    This was great to see!! I knew Gene was much more familiar with folkstyle wrestling, which I also prefer, but I watch all types of wrestling and I knew it would be tough for Gene to switch over back then to a style others, especially in Russia, do all their lives. Gene is interesting because he never really looked that powerful but he obviously had strength and technique for days. A lot of us guys from then 1980's high school days copied Gene's style, especially the series of turning people from on top. Beloglazov brothers are both legendary and hard as nails, but if this was a folkstyle match Gene would have won more convincingly.

    Anatoli must've run out of gas for him to let Mills reverse and turn him like that. Those were the days when they had 3-3-3 with a one-minute break in-between. Gene Mills was really one of the good guys of wrestling. He was always respectful of his opponents, even when he destroyed them.

    Since you are from the US, I understand that you mostly post matches involving Americans and them winning. I was just kind of offended that the Soviets lose in every match I saw on youtube, before I searched through all your videos.

    Belogazov was not the clear winner. Maybe his points were more dominant-looking than Mills' but every point he got was legit. Because of his early dominance of the match Belogazov seemed to burn himself out hence giving up three points in the last 20 seconds. As for the early two point move he was awarded, Mills had control, though brief, and tilted the Russian beyond the 90 degrees. In the background you can even see Gable put up two fingers.

    I am not making ignorant statements, when I said all Soviet athletes are better than American athletes, I was talking about in Freestly and Greco-Roman Wrestling.

    I'm talking about Soviet times when all sectors of sports had more than enough financing, and attention from the government. Now Russia neglects Olympic sports, even still Alexander Karelin one example I can name many more.

    Now compare the country to what it was during Yeltsin-Kasparov's time to what it is now under Putin and you would see the difference.

    I see that you do have 3 videos of Soviets winning against the US, but I could not find them throught search. Searching "freestyle wrestling" brings up too much so I did not look through all the results. "Wrestling soviet" turns up too little results. More tags would have helped like ussr, soviet, us, olympics, world championships.

    Why are there only wrestling vides of US winning? The Soviets won much more.

  • @DontNeedToKnow84
    @DontNeedToKnow84 17 лет назад

    It doesnt matter what it shows on these videos, because all know the Soviets are better Athletes than the Americans. A guy that is ranked 50th place for weightlifting or wrestling in Russia is ranked 1st place in America. Same goes for all other sports.
    The majority of Olympic Gold medal winners for Soviet Union were Armenian.

  • @CubanColonel
    @CubanColonel 14 лет назад

    This is not fair. Not only Beloglazov dominated the entire fight, he should have ended 9-5 ahead. Mills didn't turn him at the end for the two points he received and at 1:58, Mills received undeserved points. Beloglazov should have won the fight easily. The referee was biased towards the American.
