Hi Emily...ask Aaron to make a vac bag to drape over all areas you will glass or glue together. Get vac pump and evacuate all the air from transom. Make sure to tape edges to avoid leaks. This makes a more dense patch repair the sand smooth and lap glass cloth not mat for strength. You will need multiple layers and reuse the vac cover. This removes all voids and bubbles. Your epoxy adhesive will be stronger than just glassing so cut piece to be installed a little smaller, don’t go for an exact tight fit as you need epoxy to mend the joint. Take your time...have fun...stay safe. I bought my most recent cruiser 35’ just before you showed yours. Mine needed water pump impeller and cosmetic work and cosmetics. Look forward to this adventure.
Did a liquid transom on a 20 footer about 5 years ago. Wasn’t too bad of a job. Much easier than what you guys are tackling. Looking forward to seeing this.
Being your boat videos do so good I need to bring my boat over and let y'all tune carbs love y'all shows always watching from the middle of gulf of mexico and Louisiana
I have built / repaired many transoms . Best way to "clamp" it all together is to vacuum bag it and use a shop vac to not only compress all the materials together, but also leave channels high up in the transom terminating at the keel so the vacuum will draw the mixed epoxy throughout the transom. It'll be strong as new, and you can add reinforcements everywhere possible. Easy to do once you get the hang of it. Good luck.
Another awesome vid on this boat. I love all your videos but I think this is my favorite. You guys are awesome. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see what engine swap it’s gonna have and see her back out on the water.
I had 3 boats living 1 mile from Lake Erie near Buffalo NY . I learned I was happy when I got the boat 🚢 and even happier when I sold them. I found putting money 💰 in old cars was a better idea. LOL 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆
I have replaced the transom and the entire floor in a 26 foot tri-hull that I went halfsies on with a guy that I used to work with. We bought it at auction, sight unseen, from the Missouri Fish and Game. It had sat uncovered for 6 years when we bought it. That boat had loads of fun and fish in it. One of our favorite things to do was to go for a midnight cruise round and round in huge circles in the middle of the lake. It was so neat to idle along and watch the stars.
Check out Sailing Seabird with Marina and Stu in France….I’ve never watched 2 people doing more learning on the fly fiberglass work in my life. Seeing You and Aaron doing the same has me cracking up. Ah, the joys of boat ownership… lol 😁 Considering what a new 28ft Cabin cruiser goes for you guys are way ahead of the game! 👍🏻🍻💙😎
I bought a 1985 Wellcraft 170 American, knowing it was going to be a complete gut job. When I installed the transom, I clamped it as much as I could. Where the opening is for the stern drive, I made an "X" with 2x4s inside and out, and a piece of threaded stock to tighten it down with, along with other clamping where the stern drive opening is. Aaron is doing the right thing inside the boat on the transom. I also used a slow cure epoxy. The reward from restoring the boat, is the grown "kids" and Grandsons love to go boating. The Coosa board used throughout for the transom, stringers, and floor made this boat a whole lot lighter.
There’s a guy on here that rebuilt an entire houseboat that he bought on Facebook marketplace did an amazing job on it, the boats called the Itty-Bitty and the gent in question has a channel called AYO Fishing, I know Aaron likes doing his own work, he had help as it was a massive project, it had an inboard motor on it and they ended up grafting a huge platform to hold an outboard motor, but watching his videos might give you an idea.
Ah, the story of the Itty-Bitty…. lol Those guys are what RUclips is all about. Crazy people doing crazy things all in the interest of having fun and entertaining people while having fun! 👍🏻🍻💙😎
I hate fibreglass dust.... it's so darn itchy. Haven't replaced a transom yet, but have done some glassing on a mould. One day we might finish it and make a couple of boats.
@@flyingsparksgarage That's so much better. My bad. My feed rate the past couple of days has been fluctuating wildly. It makes for some funky videos at times.
replace a transome and floor stringers all with westsystem it was a 75 cigar boat with 2 overhauler 350s holly carbs had a high/high tide one corner got stuck under my piers and completely sank 😢 this was in 2005 im old asf but i was a teenager
@@flyingsparksgarage I am not interested in that much challenge any more. If it was metal that I could cut bend or fabricate a new piece I would be game. I love your car stuff a lot and I like this also. Love you guys. Keep up the good work,

We built our transom so that we could put a 90 horse motor on it. It had been rated at 60 horse.
That extra 30 horse made skiing possible.
Awesome, you Guys got this for sure, good luck and keep us posted.
😂 I see what you did there… I love the hull out of all your content!! 😎🙌
The shore did it right!

I don't have a clue about how to fix a boat , but judging by the comments and having seen y'alls videos . I'm positive y'all got this .

Yes, replaced a transom on a 22' Larson I paid $500 for. Replaced transom and deck it was in sad shape. Have had it for 10 yrs now.
That’s AWESOME!!!
I just made a form and pour seacoast in, it's 3 times stronger then wood and won't rot
Faaaaaaabulous!
That sure is a dusty lens. Going for some new visual effects? Good luck with the transom. 🔧
We need more videos of you guys
Any maintenance on the engine while it’s out of the boat? Gaskets, seals? Does the boat have a Hobbs meter to know how many hours on the engine?
Epoxy (aka super sticky stuff or triple S for short). Nope can't say that I have.
Is this a new bought you purchased it doesn't look the one you had a year or two ago. Looks so much bigger
Same cabin cruiser! We also have a Malibu ski boat but this one has been on more vids!
Emily, do you know where that valve had been that you had in hand when you brushed your hair back?
The camera? 🤣🤣

I haven't replaced one, but I've ripped one out. Wasn't worth fixing .
Been there, done that. Bond it uniformly tight. 🙄
The good stuff happens when a tripod or the kid holds the camera!!!
License to pun revoked. Go directly to pun jail. 😂
I certainly hope they're planning on not using that non-treated wood
Treated wood is a no no
