Great video sir. Speedo in my 1967 vw bug is broken soon after it was replaced by my electrician. Now i want to fix it myself. You taught me a lot on how a speedo works. Thank you very much.
thank u so much, very well explained. I want to know that, is that spring who stops the needle at certain limit avoiding the needle to rotate? (just like the disk was rotating because no spring there.)
Without the spring to stop it that disk would spin round continuously. With the spring in place the further the spring is twisted the more it resists the turn so the amount it rotates is proportional to the speed of the magnet spinning.
Pleas tell me how to smooth my speed o meter needle ? I have some problem speed o meter needle quickly up and quickly down to zero what's we do to fix it
At 8:55 I noticed that the disk to which the needle is connected to only moves a certain distance then stops. However, in the example you showed us, the disk rotated a full 360 degrees. Do you have any idea why that happened? I think that it has to do with the weight distribution of the disk but I don't know if that's correct.
I am not sure what you are looking at. The cup that the needle is attached to does not rotate 360 degrees. It is rigidly attached to the needle and you don't see the needle spinning round 360 degrees do you?
@@GrandadIsAnOldMan Ya exactly! My question is: why it doesn't rotate 360 degrees like in your demonstration? It only goes to a certain point then requires more speed to turn further.
@@shokobata do you mean the metal disk I have suspended on the wooden frame? The cup in the speedometer with the needle attached is turning against the spring to give it resistance. That is why it needs more speed to turn further. You can see the spring at 04:19 if you look carefully. It is a flat spiral coil. I tell you about it at that point.
I had this issue before replacing my cables. And recently i went on for a replacement of speedometer drive gear&pin. Now both the cables and gears are good as new.
The temperature gauge and fuel gauge will be electrical, so your power is OK. The speed gauge and km will be mechanical. So I would guess your Bowden cable is broken. That is the flexible metal cable that goes from your gearbox or wheel into the back of the speedometer assembly.
@yogendrasinhparmar8626 In that case, you have a problem. The speedo will have been calibrated by the manufacturer to indicate the correct speed based on the rpm of the drive cable. The rpm of that cable is set by its gear linkages and is governed by the size of your wheels. Smaller wheels turn faster for the same speed on the road. They will have adjusted the tension of the detent spring to take this into account for the bike the speedo is designed to fit. You could try adjusting the tension of the detent spring, but as you have no way of calibrating it against a known speed, you will just be guessing and could make it worse.
I am not sure if this is the answer to your question. Jump to 05:28 and you can see the coil spring clearly. The drive from the motor or wheel spins a magnet. The magnetic field causes the cup attached to the speedo needle to spin. To stop it spinning right round it is attached to a spring so it is the torsion of the spring that determines how far the speedo needle will move compared to how fast the car or bike is moving.
+Mattson McCraw if you mean a computer fan attached to a bucket full of ice, then the answer is yes I could make one but no I am not going to. There are several videos on that subject on RUclips already and it is very rare that it is hot enough here to justify me making one.
+theguydraws thanks very much for your kind offer but I am not set up to accept gifts or donations and I already have more than enough to keep me going way into the future. I regularly donate my stuff to the charity shops that I visit.
Possibly because you have the wrong odometer 🤔🤔 Does it register the correct speed? If it is exactly 10 times the correct value, it could be two of the gears driving the individual number rings are stuck together, maybe some dust or grit stuck between them.
Assuming yours is basically the same construction as the one in the video, you can see how the gear drive works. The drive for the odometer is geared off the same drive that spins up the speedo 08:55 so IF the speed registered is correct, then it must be the right set up for your vehicle. If it is spinning the number disks too fast then like I said, it must be that some of the number dials are jammed together and being dragged round. I assume you are not getting confused by the 10th of a Km number dial.@@whiteunbox5978

The needle jerks while accelerating 0-45km after that it's quite normal. Would like to know any method to fix it.

I remember years ago having a problem with the speedo on my motorbike and that was the cable was frayed at one end and dragging in the sheathing.

Awesome video, thank you .
I’m trying to rebuild an old rusty Honda speedometer
Good luck!
I have a same speedometer and its needle vibrates when meter runs, can you elaborate the issue?
Nope, sorry. I just took it apart to look inside.
Thanku for explaining this
Thanks ! And I have a doubt , if I add a small weight say 5 gram , will it affect its spindle rotation??
Probably
@@GrandadIsAnOldManokayy ! thank you ☺️
how does an analog tachometer works spark plug signals, there are so many on after market.
I guess you will have to research that to find an answer. Maybe Google it.
Thank you sir this video just told me everything i wanted to know on speedometers
There is a way to do it 100% mechanically without any magnets or electrical inductance.
Sir my car omni ven 2014 model . Temperature cage working & fuel cage working. But speed cage and km number not working. Chenges metirial neme sir

Sir i have one speedo meter of suzuki swish 125 ,the problem is the cable rested and fixed inside the rotating part of the meter ,any idea to remove
I can only suggest using penetrating oil to release it over a period of time.
What bike is the spedo off?
As it says on the front of it - it came from an EVT Scooter
Here is the scooter ruclips.net/video/VYcWJ_xh4Lk/видео.html
My Speedometer shows 50 kmpl and when i changed the speedometer it shows 60 kmpl . What should be the problem??
Maybe it is the wrong speedometer for the bike.
@@GrandadIsAnOldMan no it is the same speedometer

Speedometer is locked its not rotating please suggest any idea
Could be the speedo cable is broken
I am not able to remove the needle on my speedometer. It seems glued permanently.
Why do you need to remove the needle?
Perfect explanation bro... Thnq
Thank you
Thank you very much sir, good explanation, i have never got this. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

what is spring in the speedo meter problem
I am not sure if this is the answer to your question. Jump to 05:28 and you can see the coil spring clearly.
The drive from the motor or wheel spins a magnet.
The magnetic field causes the cup attached to the speedo needle to spin.
To stop it spinning right round it is attached to a spring so it is the torsion of the spring that determines how far the speedo needle will move compared to how fast the car or bike is moving.
I had to do this with my 944's speedo to fix the trip odo..
There is an easy method to reset the odo...
Just remove the clip near the plastic gear and rotate the nos..
It's all set to zero..
If that is what you want to do. I was more interested in the way it uses a magnetic drive 😁👍
good video, thank you
hello meray Honda 125 ka speedometer nedel theak kam nai kr rahi matlib agar me 40km speed pr hu to nedel 60 kay kareb jay ga. help me
Sorry I do not know how you would adjust it. I would guess it would be something to do with the tension of that coil spring.

Yes but u have to show how it indicates diffetent speeds.........
The needle indicates the speed or did you miss that?
