He’s so enormous. Those poor women must’ve been beyond terrified.
I feel so sad for his victims. They didn’t stand a chance 😢

His head is absurdly large. It looks like it weighs 80lbs by itself.

It is so sad that the word “prostitute” was used as the main descriptor for these women. Yet in the same sentences the men were just that, men. Why not “John” “sex trafficker” “solicitor of prostitution” or “rapist”
THIS. You hit the nail on the head. Just another one of those commonplace examples of misogyny in society.
You know at some point in the documentary one guy states why they used to word prostitutes …. it was intentional in an attempt to despell the uncomfortability folks have with the word
@@Zorazora1234 still doesn’t explain why they didn’t refer to the men as sex buyers, johns, solicitors of prostitution…
Engaging in illegal acts is criminal. Why not just call them suspects? IMHO it is because men have always wanted prostitutes, and that is supposed to legitimize the whole thing.
@@Zorazora1234 People who were engaging in illegal activities, why not just call them suspects?
Makes me angry the first thing they say after her name is a prostitute. Stop doing that. Say it later because I know it is the truth. But come on. Not the first thing you say after their name.
If it wasn't for Shannon's mother and John Ray the lawer the police would have swept it under the rug
Connections are being made between James Burke, Rex H., and police sergeant, a priest and a doctor in Oak Beach. They definitely are sweeping it under the rug.
Seems like they did their best to.

Shannan has nothing to do with these murders though, beyond dying in the same area

What's interesting is that the brush was so thick and tough for LE to navigate, and yet the killer didn't seem to have a problem---apparently, even in the dark.

Tho' he was a spree killer rather than a serial killer. Tho' possibly (probably?!) also a serial killer. But sex workers and small underweight victims the most targeted victims of SKs b/c they go for most vulnerable b/c they r gutless little nobody's trying to feel powerful 😢
So a witness says her Cop boyfriend drove one of the victims to Rex's home. A doctor working for the police called Shannon's family and claimed she was at his home. Amazing so many have never heard this when it’s been known widely the entire time that Shannon’s name has been mentioned. The family had serious mental health issues, & her sister killed her mother, known & publicly released on every front page at the time. Had it not been for her mother the other bodies would have never been found. I’m more amazed at how many people claim to not know this, yet also claim to follow Shannon’s story.

Who hasnt heard all this ten times over the years ..nothing new here at all
@@supme7558I agree completely, extremely repetitive, 10 min piece at best stretched out to a hour and a half.
@@supme7558I agree this needs to be advertised better. I live in Massachusetts and I hadn't heard of it being this big of a case or taking this long to get an arrest. Like the journalist said, it was a while before they did any updates and it was always around the anniversary of when the first remains were found. People tend to forget things that don't affect them on a daily basis, so only hearing about it once every year on the anniversary, IF they actually do catch the news about it, it's not something that's on the top of their minds. Besides, when you're not getting the full story, and it never seemed like they were getting anywhere or closer to finding who did it, it was just same old news with nothing new. I just don't think it's that crazy of an idea that this case should be covered by more local area news sources in other states. It wouldn't be too hard to fathom that whoever else might have been using that area the same way as that D-BAG to be from MA or CT, even RI. That's saying if he isn't connected to the others. I just hope for the victims and their loved ones sake that this gets solved so all can have justice and closure. RIP to those victims, and condolences to their loved ones. 🙏

A syllogism that is found to be completely apt yet again - "Not every narcissist is a psychopath, but every psychopath is a narcissist".
Yeah I totally agree, this def brings to mind the fact that people tend to not know the real definition of "narcissism". They go ahead and label any abuser/sociopath as a narcissist, but not all abusers have narcissism. And if we are using the colloquial term, people are still applying it wrong. There are plenty of folks out there who are abusive that are far from narcissistic.

Shannan KNEW she was going to die. No question.
She figured it out. It was a killing party. I believe the weirdo who called her mom was involved.
Sadly Shannon was drugged out of her mind & known to her friends to always drug up before going to meet a trick she met on Craigslist. Every single person, including her mother, admitted to her drug use, mental health issues gone untreated that ran in the family. Sadly she didn’t wait at any one of the 3 homes that called the cops for her. I believe it was her driver who got tired of chasing her down the street who went after her and she ran and hid, succumbing to the elements. Shannon died due to her own hysterical reaction and not waiting on the help, that was on the way. Her sister later killed her mother on untreated mental health disease. Unfortunately, nobody killed Shannon but like her sister, her own worst enemy. Her mother didn’t die in vain as she did fight to help find her daughter, & in turn, found many other people who were victims. It’s also been known for years there’s at least 3 serial killers working this area & the Gilgo beach area was a good hiding ground.

What does a serial killer look like? They look like your neighbor, your boyfriend, the boss, a lawyer , a surfer , a college boy or girl , a school teacher, the electrician, a politician. @@AvaLynn.v.A. I think that’s known as ‘with the benefit of hindsight’ and an active imagination!😂
The killer phoned the families to taunt them - even on the phone of one of the dead women? And they never reported this to the police?
So well made!
it always makes me cringe when the reporter is grinning so enjoyably when relating such awful things
He's NOT grinning!
Why these people smiling in these interviews.
Why dont they sorry for these victims.
That doesn't mean they don't feel sorry for them.
..different reporters smiling excitedly while more and more bodies are found.
Bloodlust.
I guess from their perspective it can be seen as a major break in their journalistic carreers.
I think his wife knew, esp once the photo of the belt came out, if that’s in fact his belt. Plus, she’s never once shown any sympathy or empathy to the families of the victims. And the audacity that she was asking for money, saying she had financial difficulty. Now she’s doing some million dollar deal to do a documentary. She should give that money to the victims families.
I agree, how could she not kniw something was wrong? All those guns in the house, tons of phones hidden all over the place, hundreds of guns, the house was rotting away..
Notice how they repeatedly called Shannon "a prostitute" until they met her family.
That was her line of work, where's the lie?
@lonerebeI prostitute is a derogatory term, and most people in this line of work prefer to be called a sex worker. It's about respect.
They don't want to recognize Shannan as a serial murder ; because her location and people there are IDENTIFIABLE AND THEY WERE SO DERILICT IN THIS CASE. I BELIEVE IGNORED
Do you mean as a victim of the serial killer?
EXACTLY!!!
Shannon didn’t go to the Gilgo beach murderers home, nor was she near his home, nor was his vehicle tracked or found in the area when she disappeared. We now know this from all the tracking they’ve done on Rex Heurermann. Shannon was high on something, erratic, & had she waited at any of the 3 homes she went to, that all called the cops, she would have been alive, that night at least. She was in a risky lifestyle, was estranged from her family, & sadly ran from her driver into the brush & succumb to the elements.
@@dudemorris7769 DUDE TROLL DID YOU SHE WAS FOUND WITHIN 500 FEET APPROX. OF GILGO BEACH VICTIMS. DID YOU LISTEN TO THE 911 TAPES?? IF SOMEONE HAD LET HER IN SHED BE ALIVE. IF 911 TRACKED HER. PROBABLY SHED STILL BE ALIVE. WE DONT KNOW WHAT SHED INGESTED AT ALL. SHE WAS TERRIFIED AND ALL THE MEN, WERE TREATING HER CRUELY. WHEN GOOD OLE MIKE THE DRIVER CALLED HER OUT BY NAME HE EXPOSED HER WHICH THEY DONT REVEAL A REAL identity except as a mark
It's breaking the protocol. She knew that. So she said she wasn't going with him. Like any citizen under threat she called for help , 911. She knew her name. Those men were not helping her no one did. Obviously not you. She's a human frail young and terrified. They were right behind her, Mike was . He could've shown where she went helped emt or cops. He covered his arrogant ass in his luxury SUV leaving her to die. She probably felt she wasn't at risk going to a nice area with so called security .
How do you know it's not a group committing crimes in more than one home? Just because they arrested Heuerman doesn't mean he is the only perp. SG was a sex worker and on Craigslist like the others. She had a broken hyoid bone she didn't die by accident whatever they say.
This is a great presentation on the history of this case
Ocean Parkway has always been my therapy drive when I need to clear my head especially in the winter. Now I think of all these poor women who lost their lives when I go there. It’s heartbreaking. I will never forget them or their poor grieving families.
This is the best video on this case. Above ABC, CBS & NBC! Well done!
37:14 same here, I lost my cousin to murder in 2005 and she never got justice because she was a heroin addicted sw. RIP Maureen Stryken. RIP Shannon Gilbert.
what an AWESOME JOB they did with this "documentary" news piece!
I really felt for the first two reporters, the male reporter (who actually had to go to the sites where the bodies were found), and the lady/news anchor.
I'm most certain that it will be with them into their old age 🙏
Those officials who actively prevented investigations should be charged with obstruction of justice. What despicable people
This is the best documentary I have seen. An amazing with all the people involved working together for 14 years to cath a serial killer. GREAT WORK.
Absolutely, the best documentary on Gilgo I have ever seen...And I've seen just about all of them on here...
Then you’ve not watched many!
@@dudemorris7769Which one did u like better?
Amazing doc! Thank you so much and congrats 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you for filling in all the backstory to this case.
Living in Colorado we didn't know the struggle of the families & media pushing to find answers.
I wonder about the corruption & hope its not all connected.
My heart goes out to everyone affected.
We had a case with similarities in how the police responded or lack of response to the disappearance of a young mother who they said was a "call girl". They didn't look for her. It was locals who got together & created search parties. I searched 1 day with search party. But felt uneasy. Years later she was found not far from where I live. It affected the entire community.
I hope all the cases (which feels like they are connected) get solved.
✌️💙💪
This guy Burke shouldn’t have had any position within the police..... but he did....🙀
It's disgusting to watch how the journalists relish these horrible crimes and their excitement to narrate that a serial killer was free to keep killing the poor girls.
Exactly, this black-haired reporter is too "bushy tailed" and smiley, excited as he reports about the horrendous deaths of these young women. Thank you for stating the obvious @reinaegrillos May they all RIP 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Listen to the difference in his voice from when he started til now. He sounds so gleeful that he’s been there for all the murders and so so thrilled about it. It’s hard to even listen to him as he’s relishing over his history of dead girls.
Nervous
Bet you’re the first to buy newspapers and magazines filled with titillating stories like this
His demeanor seems very nervous, not excited about reporting about the horrific deaths of these women.
Professional detactment, what goes on in his mind off camera is for him to know. Judging a book by it's cover is unfair. The female desk reporter has the same tone of voice, and professional detachment. Maybe excited that the murder has been stopped.
Thank you for your tenacity in covering this case. I hope you all know that you are all heroes, and because of your persistent coverage the world is a safer place. With your dedication you have reminded us that , once again we can never be too careful. Many thanks, God bless.
Enjoyed this but would have enjoyed it more without the constant music making me need subtitles!
Shannon was going through something because she needed help that man answered but she walks/runs away. Why didn’t she take refuge there?
Maybe he didn’t invite her to come inside. I suspect he may have been too frightened to let her in given that she was a stranger who was acting hysterically / was potentially on drugs.
How many bodies did they find in the area? This is horrific.
10
About eight there was a mother, a toddler, an Asian man and half a corpse which other parts from were found on Fire Island in 1996
Plus the Gilgo four and Shannon
@ThanaBrunges-mx7ji yes and that women from 90s was seen at rex house scared and there friend left her at his house
A lot of work has gone into this case, investigative wise and media wise. Great work.
EVEN THOUGH it is many years later, I find it very hard more so to watch this video with the news man constantly smiling, just because he was a part of this huge sad story, this is no reason today to smile while he tells the story.
SUFFOLK COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT..WHATAFKNJOKE!!@ a REALLY REALLY BAD ONE!!
So Shannon’s death was just a coincidence? I don’t think so. Didn’t Atty John Ray say her hyoid bone was broken? Well that means strangulation. And her driver is suss.
Yes that bone was broken, the one that breaks if you get strangled or choked. But all these people believe it was natural? After hearing the call, and finding all the other bodies right with her!? I do t understand but I feel corruption is at play here
It can also get broken from a blow to the neck and she was running through thick bush at night. She could have easily banged it on a branch. It sounds to me like she was suffering from psychosis when she was telling someone to get off etc.
No. The autopsy conducted on skeletal remains about a year and a half after she went missing stated that portions of the hyoid bone were missing (greater horns). It could have been animal activity, we are talking a skeleton out in the elements for about 18 months.
@@meganbrain8870 Her remains were found a year and a half later, her body was out in the elements, and there were several other bones missing too. Does not prove she was strangled or had toes chopped off.
We don't know whether that bone was broken, because it was missing.
