have been mistaken on is the whole "razor-tail". The graphic (paint) comes off easy on the drop ins, but it's not really "razor-tail". Now, if you are skidding to stops, yes, it will razor-tail a little quicker than wood because it's only five layers versus seven on a fully wooden deck. But the durability of these boards is incredible. The Flight decks do not chip when they slam into a wall as easily as all wooden boards. Also, getting griptape off and regripping these Flight decks is super easy because of the carbon fiber top layer.
Maybe I got a bad board. But that puppy razor tailed so bad after just a few montjs riding it could cut raw steak easily. I never had that problem with any other board I had. I also heard of a lot of other people having that problem as well. As far as strength goes the pop felt incredible for a long time. Didnt have any chips. Didnt feel soggy at all. I will def agree with you there. Also I dont skid to stop at all. Anyways its a great board glad you like it I def think theres better options out there for a lot less but if you got the money and love them then go for it. Just my opinion is all.
I started riding again last year at age 36 and I built a 8" Creature popsicle deck for tricks. After a few sessions and a few slams I realized maybe I jumped back in to fast. So I ended up building a cruiser using the 9" Andy Anderson flight deck like you have with Gullwing trucks, Bones 59mm rough riders wheels and Bones super swiss 6 ball bearings. I think the deck is excellent and feels nice and sturdy. Now I just cruise around trying to get my leg strength back.
I ran 56 mm rough rider wheels for a while but since I am so heavy they flexed so much. Now I am on 56 mm spitfire formula 4’s in a 97a and they are perfect. Grip nice but slide easy too. Glad your back man I am currently nursing a back injury at the moment being old sucks 🤣🤘.
I got the same board. It was a fun build. Indie six nines, hard-core bushings, reds big ball bearings, 56 slimeballs.. I mostly skate old school decks on transition so im used to having alot of board under me, but this was like driving a dang yacht, super heavy. I think I would have been happier with the 8.45. Hell, I know theres plenty of people who would shred with it. Just didn't suit me... Still an awesome deck and graphic though!!. Looks great on the wall after I tore it back down.
Speaking of Madness I’m thinking of getting the Ace Pelka deck from Arbor. That one was a different shape but those Madness decks really had cool shapes, designs and other odd things.
I was an 80's / early 90's skater. 48 and back at it for the last 2 years. Flight decks do feel pretty damn good under the feet I must say. I have a 'ban this' Caballero flight set-up and love it. Also a Moose blank fish shape deck set-up that has a great 80's deck feel. It's wide at 10" (widest point) but short at 30" which I like. It's a great option under 30 bucks. They also make a longer (33" I believe) transition deck that would be better for a taller person like yourself. Just a fyi. They're also cool being pretty cheap price that you don't mind tearing them up. Anyways keep skating!
I just bought the teal version, which I know is 7-ply, not Flight. I'm waiting on it now, and kinda nervous. The shape you know, and it's huge. But your review here has made me feal a little easy. I'm a big, older than you guy, and still trying to skate. I like your style mate. By the way, maybe I missed it, but what size Indy's have you got on there? I'm looking at Independent Winkowski Ballr Standard 159mm trucks. Do you reckon they would go alright on Andy's deck? Cheers heaps.
I got that deck too after this one and def liked it too. Doesnt ollie too well but is super fun for riding transition!! I rode indy stage 11 169’s on it. Was a sick board you will love it!!
I feel ya man. I'm 230 and I've had to get 98A cushions for my Indy trucks. Venture always feel good to me. I wonder if the 6.1s could go on that Andy Anderson deck.
I bet you could ride the 6.1’s fine on the andy board but I like my trucks on the wider side for that extra stability and honestly the indies I been riding are way looser feeling then my good ole ventures but I have grown so used to them think I may just stay on indys now. They feel much nicer in the bowl too!!!
Alot of people scrape the tail to stop when they are new to skating, but flight decks really are known to razor tail easily. I've owned 3 flight decks, due to being a fan of andy, and every one of them razor tailed almost immediately and I dont do grinds and I dont scrape my tail to stop. The board stays stiff in the middle forever, but the tail and nose flex and wear away. I had to put wood glue on them constantly to make the board last even a month Though, I couldnt talk myself into buying Andy's weird shape. I went with other pro flight decks size 8. I bought them because of Andy lol I'm amazed you dont run through bushings. Thunder trucks with hard hardcore bushings are the only thing that last for me and I weigh alot less than you. Then again, I skate freestyle technical sort of like andy. I need my board to be tight and responsive. Where as, it seems like you like to cruise. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just saying my experience my be a bit different since I demand alot out of my skateboards. Anyways, good day!
I agree the boards razor tail really quick. I am def more of a transition skater then anything else and def dont use my tail to stop and for sure they razor tail super fast. I def liked this board but will probably not get another one for a while anyway.
I'm 35 like 3 years in skating, just got that board! I use Indy's 144 F/H and nano cubics 56 haven't used it yet waiting to use up my old deck which is not that old xD
I heard it razor tails fast until it gets to your unique popping length and scoop points and then it's on its prime, like regular boards it wear out, this one wears in first
i have both versions of the deck, the 8.4 works great for me for flip tricks. that being said the shape is something to get used to. the nice part is its technically symmetrical. so get weird with it and try skating it backwards. nice video dude!
I’m 50 and always loved big boards never popsicle for me, growing up in the 80’s. I loved this big Powell Anderson on transition and park and a couple Bucky Lasek flights but still have them as riders but I tried the Santa Cruz Winkowski shape & now on my 3rd E.W. deck because it is my favorite shape going forward.#🛹❤️🤘🏻#🚫popsicledecks#PowellPeralta#SantaCruz
