It's great to see you cautioning people about what you're doing. I have a kayak fishing channel and my BIGGEST priority in every winter vid where there is potential of ending up in the water is to remind everyone not to do what I do without the proper gear and skill set. Nice work, Cheebs!
Bring another two heat patches with you and leave them inside the socks you'll be wearing in the morning with those socks inside your boots and have them turned upside down for the night. Toasty books feel sweet first thing in the morning. 🔥🔥🔥
Me, before clicking the video: Is this the bear spray trip? Cheebs: So there was an unfortunate incident Me: Nooooo it issss I’m glad you’re okay Cheebs! I don’t know if I could have gone out there with how cold it looks alone, not to mention being sick, the bear spray AND the cold. Love how despite it all you pushed through and taught/showed us all these super informative things! ❤
Beautiful little trip you had there. I'm hoping I can work up the courage and equipment to go out solo winter camping sometime in the next couple of years. I've only really been in the mountains for about 3 months, but it feels like I have so much more to do. Do you have recommended winter tents and boots for areas that can have a few feet of snow?
I have the same tent and am curious how it would hold up in winter camping. Seems like maybe you didn't have all the guylines staked out because I've never had mine blow around that much and I've been in some serious wind. Did you get a lot of snow blowing in under the fly and through the mesh?
So excited to see that you posted a new video! You mentioned that your studies in grad school. What are you doing now for work if you're not doing what you studied? Im just about to finish up my last year of undergrad in environmental sciences. I have pondered the idea of applying to grad school doing something with conservation work. I just was wondering if it is worth it and if you were able to find a job related to your studies or what your doing now?
Hey! Love watching your adventures and short camping trips 💚 I'm curious is you used a GoPro or your phone to film this video? And do you use a mic? This is what I'm hoping to document on my next backpacking trip, thanks!
The channel name needs a name change to like Cooking Chicken with Cheebs or Cheebs Cooking Chicken while she camps. She didn't bring a can of canned chicken this time. Oh damn! I killed a stink bug tonight. Don't be angry? The snow looked amazing! Looked like a late spring, early Fall storm containing a lot of water content like we get here in New England. It sticks to everything and looks great while it lasts.
As an avid backcountry hiker myself, I really appreciate you taking the time to share tips for new people on tips to stay safe. It’s very important people don’t just run off thinking I’m ok with a day pack. Always enjoy your adventures. Stay safe out there
I enjoy camping and hiking in nature. I love the fresh clean air and tranquility of it all. The only thing I don't like is the parking lot. It's always full of cars. Everyone wants to do the same thing I want to do on the same day as me.
I've been cold weather camping for over 40 years and discovered how good those heat pads are a couple of years ago when my son bought some. I keep a dozen in the car too now in case we ever get stranded by the weather overnight. Great video, subscribed!
I love day hiking but have never done a overnight backpack. Overnight camping in winter would be fun but scary. Just discovered your channel a few weeks ago. I am enjoying it. It is only 5 degrees and snowing hard here in Eastern Oregon right now as I am watching this.
Just found you😊. My husband and I are training for our first backpacking trip to Point Reye in California. We are seniors, so it should be challenging for us. I appreciate your expertise, which will be helpful to us. Thank you, and please stay safe.
Wishing you good luck and an amazing trip! You mentioned you are seniors, I can only hope I have as much ambition and eagerness to make such an endeavor as I age, so truly good on you!!! Again have the best time, enjoy the views, and stay safe!!!
It would be cheaper and healthier probably to just buy some canned chicken and a pack of rice that you cook in hot water. Just add the chicken. The mountain house kind of sucks in my opinion and does not give you much energy. For me it was like eating flavored cardboard paper lol. Expensive cardboard hehe. If it works for you that's all that matters but a real cooked meal is always better than those mountain houses. I quit buying them because it did not give me the energy i needed. Thanks
I enjoyed watching your video! You looked really happy during the whole experience! Nature has always been my go to place. Never solo camping in the cold. Feel like I don't have the right gear. It would help if I went out and bought some of the right stuff.
Great video, very informative and accurate because you clearly have experience, keep up the good work! I would also put your gear in the descriptions, for the gear heads among us(was wondering about the tent😊) .
Love your channel, content, and direction and advice for backpackers and hikers alike. Please continue to make this content. We all support you!!!!! Love it when you share what you're actually using and lists. Actually purchased many items from you list!! Also what tent is that?
Looks like you don't bother reading or replying to any "comments/replies" & for this reason I've just Unsubscribed & removed what I'd said. I've just discovered your channel. I "Like", Subscribed, & rang the notification bell.
Great video! Plus the view - wow. Q1: Do you put your wet gloves, pants, etc. in a bag in your sleeping bag so they don’t freeze? Q2: the hand warmers in your down booties don’t burn your toes/feet? I’ve done two backpacking trips and lots of hiking - lowest temp was about 35 deg. So new to backpacking. 😊 Thanks.
Incredible views. Love the commentary and advice. Great pacing and editing! It is wonderful seeing a fellow solo adventurer out there inspiring others. Happy adventuring!
Hi Cheebs, I started camping in my backyard of mountains. How do you deal with wildlife? (We have wolves here but not bears. Oh and very poisonous snakes.)
Aren't you afraid of running into a sasquatch? I liked to go hiking and camping when I was younger, never even thought about a bigfoot. That's all I hear and read about now, it sure has kept me out of the woods.....I like your podcasts.....
So jealous! Winter forgot to show up in southern Ontario (Canada) this year! Backcountry camping this year is just an exercise in muck and slush. (aka no fun)
I swore you looked familiar but couldn't place it until I saw the twitch link. It's chillbo! Used to watch your twitch years ago. I haven't been on twitch in forever but now I guess I'm following along on the hikes.
Oof. I felt that comment about "it was a passion". Yes, I went to school and wrote papers in gravitational wave astrophysics, but please don't ask me about it. 😅
Since you do all theese camping trips why dont you just buy a proper sleepingbag with a comfortrating for women at -30 F since that would do for most of your trips?
Those views were magnificent and I'm super jealous. I'm guessing this isn't possible when the wind/rain pick up unless you have a stronger tent and some more shelter?
I just had to bail on a cold camping outing, realized after setting up camp that I forgot my down sleeping bag! I had driven through a pretty intense snow storm to get to my spot, where it was "warmer" at about 30 degrees. I did have a basic coleman bag that I was going to put under my cot for insulation, found some space blankets in my camping bin and tried to make it work lol Woke up in the middle of the night starting to get concerned about my feet, I really need some of those booties and to always carry hand warmers lol, with those I think I would've been ok Didn't think to heat up my stainless bottle but that also works well to put boiling water in them and then between legs
A good tip to keep warm is to get all of your camp setup done in your hiking clothes. Then change into dry layers when you are ready to cook, eat and go to bed.
I haven't done it that often but I've camped in cold conditions and an unheated and insufficiently insulated tent enough times to know that I never want to do it again until it's an emergency or I otherwise have no choice like getting caught out in far colder weather than was forecast. It's certainly possible to stay warm inside your tent and sleeping bag, but it's just not fun, and while not a glamper I do like to be reasonably comfortable when camping after everything's set up. I'd much rather either hot tent camp, which I've actually never done but would like to, or use an insulated tent that gets the temperature inside the tent warm enough that it's not actually painful. There is an obvious appeal to camping in the snow and winter but not at the expense of core comfort, for me at least. And, of course, not at the expense of health and safety. That said, these are all good tips if you find yourself forced to cold weather camp.
That was fantastic! Thanks, I was filled with both admiration and inspiration. 😊 I can't wait until there's enough snow here to go snowshoeing, not that i have any illusions about camping, but you make enjoying winter look far less painful, some might say easy even. Thanks again, brilliant video.
Best thing I learned during my years in the army is putting all the gear I'd be wearing in morning inside my sleeping bag with me. Putting on cold gear was the biggest moral loss. Socks, boots, and pants all in the bag with me. Id always have small towel with me to wipe my boots down.
Lol I just watched a video of Erik Hanson. He went somewhere in colorado and said it was getting somewhere to 0 degrees. Its just funny to see how she acts around 30 degrees
For 13 minutes and 39 seconds I was thinking I MIGHT know where this was, then I finally saw the pipe! Haha. Very nice. I've wanted to camp there as well. Nice work!
I'm told that the winter gas is actually not a big difference on the gas, but rather the bottle. So once you've emptied it you can fill it from another bottle and get the same thing.
Oh no! That is too bad about the bear spray. Really good tip trailblazing. Too many folks don't know have basic compass or navigation skills. I love a good day hike & cook, but I can see the benefits of bringing a freeze dried meal for a cold overnight. As a matter of fact, now that I think about it, I brought a beef stroganoff meal at Ponca State Park last year. Really good tips on how to stay warm without a fire. 100% agree with you on proper gear. Great job and thanks for sharing!
Hell yeah! That's what it's all about. Glad you popped up on my feed! I can safely say that I learned more about the pentatomidae family than I have from any other RUclips video. If you ever happen to find yourself in Vermont, let's collab!
2:00 I've literally always wanted to know the weight cause I was curious, but this makes me want to try the incline machine with 32 lbs to see what it's like
Engaging content :) I especially like that you brave it right out in the open. Gets cold! I do mostly solo, also. It's a lot of fun, but I know for a woman, it takes even more courage. Camping in the cold is the name of the game, lately. There are heavy fire restrictions where I do a lot of my winter camping, so it's all about the clothing and....contained fires....sometimes. Just spent the night in 25 degree snowfall and a hammock. It was so nice to hear nothing but the snow.
Hi Cheebs here is a tip for you get a buddy heart the one that heat the air I have one it heat the hole tent you need is carbon monoxide detector and well ventilation 😊

Another great video, Cheebs! I have been enjoying spending my time with you. Thanks for sharing your Dash!!! - Davey.
So many useful tips! And really helpful to see camping trips don’t have to include super long enduring hikes, thanks!

Love your upbeat personality!
I appreciate people with good energy... strong girl 👏👍🤗 solo is the best
Me, before clicking the video: Is this the bear spray trip?

Great video. Just a tip I use, you can pour hot water directly into the oatmeal packet and eat out of there. No cleanup

Just a random comment to make the algorithm happy (and the creator).

Hi Cheebs, I started camping in my backyard of mountains. How do you deal with wildlife? (We have wolves here but not bears. Oh and very poisonous snakes.)
AVOID FROZEN FUEL: I put a can sleeve over the fuel and place upside down in pack.
AVOID FROZEN SHOES: I put a hand warmer in each boot and put the boots IN the tent atop a plastic bag to not have a muddy tent.
You keep your shoes inside the sleeping bag, so you don't have to put on frozen shoes.
Youre such a Good Vibe ❤😊👌

A good tip to keep warm is to get all of your camp setup done in your hiking clothes. Then change into dry layers when you are ready to cook, eat and go to bed.
Experts don't change base layers.

I wonder why the honey bee population is declining here in New England.? California is getting some snow.
Poor cheebs! Lol you may want to put your clothes in your sleeping bag to avoid putting them on cold the following morning 😂
Lol I just watched a video of Erik Hanson. He went somewhere in colorado and said it was getting somewhere to 0 degrees. Its just funny to see how she acts around 30 degrees

Where is this?
My question as well. Cheebs used to live in Colorado, but where is this??@@betsyclarke185
Beautiful country! But are there any bears out that time of year? Here in Scandinavia brown bears ar fast asleep in hibernation during winter.
What’s the pipeline behind you at you’re base camp at brekkie time 😮
I used to run a sporting goods department (Walmart) and I tried all the backpacking meals, Chicken and Dumplings was one of the good ones :)
Glad someone else realizes handwarmers on major arteries helps warm blood flow, don't think I've ever known anyone else who realized this lol
Cheebs, I watch a ton of camping and wilderness RUclips videos. You have a wonderful mix of charm, wisdom, and great energy. Brava!
I'm told that the winter gas is actually not a big difference on the gas, but rather the bottle. So once you've emptied it you can fill it from another bottle and get the same thing.

Ski and snowboard season for many people this time of year too. I like to go camping and hiking in the winter. Different hobbies for different folks.
I love that we get to go on adventures with you. So much fun. Thank you for sharing.
First-time viewer here. So do you carry a personal locator device for emergencies?
I always go a couple boxing rounds with bigfoot before bed to get the cool aid pumping
Try some clove tea for your sore throat.
And the bear spray thing not good it can attract bear's the wash whatever you got bear spray on real good.
Love these chill videos 😌
Does this creator remind anyone else of Chillbo? They’re eerily similar
good luck and be great and don't admit your mistakes.
