HI, i have and old speedometer broken, it used for motorcycle year 93, when i moved speedcup from cable attached, pointer or spindle is stand still, so what's possibility broken? thanks
Hello I'm wondering if it would be possible to rotate the blue speed cup (and therefore also the spindle) by electromagnetic field coming from the external voltage NOT from mechanical spins of the permanent magnet (connected with the cable). What do you think? I'm thinking about controlling such a classical speedometer from Arduino (or another microcontroller). It would be much easier to generate specific voltage instead of controlling the magnet rotation
The magnetic field has to be rotating, as it has to provide a rotational force on the cup. which is not easy to do as a DIY job. Maybe there are analog speedometers with electric input. My dad once made a fuel usage indicator from a tachometer from an old Ford Sierra (don’t know the year). That was completely electronic but with analog needle. I don’t know the further details on that project. Another option would be to control a motor with your Arduino and connect that to the input of the speedometer.
thank u for da video. 1 doubt- most of da Indian 2 wheel vehicles speedometer is linked with the front wheel and der is no links present from transmission to magnet. so how does dat works??? or dis kind of speedometer only applicable to 4 wheelers??
It will change the speed that is showed in speedometer resulting in mistake. Smaller wheels will make the speedometer display a higher than real speed, and vice-versa. Hodometer will be changed too, Smaller wheels will make the odometer display a higher than real distance, and vice-versa.
@@holdshiftt2run308 That will only work for speedo’s controlled by the car’s computer. An app is going to do nothing about true analog speedo’s with a cable going right into the transmission, which this video shows.
No the oil only would only lubricate the moving parts (cable and magnet) it would never get into the speed cup because they are not attached, they don't even touch.
Depends where you put the oil. If it creates drag between the cup and the magnet then your speedo will be messed up. A speedometer which is not designed to contain oil is likely not oil-tight.

I have a very important question about the cluster of a 2005 hayabusa involved in an accident. The rider is severely brain damaged unfortunately and is bedridden in an auspice for life. Is there a way i can contact you to discuss what i need to know about whehter a needle apparently stuck at 65mph while the cluster is completely detached from the bike (on the ground) reflects the speed the man was driving or is it possible that the needle could have gone anywhere on the speedometer plate? Also, the rpm is stuck at 1200 rpm. Is it possible. I heard that if the spring is broken then the needle can go anywhere and if it is not the needle goes back to 0 mph. What do you think? I need an urgent answer.
If the rear wheel lost traction, which happens on a Busa already when you twist the throttle too far open, the speedo can show 150km/h while the bike could actually have been going 30. Also, the fact that you are DIY-researching such stuff via RUclips comments for something “highly important” around people with brain damage and probably legal cases, should make you realise that you are way off track for finding proper resources. This sounds more like the job of a research team of a police department.
Actually, what Richard says makes total sense. The bike of the rider who hit me head on did leave the ground and the rider went over the handle bar. Hence no traction, hand on the throttle.... makes sense. But, the other comment is also true. In my case, and it turned to be a legal battle against various actors, including the CHP and the county of Los Angeles, I found massive evidence of corruption and the case is before b the 9th circuit now for falsifying public records of accidents, their true causes, how the county of L.A, the state of California and the CHP have conspired to derail my case and countless others who didn't go as far as I did. Believe it or not, the president of division 8 of the court of appeal., Patricia Bigelow, among with the presiding judge of the superior Court, Samantha jessner, are involved in the cover up. All evidence has been given to state and federal courts and no-one wants to do anything about it. They just don't know that I am like a pit bull. I don't let go. There is si much more to say. Stay tuned. I am on about to go public on who did what with irrefutable evidence of the corruption that drains public funds, tax payer money and countless death due to lack of accountability
The magnet's not attached to it. Only the magnetism itself turns the speed cup which turns the spindle. The speed cup is made of aluminum by the way, which is barely magnetic

The further the spring gets compressed (=the higher the needle goes), the more resistance it gives to the needle.
