Nike have done very well with the Alphafly 3 and ZoomFly 6 this year. And the Vaporfly 3 isn't terrible by any means. But yeah, their other lines are a bit questionable. They need to decide whether they go true running performance or the lifestyle route with these shoes. Regarding max stack, I think if a brand wants to beat the Asics Superblast 2 they need to use their premium foam and go head to head in a similar simple set up. Don't overthink things! I don't care if it is a copycat so long as it delivers a similar performance, at a similar height, weight and durability and cheaper pricepoint it will grab marketshare. As a fan of Nike, I definitely hear you Ed. Prior to this line up adjustments I think I’m with most that we still really like their top racers, but everything else was a bit of a mess…. Except I’ll count myself in the Invincible camp as I have many pairs of 1,2 &3 (quite enjoy the 3 actually). Was seeing the Fly series as the other trio. Absolutely love the ZF6 and the VF and AF are top tier racers. Just wonder what that may mean for plans of the Streakfly 2? It’s another one that I enjoy, but 5 more mm of foam would be exceptional! 👟 🔥
I liked the invincible. Always worked well. The v1 was super soft and they should have worked with the no strobel so the insole was directly on top the foam. The v2 and 3 went away from that and it became a bit firmer.

Great vid! 1) Re Nike, organizing their lineup makes some sense, “stability line” and “racing line (including Zoom Fly 6),” I can understand. But what’s the point of the Peg and Vomero categories? Peg is daily and Vomero is stack/recovery? Seems like a lot of overlap. 2) Re max stacks, all I can say is Peg Turbo at, what 28mm rear and 18mm forefoot, was plenty of cushion for me at 175-185lbs, plenty of bounce, plenty of protection for my sometimes problematic knees. So just my pov, I don’t understand the need. Plus, research shows the average runner does 3-4 runs per week, 3-5 miles per run - does that warrant such deep stacks of foam? I watched your Adios 9 vid, my first thought was wondering if they could be similar to my beloved Peg Turbos as a daily trainer.
I think the Zoom Fly 6 is the evolution we wanted from the original Pegasus (35) Turbo which we all hoped was a gap the Streak Fly might have filled. I think the reason the Zoom Fly is not mentioned is that it doesn’t fit into any other range. As you alluded to, a plated shoe with no air pod makes its pretty unique in terms of tech for a Nike shoe. It could easily be an Alphafly training partner but from a tech perspective the lack of airpod would not be good marketing, even with AKs seal of approval. For what is potentially one of the best shoes Mike has produced in years, it’s not a great look that it not an ‘air’ product so you wonder whether they are almost sweeping it under the carpet to prevent a longer term detriment to the brand

I think those are some great shouts… I’d never really thought about Adidas, and took a punt on the Adios 9 as it sounded like it would appeal to me and I’m so impressed with the build quality, the design, the upper, and I love running in them. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Pro 4.
I agree, cushion for the sake of cushion doesn't work. Most of these uber-cushioned shoes really has one gear (recovery/easy) and I don't think they deserve premium prices as a result. Prime X Strung OG and SuperBlast 2 are the only ones I can justify extra cost. Other than those, I use older racing shoes for my longer runs: mostly lighter, more versatile and cushion for a reason.
The Vaporfly3 and Alphafly3 are my go-to racers along with the Sky-Paris. I confess some surprise that you didnt touch on the Paris shoes which are great for racing and feel closer to the ground. I might try the Adidas racing shoes in 2025, but in 2024 the Adidas racing shoes (short of the 500$ model) didnt strike me as as balanced (esp for corners) or as providing more pop than the Nike racers.
A shoe adjacent prediction is that races will become more difficult to get in to. Entries will sell out faster and those with good for age times will be squeezed even more 🔮 Merry Christmas Edd! I hope you enjoy your one legged turkey 🦃🎄🎅
Thanks for the interesting and entertaining content! The shoe world is on fire, so many great shoes. Literally something for everyone I’d say. My take on Nike is biased because I wish they’d “just do product” and leave all of the social posturing be. Not everyone agrees with me and that’s cool. The brand began as a running shoe venture out of Oregon, with lady Bowerman’s waffle iron. They were sold at track races out of car trunks, or boots as you’d say. I wish they’d get back to their roots a bit more. In the meantime I have ASICS and Adidas and Puma to keep me busy! Merry Christmas Edd!
After loving rebel v4 so much, it got me interested in this for longer runs BUT as its priced so high - not much difference between this and sc elite, so don't really see the point of buying "inferior" training midsole instead of full peba, especially as elite is reported to be more friendly option to slower runners ....

Adidas have invested a lot of money in signing quality athletes as have Nike and to a lesser extent Asics and On. Who has the current Mens and Womens World records and what brand shoes were they wearing? Nike Alphafly 3. That doesn't necessarily mean it is the fastest shoe out there? Is it the athlete, the shoes or something else that gets them this record time? And just because it works for an elite does it work for the non elite runner? Happy New Year Edd! Merry Christmas everyone! My thoughts on Nike- I'll be surprised if they don't create the top tier FLY Range introduced with a new VF or AF. The other tiers will consist of the worlds biggest variety of daily trainers 😅. As well, I see in the not too distant future shoes with removable plates. When the foams goes, you remove the plate, when you're doing a recovery run, you remove the plate.
Difficult to predict indeed. I thought Saucony were on to a winner with the endorphin elite - didn’t imagine them changing it a great deal - bosh! Turned it into the squishiest shoe ever.

Where in Nike’s new layout is the Alphafly Vaporfly and ZoomFly? To me these are their top running shoes but they are not mentioned in the new layout. Maybe I’m being too harsh but I don’t remember seeing any Pegasus or Vomeros atop any race podiums. I guess they decided to push the cash cows. Well we can always find those cows in the discount bins soon enough. And yes major kudos to Nike for the ZoomFly 6. I bought 3 pairs. Awesome shoe! I have the Adidas EVO SL and the Adidas Pro4. Both are excellent. Great job Adidas. I have high expectations for 2025 from Saucony and Mizuno as well. Hoka is really stepping up their game too. 2025 is going to be another great year for running shoes.

Unrelated to the video, I ran today in the Clifton 9 for the first time in a while and that shoe just works for me.
I find it interesting that other brands haven’t copied the superblast. Such a great shoe and like you said fairly simple design.

The Adios Pro 4 is pretty close to the EVO in terms of design other than the upper at a lower price point.

I think the issue has been with Nike not really taking the time on the daily shoes and they have fallen behind due to this.
