I do accept the examples given are very very odd except Bojan but these were those breakouts. I am not certain at all that Dembele would get far either. But if he has that mindset to persevere, he might. However a longshot!!!
Bring back the old YTS scheme I’d say, have the youth team players cleaning boots and locker rooms like the old days. Will help keep them in check, too much money too soon.
The thing is once money & fame starts coming, it corrupts the passion for football! Some people rise above it, for some it takes time, but for some it will ruin their career! We don't know how this will go but it went downhill for a while!!
early 20s is when people break out, or even mid 20s. even then for defenders/gks, lates 20s can be their time. Jamie Vardy was at Fleetwood Town til he was 26 or so. Messi/Ronaldo were freaks, skill and physically. Its probably good they're not playing him much. He has a small frame and the last thing you want is some 6'3" / 85kg central defender putting an elbow in his ear or someone giving him a bad tackle, and then you get Ousmane Dembélé’s situation at Barca.
Things just didn’t ever seem to work out for him at Celtic but hopefully he’s happy in France and he starts to show what he’s capable of. He has all the tools it’s just a case of him staying fit and being right mentally and he can still fulfill all that potential 🧡🍀HH
I'm from Brest. I remember reading up about him after hearing that he arrived in town. I thought he was going to be a good deal, bringing speed and dribbling. But right now, he's only been used as a spark plug off the bench... Except he rarely does anything. Whether it's from him not being in the right position or not being given enough opportunities by his teammates, something is wrong
Talk of attitude etc are way off the mark. He’d have got game time last season at Celtic if he hadn’t picked up a bad injury in a preseason game. Just bad luck but he still has time to prove himself in France
Yeah haven't heard any accounts internally of an attitude issue. I think it was more the case of unfortunate injuries and a difficult side to then break into under Ange.
He needs a growth spout, like 4 or 5 inches. He will make it regardless but his career may resemble insigne. He needs to find a club that loves him for what he is and not his potential.
I think the kid made a good move. He had a big spotlight on him, which isn't always beneficial. It creates hype and expectations that in turn create huge pressure on a young kid. Taking 'a step back' to a different league turned that spotlight off, allowing him to develop himself and giving himself time.
He has a lot of time. The one that didn't fulfill his potential and had the same style is Musonda. Let's also not forget Berahino who started super strong young but quickly disappeared. We will see.
Like many young prodigies - majority of them are one season wonders (only the very few the real diamonds shine and rose to the top).. Bias example: Michael Owen
I remember the hype around 17-18 year ood Ronaldo nazario back in the early 90s, all the big club is chasing after him but luckily he took an advice from Romario to join the dutch league first just to settle into europe football and culture.
