I love this track. It takes me back to those hot summer evenings I felt I shared with all those characters. They seemed so real as I read further. The cicadas were even crying outside...
The VN is so much more depressing than the anime. The characters are much more developed and the inner monologue can be pretty heartbreaking. The descents some characters had into their respective madness was really sad. One of the characters I felt the most for was Rena. They really just gloss over her arch in the anime by comparison. The anime is mostly faithful to the VN but it really misses a lot of monologue and character development.
@@Jestrath when i watched the anime i got the sense that they didnt get (?) what made the vn so good, like they got the plot points and dialogue down but it failed to capture the heart and soul of the vn. my brother and i decided to check out the anime on netflix and my brother, having never read the vn, said that it was garbage
I think this scene, with Shion-Mion revealing her tragic backstory (which turned out to be a complete lie), with this music playing, was the scene that got me truly hooked into this story. I was enjoying it before, but this is the scene that got me thinking "okay, I am INTO THIS."
I watched the anime first so I wasn’t as shocked, but reading the watanagashi hen alone and believing mion (shion) killed rika and kimiyoshi for that petty ass village curse reasons would’ve really fucked me up. Thank god meakashi was a bit more redeeming (rika attacking, and whole satoshi shit)…
Reading the VN, it was clear for me that Shion wanted to kill the head of all three families and take Mion's place (the curse was just an excuse). When she was uncovered, she switch her plan to be Shion again and blame Mion as much as she could. It was no surprise to read Meakashi - even if I wasn't right about everything.

some parts of this song but especially 3:19 reminds me of some of the instrumental stylings of Keith Green..some gospel singer and piano player from the late 1970's and early 80's
This is the moment Higurashi transforms into something beyond just your average shock murder horror story, evoking the Answer arcs a little bit as early as chapter 2
I love how the VN is so bipolar. Moment 1: Keiichi remembers about the doll. This music plays, there's a black-and-white flashback... it's all emotional and stuff like that. Moment 2: LOL I RLY SHION I TROLL U :D Bipolar as hell...
vanishy0urself It's actually funny how even that was used effectively to parallel K1 and the player's emotions. The track and scene make you very emotional nut the sudden 180 goes back on it all. This is also seen in K1 when he completely forgets to bring up the doll to Mion, the mood whiplash being so jarring I feel helped him not focus on the fact that he apologized to Shion instead and right after that whiplash it is hard to get emotional again to apologize to the correct Mion.
That's actually one of the simpler elements of Ryukishi07's writing. He starts it moderately positive in tone then shows bits of dark elements within the lighter tone until it eventually becomes fully dark and tragic in atmosphere.

Still remember my first time hearing this beautiful piece.
Which part was it first used in again?
+Zachary Henshaw Watanagashi-hen when Keiichi starts to look back at the doll incident. I'm 99% positive there but I could be wrong 😂
It was when he was crying about Rika and Satoko when they disappeared
Yeah sorry for necro-posting but doesn't that ost play in tatarigoroshi a lot?

One of those moments that makes you realize just how phenomenal RK07's writing is.

No the moral of the story is: don't upset a tomboy who has a yandere sister.
I love this track, especially faster part.
Rika... Sakoto.... Where are you?

Probably my favorite track out of all of them . Second is Shion's theme

You got it. I used to play Keith Green's "Make My Life A Prayer To You" 7 years before I composed this one. So I must be influenced by him.

there are much more charm in this raw, unpolished piano, that new, remastered melody just doesn't keep. Am I the only one, who thinks that?
