I disagree and here’s why: Technically it is known as Operation Anvil but to state that that’s it’s more known name is simply incorrect. Operation Anvil was only named as such for it was to be carried out alongside Operation Sledgehammer (now known as Operation Overlord) but due to a lack of available resources it was called off. Whens’t the allies saw that they didn’t have sufficient resources to supply the allies due to the ports in Normandy being clogged up they decided to reconsider on Anvil and then finally went through with it. Two Weeks prior to its execution they decided to rename it to Operation Dragoon as it really doesn’t make sense anymore as it no longer coincided with Sledgehammer. So not only was it not known as Anvil during its execution it also has been called Dragoon for much more time.
Which may point to one of the reasons why the British and French troops to hold out as long as they did in 1940. If the Allies avoided the region, it must have defensible terrain. Which then suggests there were valid reasons for the halt order in 1940 as well.

Almost everyone in the US has ancestors that fought in WW2. More than half of all males aged 18 to 30 served in uniform. There's nothing unusual about having a relative that served on the Western Front. There are tend of millions of americans that can lay claim to that today.
I think this helped me to understand why the allies thought that Market Garden would be a success, from this perspective it does look like the western front is completely broken and that it would have led to a significant shortening of the war.
To be fair, I think Market Garden did have a real possibility of success. It just happened to be that everything that could have possible gone wrong went wrong. It’s impressive how close they got to crossing the Rhine considering how many factors had been tipped in the German’s favour.

He once told me he used to go to bed and watch the coast of Normandy, only 14 miles away, glow in a fiery blaze on the horizon and go to sleep with the soft sound of artillery in the distance. Jersey and our sister island of Guernsey were occupied during the fall of France in 1940 and as you will able to see in this video, the Channel Islands will remain occupied in Nazi German hands until May 1945 whilst surrounded by Allies. nice video! I was looking forward for western front video during the dday invasion!
I was here searching for part two not realizing this video came out today😐
Amazing, just amazing. Thank you for showing the cities. I really do not have anything else to say. Just wow...
Eastory, I've been wondering this for a while, what kind of animation software do you use?
I use Blender.
@@Eastory Thanks for replying. Didn't know Blender could be used for good 2D animation.
Amazing! was waiting for this
Damn, that's a bummer, I sure hope Germany makes a comeback in part 2!
If part 2 takes place 70 years later and you mean an economic comeback, then yes.
That was part 2
Steiner's attack will turn things around!
@@948320z My Fuhrer, Steiner.... Steiner couldn't mobilize enough men. He wasn't able to carry out his own assault
@@tunganhnguyen909 The following men will remain: Keitel, Jodl, Krebs, and Burgdorf.
Thank you step bro I've been waiting since the Estonia 🇪🇪 video
DAMN IM HYPED FOR THIS
Great summary of a complex series of events!
So crazy how quickly the allies put 1 million men in France. Once their heels were in, they weren’t leaving.
That was the only way tho, putting less men would've made them vulnerable to counter offensives, and a strong force was needed to push hard and keep the Germans out of balance/disorganized, limiting the amount of casualties and speeding up the victory in the West
Great video, You speak so clearly it helps me to improve my english
As always, incredible work Eastory!
Still I'm amazed by how many people in the other videos about the eastern front say "OMG 1.1:1 SoViEt HoRdEs!" while on the western front the germans were constantly outnumbered, and especially during the invasion of Germany they were outnumbered 4:1 (a ratio that they never experienced on the eastern front) people don't even blink an eye ahahahahaha
@Jovan Lozanac Hate should be the only feeling people should have when someone mentions communism
@@stanleyyelnats9310 even when talking about Tsar and Imperial Russia? You are also one of those blind ones who can't even distinct between different leftist ideologies, or to justify the murdering of hundreds of thousands of eastern Europeans by the nazis simply because they are "commies"
@@yankeesix1335 The Soviets killed more people than the nazis because they were worse, stalin alone killed 40 million that's 2x more than the camps killed. Ask anyone who experienced communism and they will tell you they hate it.
@@yankeesix1335 Don't comment to me and call me blind when you are just dumb, pick up a book commie.
@@stanleyyelnats9310 ahhhh yes, death tolls of *27 millions plus many other millions* within only *4 years and less of Nazi occupation* by putting innocent people to force labouring, starvation and mass-scale execution by the Nazis, or for Imperial Russia which majority of populations were peasants whose death would not even been calculated that eventually triggered revolutions to overthrow it, are *more appropriate* than the 40 million death toll (and do me a favour, provide source of this number) which took place in the *duration of around 20 years or so* with many of it composed of unintended starvation due to low efficiency of bureaucratic system and weathers conditions in 30s, that’s what you mean isn’t it? Rather than calling me a commie, who is more of a democratic socialist advocator, it seems that you do earn yourself a Nazi title, don’t you feel pround of yourself?
I am here when there are 13k views, anyway doesn't matter no one cares. After seeing the Eastern front you have potential! Animation will become the future! Keep the great work this should be a movie.
