    If the store is not a Canon authorized dealer, the probability of getting a fake battery or charger (no matter what the seller says) is 99.9%. Canon will not sell their products just to anyone who wants to sell them (sellers must meet a certain criteria and strickly follow pricing rules). So if you find a good deal in Ebay/Amazon (or another off-the-wall website), it's most likely a fake if they are selling a lot of the same item and can't prove that they are an authorized Canon dealer. You can always call Canon to verify a seller or check their website and download the list of sellers.

    Thank you for this video.
    I don't see why Canon just doesn't make serial numbers for every product they sell, then have a page where we can register and check that serial number to check authenticity of the item. I mean, they charge an-arm-and-a-leg for their products, so this is something that ought to be done for their batteries.
    The 28 dislikes must be from the scammers!

    I've ordered an "genuine" Canon LP-E6 battery from China for $25. The cardboard insert could open at the side but there were a "user guide" included. The quality of the battery seems superb, the quality of printing seems spotless and there were no "type-errors". I was almost certain that it was genuine but the cardboard insert made me unsure. I then contacted Canons anti-counterfeit team in Europe and they could with certainty confirm that it was a counterfeit! I'm gobsmacked of the quality of these fakes today... Just wow!

      If the price is CHEAP, then it is counterfeit. Buy it directly from Canon, or reputable Canon camera dealerships.

    I just got burned on some cheap LP-E17 batteries. The packaging was excellent and at first I thought they were genuine. The biggest giveaway is that they won't charge in my original Canon charger, they will only charge in the fake chargers that were supplied with the fake batteries. Secondly, when used in the camera the battery level isn't displayed, as it is with Canon original batteries. These ones weren't the ultra-cheap obvious fakes, but they were less than a third of the price of the same batteries elsewhere and a lot of effort has been made to make them look like original Canon products. I should have smelt a rat. Whenever something seems too good to be true it usually is. Now in the process of returning them. I should be able to get my money back through Lazada.

    Great vid. I was on my way to buying a battery from eBay that claimed to be authentic but was too cheap to be good. Your vid was so helpful. Decided to jut go with a battery from a reputable seller that I know is legitimate. Thanks!

    I bought an extra battery for my Canon T3. I bought it through Wal Mart. The brand in Insten. I haven't had any issues with it. Do you have an opinion of this brand?

    • @thehumanityoflife6460

      I would buy a Canon battery from a photo dealer (ask for the original Canon brand, not an off-brand), or through Canon itself online. I bought a Canon in Hong Kong and was provided with the original Canon battery, but the 2nd. battery that they gave me was a SIDO brand (which I did not know until later on).. And that SIDO battery does not charge anymore, but the Canon one still works. You get what you pay for.

    Have had a issue with the lp-e8 battery sitting not used to long. A blinking fast yellow led Tip: clean the connection leads of the battery carefully. Warm up the battery with hair blower also carefully. This will lift the residue power in the battery a little just above the blinking indication threshold so the charger can see the battery is okay. It will then charge the battery. Hope it can help you. 😉

    I ordered a Sony battery from Amazon stupidly cheap (around £7, yea big give away) having seen the images were covered in the Sony logo, all the bells and whistles etc, then it arrived, i could see immediately that it was a fake, the packaging like you said was not sealed, it was like they just took an original battery out of the original packaging and replaced it with a fake one, all the Sony logos were taped over, there was no hologram on the battery but was one on the packaging, also the brushed metal effect on my original battery was just a plain chrome, I then looked properly at the reviews which said fake and avoid, then I watched a video on youtube similar to yours and it all came together, £7 down the pan! i added my review as well!

      Why would they bother? Fake a cheaper version of a more expensive battery that they can also fake? So they can what, sell what equates to the same amount of effort on their behalf for a lower price? I mean, your logic isn't wrong, but from a practical point of view I really can't see what the appeal would be to someone making counterfeits.

      @@kevindiaz3459 The most widely faked batteries are probably the branded camera batteries sold online. E.g just check Ebay, and look up Canon LP-E6, all those Canon-labeled batteries with Canon packaging and all.

      @@msbrownbeast which has what to do with duracell batteries possibly being fake?

    • @msbrownbeast
      @msbrownbeast 4 года назад

      Fake (branded) batteries are not limited to Canon (or Nikon or Sony), but also to day to day use batteries as well, such as the popular Duracell brand. Any time the fakers can produce a knock-off product and sell it at a price that is cheaper than the real original, they will do so.

    • @kevindiaz3459
      @kevindiaz3459 4 года назад

      @@msbrownbeast I can see why they might make a fake 9 volt Duracell or some other common battery, but not sure who in their right mind fakes a third party Duracell Canon battery when they could just fake the first party canon battery for the same effort and sell it for a higher price than the fake Duracell version, which likely wouldn't sell anywhere near as well as the fake Canon version. Again, I'm not saying your logic is wrong, they might well be doing that out there, I don't actually know. I know if it were me, I wouldn't bother; same effort less reward and likely smaller market (probably in the end would make 10-20% of what a fake canon battery scam would after considering volume of sales). But I guess scammers will scam where ever they can, that is mostly true. Maybe it's easier to pass off a fake Duracell than a Canon. That would be the only upside I can see, and that clearly is not something stopping them from trying. I just don't think it's very likely, or at the very least, happening in high enough volume to worry about much. You hear all the time about fake first party batteries, I can't say I've heard people talking about fake third party batteries. I really don't care about it enough to look into, at least not right now. I guess possible, sure I would think. Probable? Not so much.
      (This would be the same for any other company too.)
