The blue is EXTREMELY usefull to me... I work in large events and concerts ETC.. when I get some sort of fail during an event I can litterly RUN down the cable with that in my hand and it will show where I get to the fail really easily.. be it a connector or junction etc etc Great review. Thanks
I know you weren't impressed with the draw during 'just running the flashlight' but isn't there an offset baseline because of passive draw when detecting that could be raising this? The only real ouput change when it detects is in lighting the other LEDs, so maybe (factoring the difference in white and red/blue LEDs) the passive draw is what's raising it, not necessarily inefficient design of the LED driver. I'd really like to see a switch too as the reflection sometimes washes out the detector.
I just ordered the lower end 2AC model, which are about $22.50 AUD on ebay new in packet, but the model in your review is closer to $60-75. Hardly seems worth it for a cheap LED torch and hyper-sensitive blue LED. Some people have suggest that the blue LED could be used to roughly visualise the location of a mains cable through a wall etc.
Get the model below if you want no torch, the white sides all light up as this model is used for dark confined areas. As mine shines from all three white sides.
I like those 4 screens you have in the back, nice to make something artistic... There is another model of that detector, there the tip can enter inside the wall socket.
I've been doing electrical work for 3+ years, and you're the first person to point that out to me.. and you're correct. Just traced out the romex in the wall from the receptacle
As an electrician, I would never trust that toy. I give, the fluke was probably the best choice for the review, but I'm sure the bag of screws would be more useful. Great vid.
hello, im looking after a nice tool that would make an electrician happy, money isn´t important but the it should have a flashlight integrated and should have nearly same size like the fluke lvd2. is this product the right gift for a professional electrician ? or better decide for another product ? please help :)
If you look closely at that Duracell it might actually say Made in China on it! All the OEM Duracells in the USA do so; they have subtly different labelling from the normal retail batteries.
I agree with you. The step-up in voltage on the "secundary side" gives an equal factor of increase in currentdraw on the "primaryside". And even more considering loss in the step-up converter.
It was hard to find a useful review on this product. Fluke makes good stuff, in my opinion there is no finer brand for the price. I agree, the blue is complete wankery, but overall it is a very useful item for household maintenance given the range of voltage. Me "has" an idea. What would happen if I tied it to a 30 ft dow rod and held it up against a high tension power line? Would it be able to detect the current going through it, or would it be too sensitive? Lol. JK, do not try that at home. 40 dollar firecracker. Worse, if the rod is conductive or wet.
You made me do a genuine LOL when you took the band saw to the packaging.
That was a really good, critical review.
You pulled no punches.

I wonder if the dual LEDs are for safety - If one LED fails, the other will still light. Good review!
Just pure excellence. Big wow for natural performance✌

What does it mean when we place it on earthing wire on the socket and it lights up when the socket is on?

The good thing about the white LED always coming on is that there is no way that somebody could think it is on when it is off
cool vid .could you do a tear down on this tester 7.2 Multi-Tester (Model MS-618L).
Yes! Exactly what I was thinking when I saw that blue LED.
Just last week I had a buried wire that this would have been useful to find.
Good review!
The power dissipation is ridiculous on the LVD2!
Like your packaging opening method!! :D
Regards
I suspect the super-sensitive blue LED would be useful for detecting wiring inside walls.

Thanks, Mike - very entertaining. Was that the last review they asked you to do? 'Pure wankery' - love it!
Exactly my thought aswell. Brilliant! More of these guys to do reviews
The table saw to open the package was extremely extra 💀🤣🤣

Wrapper rage Mike ?
blue light would be useful for tracking live wires through walls.

No buzzer ? Really ? No Buzzer ? Why ?!
Oh nice! i got the same type of variac! Mine is a 8A model.
Fingers were getting mighty close to that live probe at one point...
I can never quite understand live and neutral with regards to AC.
can u test to see if this voltstick detects live cables behind plasterboards...
possibly a reason for that wanker of a blue light it has...
Yep, that's exactly what it does. Extremely handy.

ultrasonic welded not laser welded
I like your style. Subscribed.
The white led consumes aproximately 30mA, so it contributes very little to the overall power consumption.

One way to open a clamhell...
I want that t shirt!
I would prefer buying a £3 one from eBay
What a terrible product. Very disappointed in Fluke on this instance...
At least it was free.
Awesome t-shirt!
laughed out load at a bag of screws.
nice Jacobs ladder!
If the circuit is properly wired and you are grounded, the live wire is the one that will kill you if you touch it.
I cringed :(
