    It’s funny because these are the carnivorous plants that I see the least online. Everyone is always covering venus fly traps and pitcher plants, but these guys rarely get love.

    • @rotciv557
      @rotciv557 8 месяцев назад +3

      It kinda makes sense, pitchers are literal acid pits and flytraps are basically iron maidens for flies, sundews however are just sticky leaves that veeeeery slowly fold in on themselves. The other two are more immediately distinct on what they are at a glance.

    • @mnsv1720
      @mnsv1720 6 месяцев назад

      Does sundew can catch 2 insects at once?

    • @rotciv557
      @rotciv557 6 месяцев назад

      @@mnsv1720 i mean, theoretically, yeah? Not much of a chance of it.
      Plus, sundews have a bunch of leaves, so it makes sense that few flies would be attracted to the same leaf at the same time

    • @chitlitlah
      @chitlitlah 3 месяца назад +1

      Yet with these guys it's easier to see what's happening the whole time. I had Venus fly traps when I was a kid and once they close, all you can do is shine a flashlight through the leaf to see the silhouette of the victim. With pitcher plants, I imagine you might be able to peek inside and see a drowned insect. With sundews, it's right there in the open from start to finish.

    • @rotciv557
      @rotciv557 3 месяца назад

      @chitlitlah the mystery of not being able to see what's happening to whatever's inside adds to the horror though. Plus sundews are real slow at what they do, you'd have to continuously observe them for a long ass time to really tell what is happening to the insect

    They're more common because they're more efficient. Venus fly traps not only close emoty frequently.
    But if they half close on prey, they tend to die. They require a almost perfect seal to avoid mold.
    Pitcher plants are also more efficient than venus fly traps. But they're reliant on rain water. And can't trap all the time. They're also quite picky in living conditions.

    75% Catch effective rate
    - (Sticky Situation)
    50% Kill Rate
    - (Some other animal may steal their prey while digesting unlike pitcher and venus flytrap with their own mouth container securing their food)
