Yoga means union. A yogi is one who has realised within, the cessation of separateness from the Absolute, The Full, The one. Attachment to anything is bondage & separateness including emotional attachment to a place, thing , person. The guru's command here is aimed at absolute non attachment. After the realisation of yoga or one ness who is there to stay or go - go where? That is Shree Ramana Maharshi. Until then you, the sadhaka or seeker needs these practises.
