He's one of the pioneers, John McLaughlin and Steve Morse are too. Is shred only about pure alternate picking? Because Holdsworth could be considered one of the pioneers too. To me shred is just super fast and technical playing regardless of the technique used whether it's alternate picking, tapping, legato, sweep picking etc. But yeah Al di Meola is one of the godfathers of that.
@@alexfadista yes John McLaughlin for sure another shredder. Al Holdsworth was an incredible Legato player with amazing speed. In my humble opinion that is not shredding. Legato is just a movement of one fretting hand. Shredding requires both hands playing and moving. Picking hand shreds and the other hand frets the notes. Very hard to master up and down with incredible speed. Of course there are people that are naturally talented. They are all amazing players in their own way. Music is subjective.
I’m not arguing about anything. My response was to the OP’s post “That man literally invented shredding.”. Nothing could be further from the truth (although depending on the age of the OP, I realize that a certain younger age group has co-opted the word “literally,” and uses it to mean pretty much anything BUT “literally.”)
Al Di Meola is a wonderful songwriter who happens to play some great guitar. Been listening to you since Romantic Warrior and Land of the Midnight Sun. Thank you for all these decades of dedication Al. Glad you have your health back. Many more years.
Saw him in 78 at a concert hall with a huge band two drum sets, xylophones what a band ...Land of the Midnight Sun tunes, Elegant Gypsy and Casino...what an incredible show! Never forget how incendiary and magnificent his playing was, a tornado of ferocity and technique I've never seen equaled and I've seen nearly everyone of the greatest guitarists.
Thank you for so much incredible music! Truly another level than any other. So glad I was introduced to your music early on. I have listened to so many others with amazing talent, and none compare.
My very favorite web satisfaction, watching our most beloved music stars busy having fun performing and entertain us fans oh yezzzzzz heavenly bliss indeed ❤🎉❤
Playing with fire. I love his tone and that band is so good. I would love to see one of his shows on this tour. Al if you read this please tell Elias Danny and Donna Combs sends their best regards to him. He’s a wonderful gentleman and musician.
Bought your Mediterranean Sundance nearly 1/2 a century ago in my late teens when it first came out. Saw you 20 yrs ago live . i have gone grey and you still look the same
Saw him in 1981 cape cod coliseum with samtana really great show but hot as hell in that building lol. I looked like i jumped in a pool but it was sweat haha . General admission on the floor so it was hot up near the stage wow.
This is the roughest playing I’ve ever heard from Al, I have seen him live about 10 times over the years, I hope he’s ok seems like after that cardiac episode Al isn’t quite himself.
I clicked here to give a fresh listen because I've always struggled to understand, to 'get' his music. And, sorry, nope, I still don't. I'm not trying to start a debate or a fight with anyone, I'm not saying I'm right and those who like him are wrong -- I'll even graciously accept the problem is me and not him. But, sorry, I don't get it.
That’s alright because everyone has different tastes. You may prefer John McLaughlin, George Benson whomever it may be find what you prefer and enjoy it.
Hi Al, Can you tell everyone how long your Black Les Pauk sat in the closet before you took it out to use it again? Thanks. I've been a fan for many years.
I never would dis Earl . I always mention what a great player and guy he is. I just indicated he was more an accomplished acoustic player then ever being known to play electric guitar!

Currently, only family members are allowed to visit him, and the office commented, "We believe that watching over him in a quiet environment will lead to his earliest possible return to work.
Gosh, and you look 20 years younger than you really are... I owe you several years of tendinitis due to trying to (badly) play Mediterranean Sundance on a Strat, my then only guitar
Al’s guitar is a bit subdued in the mix throughout. Keys are overwhelming at times … percussion at other times. The Les Paul is really too laid back in the mix.
Saw him acoustic a couple of years ago and he opened the show with a stupid political statement. Walked out and have never listened again till this. There is so much great music out there, it is easy to eliminate those who would insult half their audience.
@@davemenard5089 try Kashmir next. I believe she is the most musical guitarist in the world. Her bebop is second to none. She dances from classical to bebop to country. Jeffrey the chainsaw man is another one. She is a world class rock player, too. A genius.
Always listened Al Di Meola since I was a little kid. My dad loves this.
its good to hear al play his electric quitar once again, like in the old days of return to forever, my favorite...
No one else like Al. Incredible musician and technician
great stuff, Mr Di Meola! it reminds me of your magnificent 'Tour De Force' you released in 1982....one of my fav guitar albums ever! 🤘❤
Glad to see you healthier.
Al being Al! Excellent! So glad to see him in full form!👏👏👏
I was very blessed to see Al with Return to Forever in 1982! What a PHENOMENAL CONCERT!!!
Just saw Al live this past Friday. Excellent musician and band, just wow. Glad to see Al healthy and back better than ever.
Al is my all Time , Favorite. I've been with him since 79'
Al you are the greatest!
The man that literally invented Shredding. The King of Shred. No legato, pure picking and shred. My hero .
“literally invented shredding”? uh…no…not by 1/2

one of my alltime favorites......that tone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going to see him this Friday May 10 at the Keswick in Glenside PA
Awesome to hear this live !
The best song!! The way this song builds. Some of his finest writing imo

Al is one of the few Guitarists, who could compete with Carlos Santana. Did they ever play a Duet together ? Must evaluate that.
Al will always be a part of American great guitar players !
Always a pleasure
I cut my teeth on guitar trying to learn your early albums. Much love to you and best wishes for you and yours.🎸
Yep. Me too. Had the black beauty Paul complete with DiMazios.

Master mentor humble. Thanks Al.
The king of electric jazz guitar and eclectic acoustic jazz.
Rock on Maestro! Watched you live years ago in Hollywood CA….sooooo good! So smooth,,,,Awesome! Thank you!
I saw Al with the RTF Reunion in S.F. Fantastic. Mingo Lewis on percussion joined them on stage, epic.
This is my favorite Horace Silver album. The African Queen is so beautiful. Pretty Eyes too !!!
back to the good old days I love it
Great Song From A Great Artist! I Hope All Is Well With You Al & Your Family! Peace & Love! WooF!🐶🐶
Al remains the Stellar guitarist he's always been. He's been a trailblazer since he started!

That kicked ass ☕🎸
Looking forward to seeing you at park west ❤
This is awesome..hopefully he is performing in Canada
AL. THE GREAT TEACHER

1. Rhythm, 2. Melody. 3. Virtuosity in small doses. Most other music tends to lack in one of more of these areas, unfortunately.
It's music. It speaks to you, or it doesn't.
I agree. I will second your opinion. I don't get it.
I'm not really fond of this, but Land of the Midnight Sun is amazing and much more melodic
Sounds like Santana ! if you have been listening for a long long time.
Hi Al, Can you tell everyone how long your Black Les Pauk sat in the closet before you took it out to use it again? Thanks. I've been a fan for many years.
There’s none sound like that 🤌☀️🤗🌞❤️ Meola signature
He's so lyrical and melodic, far from what 99% of "shredders" do. Steve Vai and Joe Satriani are his musical children.
👍
Que vuelva por estos lados...Chile...
I actually detected a few consecutive 'up' strokes in his right hand technique. Is Al finally loosening up? HA!
Al doing a great Santana impression,....... on a Les Paul...
So,…you think, purely as a guitarist,Carlos operates on the same level as Al?;not denigrating Carlos, just curious
I watched your Rick Beato interview and it sounded like you dis'd Earl Klugh because you wanted the Chick Corea gig?

@@OfficialAlDiMeola Cool. I'm 5 yrs younger than you and grew up musically counting you as one of my top 4 guitar influences.

😎⚡🌞🌈✨💗
help Kazumi Watanabe fell down😭
Yeah, hopefully he recovers well. Haven't heard anything about it in the past month or so. Kazumi is one of the best.

Agree with someone's opinion or not I didn't pay to hear it! Play your music 🎶
DIMEOLA IS GOD
….of guitar
Not even guitar.
Why are you doing this ?….put the Paula in a corner of you’re living room and enjoy it….
He looks a little like a certain manager of a certain Premier League football club,or should l say an out going manager?...dare l say Liverpool F.C🤔
After 3 minutes hearing its for me only boring !
It is called building up to a climax. You are supposed to have more than a 2 minute attention span to listen to this, it is not for ADHD kids.
As good as Al is he's kind of boring to listen too...Yawn
Boring. Check out Tory Slusher. Much more musical.
She’s pretty good
