I mean, just use it for it's intended purpose. Stand it up on concrete pylons at a high(ish) point on the land and sandblast it and paint it for corrosion protection. You might even consider cutting into it having the interior inspected for any potential problems or contaminants. That should hold a hell of a lot of water for multiple buildings on the property.
Courtney is generally - overly cautious. On this one she was not cautious enough... Consider making a cradle for the end of the tank that allows for lifting above the center of mass. It will help resist rolling ... CONGRATULATIONS! For not having a disaster!!!
A fire fighting water tank. Pour a concrete slab, get a crane to set it, fill it with water and have a pump and hoses at the ready. You can slowly fill it from the well once the weather gets warmer.
I knew from the start you couldn't get it in the middle of it. You managed to reconfigured it in a way I though you would damage the water tower... I don't know if you are just so good, or just so lucky ! I saw you both talking next to this things and in my mind, I was just watching it and I was scared a strap or a tire blow and this thing roll over on me... Anyway, I'm glad you guys made it ok. If they can get it a bit further in the mountain, gravity could provide good water pressure to their house. I would have just bought a bunch of 1000l tot at 30$ each if it was just for that tough. Anyway, looking forward the future video.
Yup, water tank and a Lightning rod holder. Being all metal, that tank will need a lightning rod and a big concrete slab with a metric ton of rebar in the slab. You may need to add a red FAA beacon on the top? You could add a cable winch elevator to make getting to the top easier?
Sweet video to see something we built on your video! We actually built that tank! Doesn't appear to be that old based on how the paint and attachments look. They're initially designed as a pressure vessel for cryogenic liquids, meaning they can hold liquids or gasses, but they are often converted to water towers in the used market. Since they are built as pressure vessels, they always are made with at least two layers of core material- outer core usually of steel/stainless and inner core steel/stainless/super composite material, with an insulating material in between. You dented the outside, but the inside will most likely be just fine. With that said, after building these, we only store them on "C" pedestals at each end. The ends are the strongest supporting sides regardless of which direction it's facing. The neck fill or dispensing ports are not designed to hold weight and be used as a lifting point. I'm surprised you were able to lift it without breaking considering your tank probably weighs around 34-38 thousand pounds. You can also see the original supports have been welded off, which sucks because we design them to be absolutely dead centered on a perfect grade. It will NOT be easy to weld something back and align the tank up as straight as it was originally. I got so much anxiety watching you stand next to it without it being really secured. Those straps do nothing. We use those large C pedestals along with chains due to previous near miss instances.

This is the craziest thing I have seen you two take on , I am a retired engineer who has done significant project work on 5 continents, seen some sketchy stuff this was equally frightening as some of the best! I could tell by the fittings and tank hat hand bottom outlet it was a dual wall insulated LP cyro tank . Had my fingers crossed for you the whole time.

The obvious suggestion is stand it up as a water tank. If so I suggest add a watchtower on top. Somehow I think you probably have a totally left field Idea.
I thought for sure this thing was going to end up rolling out of sight down the hill. Congrats on another beautiful creative on-the -fly engineering operation. I think the tank would make a cool observation deck and recreation/party house. Mutiple interior floors and a couple small rooms with a spiral staircase to the open covered deck at the very top. Plenty of windows scattered around the circumference.
Space Station Oliver...paint it up to look like a rocket, strengthen internally and externally to make the best kids room ever...though whether to go vertical or horizontal is a difficult choice. The wee guy, when he's a little older could even do some skateboarding in a section of it if laid horizontally. Or (going out on a limb here) make it into a mobile home.
Set the conical bottom plus legs in concrete. pipe out the bottom set up for hooking to a fire pump. Add guy wires and stairs around it, or ladder. build a small fire lookout/fort on top. Fill with rainwater from roof. Place above house for view or if want more water faster below something with a large roof, Or build a rain catch/little storage shed above it. Or just hide it up in the woods so there's gravity feed to the house.
Geez you two! I have been watching for years and I have to say your Ambition never disappoints! I'm not sure the channel name even covers it anymore! Y'all amaze me! You both have been helping me over the physics of my anxiety from a UTV rollover I had while fighting a wildfire here in North Georgia in 2016. Somehow watching you folks operate equipment keeps me questioning my fear. I finally got back in a skid steer last fall and graded my yard. Thanks for the inspiration ❤ Sending love from Georgia!
Pumped storage for generating electricity…ok I doubt the numbers would work for that, but it’s a fun thought experiment. If you are going to do emergency water storage, paint it black. With a dumb waiter, just because. I kept wondering where the excavator was…those things are crazy flexible with these kind of projects.
Riley... please tell us you have a HUGE life insurance policy on yourself 😱 You under the truck with a log precariously holding it up was definitely a heart stopping moment. 🫣 I'm so glad to you FINALLY told us you weren't taking it on the road. I kept saying, "they can't take that on the road!" Whew!!! 🫡 First time I doubted you could pull something off yet there you were on your home soil!!! 😲 I like the below suggestion of water tank for fighting fires 👍 As always, you guys rock 👊🤗
Just a thought. Have you both had an ant tetanus injection. If you work in the bush as much as you do it would be wise. They last ten years. Wife and I have 3 gardens and it was suggested to us. Last century many gardeners died from tetanus.
You two are both absolutely fearless! Fearless doesn’t mean you’re not scared it means you won’t let fear intimidate you into surrendering to it. There’s no quit in you two. I love it!
I've been watching you guys for years now. This may have been the most interesting of all your videos. Can't wait to see what your going to do with it. Well Done.
You could use it as a back up water tank and use the water for the house or to have a garden in the near future. Just make sure it is food and health safe to use for the water for the house if you do that.
That was crazy! It’s stuff like this that keeps me watching. I would figure out someplace uphill from the shop to install it (not going to be easy) and use it like a water tower. It’s so nice to see you guys on the same page and supportive all the time.
Incredible job, you two! I am constantly amazed at your ingenuity. You are masters of improvising, adapting, and overcoming. Fill it with rainwater/snow runoff from solar panels. add some pumps/hoses and use in case of fire.
It is lovely to see how happy you make each other and can accomplish tasks without seeming to argue. Don't forget the blowers in front of the front wheels to blow snow away so you can drive.
If you work with tanks or plate steel you buy one. I bought an air compressor and got one to check the tank. They are only $140. People who have or repair steel boats would also get one.
Stand it up on a good base, put a spiral stair init to the top, a hatch to access the roof which you will install a nice deck on.. Add sleeping quarters along the way up, like hammocks, and presto, guest quarters.
WOW!!! THAT WAS INTENSE!!! HOORAY!! YOU MADE IT!!! EXCELLENT!!! Congratulations!. Yes, a fire supression water tank ... or for whatever else a water supply it cold be used for.... maybe even heat storage. (water is good for that) Stand up the tower or easier if possible to mount it horizontally in cradles (make sure no leaks) and insulate it.
I salute the two of you. Your ability to assess a situation and engineer solutions with what you have on hand is top notch. TANK YOU VERY MUCH for sharing your CREATIVE PROJECTS with us here on RUclips.
Gravity pressure water storage tower. Solar pump your new pond water, collect building eavestroughs and store the water in the tower for use in gardens, fire suppression, pressure washing equipment etc.
I was adamently POSITIVE it wasn't going to work. Flabbergasted that not only did the salvaged axle hold the weight, the truck lifted it's end AND pulled it up the mountain! AND it never fell off! WTF!!!!!!! Amazing...simply amazing...As for what to do with it?? Maybe set it up at the right side of the building towards the back (by the woodshed area) and make a multilevel bedroom/house for Oliver when he's a teen...His doorway opens from the loft office area across the garage and into his room....That would make an AMAZING series of videos you two setting it up, connecting and building it out. Even build a series of small decks and wrap around stairs. THAT would be so freaking cool to watch.
multi purpose. Build a room for Oliver in the top and use the bottom part as water storage. That would be an awesome room to have. You could have it connected to the house so he doesn't have to go outside to go to bed.
Ok, water tank if you need it potable/fire, but, stairway around the outside and a deck on top! Then go nutz, maybe a conical roof so the snow falls off, with a flying fox off into the trees or to your deck would be fun, ok, maybe going a bit too far? Happy New Year to you all from New zealand.
Set it up at the back of the storage container shop. Put that atmospheric water generator on it run continuously add a full size wash bay to the container shop and thousands of gallons extra for you guys but I'd insulate the tank for winter
Stand it up and make it into an observation tower. Cut windows in it near top and door at bottom. Put a floor in it near top and ladder inside to get to upper floor. Lower area can be storage.
So, so awesome! If not for water use, how about replacing the deserted home and make this a vertical home on top of the mountain with zip line to existing home?
Sir Skech-a lot strikes again! I say fire water storage in the summer, drain it in the winter, fill it with the spring excess water. Can’t wait to see what you two have planned for it.
Riley you are a genius you guys are beyond belief but such a pleasure to watch how you two work together it's amazing,,,, you're wondering what you're going to do with that tank so am I, I can't believe whatever you do with it is going to be worth chopping that huge dump bed up. I could just see that bed hooked up on your military vehicle. what a hell of a dump truck that would have made
Love it! Reminds me of the Superman movie when Superman catches Lois Lane and says "Don't worry miss, I have you. Lois says "You got me? Who's got you?!!".
Probably not good for potable (drinking water) but for watering a garden and fire fighting, assuming it holds water. I would agree with others, a watch tower on top.
Huge Fan of the Channel!. Great Video. I was holding my breath for almost 20 minutes. I love how you guys work as a team, work the problem and find a creative solution. (all while filming the whole thing) I'm looking forward to your next projects and love the progression on the Homestead.
You saw this tank, You said let's bring it home. And now you want to figure out what to do with it? This is why I love you guys and watch Every second of your video's.
I imagine with water weight you’re going to have to dig some pretty deep concrete pilings even beyond a simple slab! Probably 4-5 ft down for each “leg” or just in a complete square around where the legs go. Use rebar! lol
Did something similar to this while a farm hand in the 80's. Bought a 10' diameter X 30' long tank. We owned a sawmill, also. Cut 2--25' oak 8" X 8" logs for the tank to ride on 2 miles down a gravel road and 3/4 mile on the highway to the homestead. Drug it home with a Versatile 4 wheel drive tractor. By the time we got home 4 hours start to finish, the 8" X 8" were 8" X 6" tall, so we wore off 2" of height of the oak logs. Stored diesel fuel in the tank for several years until the farm was sold and I had to get a real job! LOL We farmed 1000 acres, raised 1000 head of hogs and 200 head of cattle and calves.
Make it a water reservoir and swimming lap pool... Could double as fire emergency water source that can be used for remotely operated pole mounted sprinklers protecting your property and structures.
Use the dozer to clear a ski slope on the mountain. The tank holds water for the snow making machines. The foundations for the tank need to be massive enough to keep the wind from pulling them out of the ground.
You two are so lovely crazy. Give the guy welding that fitting to the tank a MEDAL. We are a German couple living in France and we love your channel and your adventure and one DAY we will live like you both do. A big hug and all the best for you guys. Good work from the big truck
Question. You had a dump truck frame? With front end? Put tires on front. It has +16 FEET bearing area for tank? Use full length you had before cut up. Weld from front a steering arm . At least 6 tires holding up trailer. *or dual up rear even better* weld, add rails to outside. Every foot wider cradle the more stable. I have done sketchy stuff. But not nearly as unsafe.m
make it a water tower if safe to use that way with your StarLink on top and a light with a remote switch if not maybe cut in half and use for water catchment and the top for a pool by the barn patio deck
I’m wondering is you have cell tower locations around you. You must. If not though, I’ve heard the revenue off of a tower location-leasing to multiple providers-is pretty lucrative. It requires access 24/7 and electricity. If a tower was installed-maybe they would pay to run power to your property?
Me and my hubby love watching you guys and your adventures. Cute little family you have. I'm just starting my RUclips Journey. We're off grid in South Eastern Idaho and plan on moving to our 20 acres that we bought in Alaska in the spring of this year. I'll be sharing that Journey. Wish me luck. 😊
Excellent job on the move, those trucks are awesome! Do you know what the tank originally held? If it wasn't too toxic, it could be a irrigation/ fire suppression storage tank. Keep up the good work!
@@MrPaulviles We live fairly close to Ambition Strikes and our local fire department relies on tanks like this to get water (we are very rural). We keep a couple of tanks full year-round by insulating around the valves and paining them a dark color. It may be a bit cooler by Ambition strikes, but our record low was 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
I'd have left a whole lost more of that old dump truck chassis as part of the dolly. That length/distance would allow for a much more stable and secure attachment of tank to dolly.
You guys should use it as a water tower I was a nervous rack washing but congratulations you did a great job I love you show you’re the best on RUclips
I flat towed a 40 foot motor home 15 miles with an A frame hitch behind my truck with my buddy in the motor home sitting in a lawn chair running the brakes😂 this tops it for me for now. No one got hurt and the law didn't get involved so I consider that a success.
Water storage for fire protection and an observation deck on top . If you do use it as a water tank make sure you put a connection on it so the fire department can hook up to it. If you contact them they will tell you what you would need and most likely will give it to you. Do you know how many gallons it will hold? Can’t wait to see what you have planned for it. Also waiting to see how the build is going on the house.
You could dual purpose this tower as both water storage and as a solar thermal water heater. Paint it black and place in direct sun to heat the water in the tank as your thermal mass and put a coil heat exchanger in it. Run the heat exchanger system to radiant heater in your house.
I laughed out loud. "Hopefully that's the sketchiest thing you do all day" at that point of the build. Good one! Love the team work and ingenuity. You guys rock!
Definitely what ever its used for it should have your Ambition Strikes Logo on it. Even if it's on the side that faces away from everything, so you can use it in shots when you need it.
I love yall's channel. I'm so happy i found it!! I've literally sent your channels link to so many people it's actually embarrassing lol. keep up the good work!
A water tank water collection with a watch tower dwelling on top of it. Stairs on the outside with a water collection cone roof, with an antenna and wind generator.😂 But can you get it to where the old cabin burnt down???
Ahh, I actually bought the 30 miles down the freeway and said, “No way, these guys are freaking crazy!” Thanks Riley, that was good for a chuckle… glad you made it!!!🎉
I just discovered you both on here recently and you are 100% correct sir! Those trucks are absolutely amazing! The versatility and manufacturing on those machines are top of the line for sure! I was I. The Marine Corps and drove the wrecker variant ALL OVER THE PLACE! Never could get that thing stuck! When things settle down you both should take a trip to Osh Kosh, Wisconsin and see the place they are made. Amazing facility! You ever want to know something about them, let me know! Great videos! Keep it up!
That tank should already be double-walled and insulated, so it would make an absolutely fantastic water tank. IF you can get it upright and level. That may be tricky given the way the legs were cut off. But, if you can, you could also build an observation deck on/near the top, giving you an epic location for watching the world go by, and a clear space for mounting antennas and dishes.
If you had gin poles mounted to the back of your heavy truck with a winch or, cooler a Stewart & Stevenson M 1089 6X6 wrecker which would already have a winch and the crane could be used for maintenance not to mention parts compatibly, you could have picked up the rear of the tank with less effort than sliding it on the tilt bed trailer. Besides how cool would it be to have another S&S in the yard with a crane to lift things.
*Fire Protection* . It's a water tank, yes? You live in a place surrounded by forest. Currently you have nothing protecting you but luck and the weather. Do what mountaintop astronomy observatories do. Put a sprinkler system in. Plumb it to this large water tank and its own dedicated pump. Add this tank to your existing home water system such that your well water over flows from this tank into your current storage.
Nice job moving the tank. How about pumped hydro (PHES) with excess electricity from your solar panels. Research a pelton wheel. This would complement your battery bank.
You can do couple of things: - root cellar: dig it in to ground and cut some entrance (you can make it more robust inside while pumping concrete around it and then you can remove supports from inside and you will have a nice big cellar); - water tower: just make sure ground can withhold all mass with water, so if plan to use it that way do it in some distance from house; - pool: Cut it open and use only half of it but you will have a nice side open pool; - do something else: u can cut it out and use parts to do many projects (including all above at once) plus some others (like roof for garden house, or rings in to fire wood storage, etc). Just have fun with it and make it practical.
Mountain Fort for the kids. Build out a couple of interior decks with ladders. Lookout openings in the top. Zip-line exits when the time is right. A lightweight solar setup with a couple of 12v lights and USB ports.
@@AmbitionStrikes Sounds fun but a terrible idea. You need to protect the buildings from fire. Building a child's fort and a zip-line would be cool, but there are endless ways of doing the fun stuff without wasting a major component of a wildfire protection system for the buildings and the people in them.
@@Chris-lp3dmI’m completely in agreement Chris. I think keeping the vessel functioning as water storage for fire protection is paramount. But the exterior could support an awesome spiral staircase with little landings for different views and perhaps a platform on top that creates a special space like the restaurant in the Space Needle. It’s an opportunity to showcase Riley and Courtney’s genius and skills.
Cut the tank in 2 sections. The bottom section could be a standing Jacuzzi / hot tub with a deck built around it. The top section could be next to it , place on a foundation . Turn it into a sauna/ hot house. You could line the inside with wood. This could be on the other side of the same deck for easy access to the hot tub. Now you have your own mountain retreat .
What should we turn this tower into!?
Culvert or one hell of a root cellar.
water supply? firefighting... droughts... not a bad idea
What you use it for depends on what was in it. Spiral staircase in it to multi level watch tower to see all those beautiful views in your area.

Yeah get it set up for water tank in case their is a fire then you have water to help put it out
Kudos to the guy that welded that fitting to the top of the tank! I don't think it was intended to be structural.
It's amazing that no one died doing this. Awesome job!

@athul690 good point. I've also seen DJI mic and the Osmo pocket 3
Looking at the shadows, it looked like they were using cell phones for some shots.
The obvious suggestion is stand it up as a water tank. If so I suggest add a watchtower on top.
Somehow I think you probably have a totally left field Idea.
And maybe some kind of wind turbine on a additional tower on top of it :D
You two are just incredible - and you have the right tools for the job! That 6wd army truck is just the B.E.A.S.T. And so are the two of you!
They have the right tools when they go and cut apart a dump truck! to make a dolly. Wow.
It is lovely to see how happy you make each other and can accomplish tasks without seeming to argue.
Don't forget the blowers in front of the front wheels to blow snow away so you can drive.
Who in the world has an ultrasonic measuring device laying around except for this guy....😂 that looks like some sketchy stuff I thrive on!
If you work with tanks or plate steel you buy one. I bought an air compressor and got one to check the tank. They are only $140.
People who have or repair steel boats would also get one.
Weld on line gas pipes use one every time
Stand it up on a good base, put a spiral stair init to the top, a hatch to access the roof which you will install a nice deck on.. Add sleeping quarters along the way up, like hammocks, and presto, guest quarters.
You got me good...."30 miles down the highway" 😮😅
WOW!!! THAT WAS INTENSE!!! HOORAY!! YOU MADE IT!!! EXCELLENT!!! Congratulations!.
Yes, a fire supression water tank ... or for whatever else a water supply it cold be used for....
maybe even heat storage. (water is good for that) Stand up the tower or easier if possible
to mount it horizontally in cradles (make sure no leaks) and insulate it.
Man! You had angels watching over you. INSANITY...WITH SUCCESS!!!
don't encourage this madness, he will die if this continues! seriously!
Darwin will on occasions give free passes to hum in a larger group..
I salute the two of you. Your ability to assess a situation and engineer solutions with what you have on hand is top notch. TANK YOU VERY MUCH for sharing your CREATIVE PROJECTS with us here on RUclips.
OMG I love a good, sketchy, non-OSHA approved project. You guys killed it!!
Great great video guy's WOW! I knew you could do it ! You two are amazing! Happy New Year!
Absolutely insane dude 😂, you cease to amaze me, can’t believe what you guys actually achieve 👌🏻🤙🏻
Probably not good for potable (drinking water) but for watering a garden and fire fighting, assuming it holds water. I would agree with others, a watch tower on top.
should build a big ram pump to fill it with your pond/spring then pup that water up the hill to be cleaned and used
Huge Fan of the Channel!.
Use rebar! lol
Bedrock is pretty close to the surface on their mountain
Build external stairs and add a seacan on top with walkaround railing - you can still fill it with water
I hope that tank is clean enough inside so you can use it for a gravity water supply perhaps.
It’s very clean inside! It’s coated with a food grade liner of some sort.
@@AmbitionStrikes Food grade you say? You can never have to much coffee - giant French Press it shall be!
Cut into rings, base make a hot tub, use rings for raised planting beds, top can be used as a storage building.
make it a water tower if safe to use that way with your StarLink on top and a light with a remote switch if not maybe cut in half and use for water catchment and the top for a pool by the barn patio deck
Yes! It came from a local salad dressing company and we’re pretty sure it only held water. It’s perfectly clean inside!
@@AmbitionStrikes Then use it as intended. You need it for *Fire Protection* . Sprinklers on the building exteriors, dedicated pump.
@ That’s awesome, there are so many possibilities! We can’t wait to see what you turn it into!
I live in the tropics of Australia so please excuse the lack of knowledge, wouldn’t it freeze in your climate unless insulated?
Awesome project ... awesome video guys. Military truck is awesome too . Enjoyed this video very much.
Underground bunker / root cellar / food storage pantry
So F'''ing Fine Teamwork...So Damn Proud...Of You Both...God Bless
I love yall's channel. I'm so happy i found it!! I've literally sent your channels link to so many people it's actually embarrassing lol. keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for sharing our channel! 🙌
You have a very special wife, she helps you, most women would be saying don’t do this.she is one of a kind.❤
What ever you do with it you need to have “Ambition Strikes” down the side of it!!
What a suspenseful video ❤super thrilled you are both alive after that one and I’m sure Courtney was referring to both Moms!!
A water tank water collection with a watch tower dwelling on top of it. Stairs on the outside with a water collection cone roof, with an antenna and wind generator.😂
But can you get it to where the old cabin burnt down???
The success is due as much in engineering as it is in confidence and self belief. Well done team.
Keep it up!
I love Courtney how you go along with Rileys crazy🤪ideas. Maybe cut it in half have a big Swimming pool!!. Good Luck🥳🤓
Wow! Amazing! ...No wonder you guys were tired...betcha slept good! Really look forward to watching these videos❤
Wow. You had me sitting on the edge of my seat. My suggestion would be to clean it, use it to brew a batch of beer, and hold a party.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST IDEA!!! And not as crazy as hauling that up the mountain. You'd have enough beer to invite the world!!
Nice idea 😂
Call it the Kegerator-saurus! 😂
Why not some moonshine 👍🏾
I'm in
That tank should already be double-walled and insulated, so it would make an absolutely fantastic water tank. IF you can get it upright and level. That may be tricky given the way the legs were cut off. But, if you can, you could also build an observation deck on/near the top, giving you an epic location for watching the world go by, and a clear space for mounting antennas and dishes.
Courtney & Riley this is a feat. Can’t wait to watch until the end. Thanks for making such interesting content🙏🙏🙏Blessings
I still can’t believe we attempted this… 😬
Me either!😂
Get it set on its feet somewhere nice built circular stairs around it and have a fewing platform on top of it. Sounds easy.
Just because its FREE doesn't mean its worth retrieving
Great idea!!
Nice job moving the tank. How about pumped hydro (PHES) with excess electricity from your solar panels. Research a pelton wheel. This would complement your battery bank.
Great name for that Farm Jack; “break your face jack”!
I've heard "house Jack" and " Bloomfield Jack" either way they are really handy and very dangerous
You can do couple of things:
- root cellar: dig it in to ground and cut some entrance (you can make it more robust inside while pumping concrete around it and then you can remove supports from inside and you will have a nice big cellar);
- water tower: just make sure ground can withhold all mass with water, so if plan to use it that way do it in some distance from house;
- pool: Cut it open and use only half of it but you will have a nice side open pool;
- do something else: u can cut it out and use parts to do many projects (including all above at once) plus some others (like roof for garden house, or rings in to fire wood storage, etc).
Just have fun with it and make it practical.
Mountain Fort for the kids.
Build out a couple of interior decks with ladders. Lookout openings in the top. Zip-line exits when the time is right.
A lightweight solar setup with a couple of 12v lights and USB ports.
Oliver seconds this idea!
You should set it up fill it with Water then Build a wrap around staircase to the top with a platform on the top
